PSN is designed differently. Not enough people buy games on that platform anyways so any "one" dev's servers will never be overwhelmed due to poor game sales and non unified stats etc. lol PSN isn't even half the service lowl(doesn't have half the advanced features and services or fanbase for that matter(you get what you pay for indeed).

If PSN was down, that Sony blog would be in meltdown but still it wouldn't this amount of bad publicity because its Sony first network infrastructure, they know they can't get it right first time round so thats why its free, and because of that, not many people will expect to have a perfect server. However, Live - you're paying money to have the service. In the terms and conditions of any service, if the provider is unable to maintain that service for reasons not of the fault of the user then they are deserved of a refund. I'll have to check if Live has similar T&C.

They can't, don't, and WON'T guarantee a flawless service, 24/7/365. Anyone who expects that, is plain ignorant...and obviously not a bill-paying, home-owning adult. I've been a subscriber to LIVE since December 2002, and this is the FIRST TIME such a long period of INTERMITTENT disruption has ever happened. They have been working to fix this, and will do so, but they owe NOBODY more than that. Fact is, this is only a partial disruption of the full service, and hasn't even affected all areas of the world. I've not had a single day since the 23rd, that I couldn't play on LIVE. I HAVE had trouble sending messages, booting the first 3 blades of the dashboad (the only 3 connected to LIVE), and some trouble joining matches on COD4. That's what the MAJORITY of people are experiencing...if anything. Some can't initiate/transfer accounts, but that's because MS has such tasks disabled until it's fixed (DUH!). The thing is, MS likely WILL do something to help save face with this inconvenience...but they don't have to. Besides, how exactly would you expect them to know how much to compensate, and to which individuals? For my part, I've been deprived of about 30% of what's available through LIVE, for approximately 6 full days. At .14/day, that's .84 , x 30%...they owe me a whopping .25 !!!!!! ZOMFG, MS IS RIPPING ME OFF....PAY ME MY QUARTER NOW BILLY GAYTE$ !!!!!

Who have had to send in their 360s for repairs, and never got compensated for the weeks (or even months) spent not using their Xbox Live Gold service. I don't expect Microsoft to do anything about this either.

How about reading a book or something? Take a break; if you complain when there is an error or a crash, it's obvious you need to do something else with your time... maybe get some exercise? Nothing is perfect; if there is an earthquake and you end up scared... do you ask the Earth for compensation? No! You suck it up and wait for a better day! Wrong Led, all of my 360 owning friends are VERY pi$$ed off with the current state of xbox live, whilst my best friend who traded in his 360 for a PS3 gets to rub his hands with glee.

Anyone saying "its only a week" needs to consider that for me and my friends ( and probably many others) the xmas holidays are the only time we can get a reasonable amount of time to play our console due to work/family commitments.

Everything breaks down and nothing is perfect. However, this is a paid service and its been acting up for a week now. I can excuse a day but not for an entire week. Im on vacation this week and hardly got to play cod 4 like i wanted to. Microsoft definitely owes me and other xbox live customers some form of credit or something.

But i gotta say that i agree with the people that wants compensation. Because when you pay for something it should work, and a week for something like XBOX LIVE is a looong time!

I've been on XBL since day 1 from the original xbox an i got the exclusive 5 year founding member gamer pic to show for it, an this is this FIRST time I have experienced something like this. but at this point im not upset because I've had nothing but good times with it for the last 5 years.

an to the people expecting compensation because your paying for it, why do you do when the cable goes down because of a problem with the service, do you get a FREE month of service for that NO!! what about if your buying a car an the car breaks down, do you call up the bank an ask for a free month because the car that your PAYING for just broke down.

the irony is Im at a buddys house and playing his 360, which I dont do very often, too bad I cant connect to live, Im stuck in Halo 3, you know right before you get the troops from the barracks where that stair case is covered with brutes? I thought beating  it on legendary with 2 people was a chore....

I think users have every right to be peeved. I'll qualify that and say it's no cause for apocalyptic outcry. If you're paying for a service and the service stops working, you have a right to appeal to the service provider. It's just business. It would be in MS interests to preserve positive customer relations with a discount/deal/free month, and it would be in gamers' interests to take a deep breath, admit defeat, and play off-line for a bit.

But this will help stop them from thinking about just taking their time. If no one was to complain, any company would just go at their own pace. Every body needs tough love to keep them straight.

I support any paying customer who complains about a problem with the service he is paying for= thats what all consumers SHOULD DO, at the same time, I think after you complain you should be reasonable and ALLOW TIME for it to be fixed, also this is still somewhat isolated, I nor any of my friends had these problems for a week, the ONLY problem I had was that yesterday I couldn't log online in Halo3 for about 2 hrs(tried it every 10 to 15 min) after that everything ran fine as usual, and again, although everybody hates a disruption in service it happens, as for *monetary compensation for a few days of downtime would be very little refund, hopefully micro will give something meaningful just to show they appreciate their customers.

I own all 3 consoles and I didn't even realize Live was messin up. Why? Cuz... well... i sorta been playin the SH!T out of the PS3 lately. Oops.

mine has only really totally messed up for one day...thats about it....it still is being a bit buggy and slow but overall I can still get in my games now....just sometimes will mess up....ah well im sure it will be fixed soon enough....some people have had worse issues so I guess its a case to case basis

$50 and it decides to mess up during the holidays. My friends play my PS3 all day especially COD4 and UT3. Warhawk is also solid. Online free, priceless.

Live is up and running flawlessly 99% of the time. They do a great job of running an maintaining it. They're doing everything they can and they said they will do something to make it up to the customers. At least give them a chance to give us Live customers something for compensation. Relax people. People need to realize that every service will have problems now and then. Things happen.

It simply AMAZES me as to what BABIES gamers can be sometimes. A service goes down for a little bit, or an exclusive becomes available for all systems, and suddenly people are up in arms, writing petitions, etc.
