Why BioWare shouldn't change Mass Effect 3's ending

The petition calling for a new ending to Mass Effect 3 currently has 37,714 votes. BioWare should ignore every single one of them.

As any work of art, Mass Effect 3 should be discussed, dissected, and critiqued. It doesn't have to be loved. It doesn't even have to be liked. As paying consumers, gamers have the right to be dissatisfied with a game, its content, or its ending. They are free to comment, rant or rave. They are even free to start a petition. But none of this requires BioWare to listen.

Good Point kid ME3 ending is perfect

Deputydon5180d ago

[SPOILERS]

The problem isn't even that the ending is bad, the problem is the lack of choice. In the end, all the choices you've made up to that point were for nothing. The game ends almost the exact same way.

There is a rant about this on youtube, that while i found the guy to be annoying, he actually made very good points, in that the ending makes no sense for numerous reasons. It's also annoying that the final scene after the credits basically says one of two things, either they are going to try and charge us for DLC to get different endings, or they plan to release another trilogy of the Mass Effect games, with a different storyline and a main character still named Shepard.

The reason I think that latter part, is that the kid says, "Tell me another story about the Shepard." And then the old guy says, "It's getting late, but okay. One more story" That allows me to assume that what he told was either a fairy tale, or a real story, and that now he plans to tell another one (hence the next trilogy).

Personally, I would be okay with another trilogy, as long as it ended depending on the choices we made. You know how pointless it was to even make choices in ME3? I mean, at the end of my first play through I couldn't pick the blue/red choices on the very last chance for the Illusive man. So he shot Anderson. In my second playthrough I could make that last choice, so illusive man shot himself, and then Anderson just fell over dead anyways. What was the point? Then the very last decision, picking between the three while in the catalyst. There was no scene that made them different. All three choices end with the warps being destroyed and the Normandy crashing on an unknown planet. It sounds to me like no matter what you do, they wanted some ending that showed that the only people left alive were your crew, and your crew is left to start repopulating the galaxy.

Personally, I liked the ending, but was upset to find out that was the only real ending. It didn't matter that the Geth destroyed the quarians in my save, or that Tali commmited suicide. It was all pointless, though I will say, the game still had some incredibly emotional motions.

Well if the indoctrination theory is correct then the ending doesn't need to change.

Christopher5180d ago (Edited 5180d ago )

If the indoctrination theory is correct, then they're going to sell us real endings as DLC. Sounds worse to me.

I agree they shouldn't change the ending . It is what it is. But, it looks to me that the ending is in place to force us to pay to see more of the ending we were actually hoping to see in the main game.

Holy crap...the bubbles...

Anyway, I agree. It's absolute sh!t to charge for endings but Fallout 3, Prince of Persia, and possibly FF13-2 will or have done that. So it's not impossible.

@ThGoodKyle

Yeah cgoodno is a moderator so he gives himself as many bubbles as he wants.

SeraphimBlade5180d ago

I would seriously lose all respect for Bioware as writers if they changed the ending because of the backlash. However, given the indoctrination theory, it would be easy for them to say "yeah, that theory's right, we were planning to add to the ending." So... damn.

Not going to bother reading the argument , even moreso from a place like Gspot .

It is just the media's modus operandi to take any controversial subject , then take the stance of the publisher , and waste (and make us waste) lots of "ink" upon it

AtomicGerbil5180d ago

You're not missing much, just argues that because they created it they don't have to do jack. Which anyone with half a brain cell would already know.

On topic, from what I've read they've done a p*ss-poor job of wrapping up the story, which in my opinion is a major disservice to the fans, makes me glad I didn't buy day one and waited for user feedback. Lost faith in anything that comes out of EA these days.

I normally dont enter these articles because im on my first playthrough of ME3, but its really getting old all of the complaining about ME3 ending.

It is ridiculous and juvenile, if you didnt like it hey say it had a crappy ending and move on but all this begging Bioware to change a finished and released game is mind boggling. Its one thing to voice you opinion on a unfinished game ( cole and new dante) but whats done is done, if you dont like it? take it on the chin.

I hated the watchmen movie but i dont want them to change anything but if anyone asks me ill say i thought it was crap

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine528d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast528d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman528d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
