Future Mass Effect games will take place "before or during" Mass Effect 3

TVGB: "BioWare hasn't hidden the fact that there will be more Mass Effect games in our future. They've outright said that there will, in fact. However, the studio hasn't even hinted as to what the games could be about or when they'll take place. Until now."

Hmm.. I'm wondering what happens to the civilization and at what time happens after the end conversation...

Erh... Mass Effect MMO if they do to take what part in the timeline?

Pintheshadows5176d ago

I think a Mass Effect mmo would be a bad idea. It wouldn't have the same personal touch as the trilogy.

This article to me says that not even Bioware know what is going on with Mass Effect 3s ending if they can't envisage a game set afterward.

VileAndVicious5176d ago

I think a ME MMO would be awesome personally. And I have a very strong feeling that the next game in the ME universe will be and MMO based on the company pushing so hard to add some sort of multiplayer aspect to ME (first with ME3s multiplayer and the cancelled ME FPS)

*Potential spoilers!*

Well given the fact that the galactic threat was thwarted (regardless of what endgame choice you make), and that the Mass Effect relays were destroyed, there isn't much more they could show after the trilogy.

And chances are, the galaxy is going to go with the whole "peace" idea after fighting how they did at the endgame of Mass Effect 3. So unless you want to play one of the "school life" Japanese games, you won't be getting much shooting out of a post-Mass Effect 3 game.

Unless you go with the idea of Commander Shepard somehow deciding to unite the Galaxy again or something, and he uses his control of the Reapers to somehow make that possible. But again, all that will do is make the galaxy connected. I still doubt there will be any (maybe minor stuff C-Sec has to deal with) massive amounts of violence going on. Unless you need to resolve something between the Salarians and Krogan. Since that was sort of hinted at.

I think Bioware ended it very well. They basically said, "Hey guys, life isn't all flowers and buttercups. Sometimes the only way to make sure everyone gets the best is by sacrificing all the luxury you came to love", etc. It's a very meaningful and heroic ending.

at least we know they wont end well

First contact war would be a great setting IMO, and would be nice to have some story on that fleshed out. Mass Effect 1 really captured an amazingly tense atmosphere between humans, and the rest of the galaxy which was progressively lost as the series moved forward.

It would be nice to see that tension recaptured.

I'm opposed to MMOs period. As for what happens to the timeline, Bioware can't keep their damned lore straight inside a single game, let alone across multiple titles, so I wouldn't hold my breath. The fact that they don't want to continue the timeline speaks volumes for their lack of imagination, ambition and ability.

The only game I'd tolerate not set after ME3 would be something with RTS elements, either a full-on RTS game (similar to the Halo Wars spin-off) or DLC with RTS-elements (think Infinite Space). It really bugged me that the whole Reaper War amounted to building an "I Win Button," and all of the combat involved a handful of infantry. Would have been cool to implement ship-to-ship combat, especially since the core plot of the second game revolved around upgrading the Normandy to fight Reapers.

Regarding what happens after the ending, well, the same thing that happens after most destructive wars: reconstruction. It'd probably take a long time in ME's case, as (as far as I know) only the Asari know how to build Mass Relays, though it's possible that information was "ceded" on other worlds by Liara. Given how slow conventional FTL is, it would likely take decades, if not centuries, to rebuild the relay network.

On the other hand, keep in mind that in ME, less than 1% of the galaxy is explored--that's a lot of open space. Without relying on relays, each civilization will be forced to start working on (real) deep space exploration. With so many colonies isolated from their homeworlds, it's likely that new, smaller governments would form, maybe some with multiple species (like a "Federation." Or a "Galactic Alliance.")

There's a lot of potential with that kind of set-up. A lot.

Not that i want a ME MMO but i can see it happen with pressure from EA.. or maybe they learned with SWTOR?... Anyhow hope they give us a FULL wall of text to explain the ending

Me and a classmate kept talking about the ending of ME3 the entire week

VileAndVicious5176d ago

Whats wrong with SWTOR?? EndGame hasnt been a focus for sure, but its still a damn good MMO.

--Onilink--5176d ago (Edited 5176d ago )

well it kinda hard to imagine a game after ME3 with all the relays gone... a ME MMO, where you can visit the incredible amount of... 2 PLANETS!!! yay...

MrGunny945176d ago

SWTOR still needs to grow it misses some key elements.. especially in terms of performance

GTX 580's SLI
i7 Hexcore
12gb RAM

And i got 12 FPS in Warzones... The fault is their crappy engine the "Hero Engine" that can't handle more then 4v4 fights

Romudeth5176d ago

I thought anything with the word "blog" in it's title wasn't allowed on N4G. Have the rules changed?

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio18d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing18d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
