PixlBit's Mass Effect 3 Review

PixlBit | Five years ago BioWare released Mass Effect to the world. The first game in an epic RPG trilogy with the ambitious goal of having your character’s actions and accompanying consequences carry over from game to game; creating an ever more complex and living world quite literally shaped by the player. As a result, Mass Effect 3 is forced to undergo scrutiny for not only how it handles as a standalone game, but as a conclusion to BioWare’s half-decade efforts as well.

The more time I spend away from the game, the more I realize how fantastic it really is. seriously, I feel the triumphs of this game are getting dwarfed over 10 minutes. By the popular logic out there, a garbage game can have a good ending and be considered great, and that is just BS.

i tried telling people the same thing. everyone is making a huge deal over the ending but failing to realize that for 30+hrs the game is simply stunning.

having said that, the whole thing was stunning for me, i personally loved the ending but to each his own.

I do understand people's complaints though, however I think Bioware did this deliberately. The ending is purposely vague and open-ended, much like Alan Wake. bioware's intention was to get people talking and interpreting, and from what I've seen, the accomplished that. I think some of the more volatile anit-ending ME3 fans, should do a little more interpenetrating, before completely condemning everything.

It's funny people get mad at Ebert for games can't be considered art. The current reaction is why.

The ending isn't communicated as well as it could be, but over I think it wasn't awful enough to ruin a game.

SPOILERS*****

I agree with an interpretation out there that believes the end was vague and jumpy, because Buzz Aldrin (stargazer) is struggling to remember it because it was so long ago

thats actually an interesting interpretation. and i also agree, i actually like the ending a bit more for the mystery it leaves. to me it concluded enough to be satisfactory while leaving other aspects a mystery, which will keep me thinking about it long after. these mysteries could also potentially be revealed in later games, dlc, or codex entries in other games.

i personally came to the conclusion that the reason for lack of closure on the other crew mates was becuase either....
1. they landed on a different planet so nobody knows
2. only their interactions with shepard were recorded in the history books, this makes a lot of sense since shep is the driving force behind everything and it was "his" story. not many people would tell you a story about somebody then go into details about the people who surrounded him, that wouldnt make sense

also everyone assumes shep is dead but you ever actaulyl see a body and once again the kid ask the stargazer to tell him another story about shepard and the guy says "maybe one more". that could go either way but typically if your going to tell stories about somebody from history, you dont start with how they died, you start with how they became famous. this leads me to believe shep is still alive....

anyway i have many more theories and thats what i loved about the end, there were so many different interpretations that could be had and still it was conclusive enough. flippin brilliant imo

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast534d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman534d ago

He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
