Sessler's Soapbox: Mass Effect 3 Wrap Up

G4TV- Adam discusses Mass Effect 3's day-one DLC, its controversial ending, and how well it handled same-sex relationships.

His thought on the fan reaction to the ending made him think of the movie "Misery" was pretty funny XD

banner5184d ago (Edited 5184d ago )

He didnt talk about not being able to load your ME1 and ME 2 shepard, i thought that was really f'd up above all else but i havnt beat the game yet either, so...

And the grain effect, Why take that out? So far it doesnt seem like i can conversate with as many ppl too..

The game seems great so far but for some reason it feels like they took out a lot of little things that made ME what it was that should of stayed..

Im just surprised not many ppl cared much about not being able to tranfer your guy, that was like one of the biggest push ME had and i loved it..

clrlite5184d ago

why am I more disappointed that he spoiled little nell than the new mass effect :D heh eheh heh

Bimkoblerutso5184d ago

I totally agree with him about the ending. Personally, I think it was one of the most unsatisfying endings to a game I've encountered in a long time. But...I don't know how to put it...these kinds of things just CAN'T be dictated by us.

If Bioware caves and gives gamers the ending that they want, then by the very nature of those actions, it ceases to be Mass Effect. Mass Effect is a product of Bioware, whether gamers want to admit it or not. If games are art, then let the artists do their work. You don't look at a painting and tell the artist to change the colors around because you don't like them, do you? No, you just like it or you don't like it.

I mean, I really feel where people are coming from here, honestly. It was a bad ending. It really was. But changing the ending just isn't right.

--Onilink--5184d ago

not really, did Fallout 3 ceased to be fallout 3 because of broken steel?? no it didnt...there are precedents like this where a company recognizes their mistakes and are willing to do something about it, like the one mentioned before, or witcher 2 adding a whole new tutorial area after fans complained about the lack of it, or the game hydrophobia, where the developer released an enhanced version correcting almost every complain.

In the end, its more than just correcting the ending because people "dont like it", its that the current ending makes no sense at all and its absolutely filled with plot holes, canon errors and just plain nonsense

Chuk55184d ago

First of all, Bethesda didn't respond to gamers for a good couple of weeks. People keep using broken steel as precedent, but fail to mention the reaction time of the company. It also didn't come out until around may or june of 2009. DLC packs preceded it.

--Onilink--5184d ago

@chuk5

But it was done right?? its used as a precedent because it happened, a company was willing to change the ending of a game, and in fallout's case, the real ending wasnt even problematic. look at my post below, thats just 2 out of MANY errors in the current ME3 endings that really mess up everything that has ocurred in past games.

I dont care if i dont like an ending if it at least makes sense, like Uncharted 3, i thought the ending was a carbon copy of U2 with unexploited villains, but at least it made sense in regards to what had happened in the game.

The ending for ME3 doesnt make any sense at all, even more confusing to me is how a company for 98% of the game has managed to resolve in such a great way so many variables about what had happened in previous games, manages to screw up so much in just 5 min, it feels like its done on purpose... that ending is what really goes against the game's artistic vision that had been shown for the past 100+h

Chuk55184d ago (Edited 5184d ago )

@Bimkoblerutso

I totally agree.
If games are ever to be considered a legitmate creative medium, having the cretors bend over on their work is just wrong.

If they admit something like it wasn't finished, that okay amend it somehow. But if it's what they intended, let it be. Also, it's just as much a slap in the face to bioware by their fans who are claiming 5 minutes made the entire series meaningless. That is just disrespectful.

--Onilink--5184d ago (Edited 5184d ago )

but what most people dont seem to notice is why are people complaining, this isnt some "i want a happier ending" type of thing, and people arent asking bioware to change it because of it, they are asking for something to be done because the ending as it is just doesnt make sense, it even dismisses entire plots in ME1 and ME2.

just to point a few (spoiler i guess)

-Catalyst kid says he is the one who controls the reapers and that the citadel is a part of him, so whats the point of ME1? Isnt sovereign left behind so every 50.000 years he activates the signal IN THE CITADEL to bring the rest of the reapers? The citadel is already a part of the one in control of the reapers, why is sovereign even there?

-In the real ending, bioware shows us a glimpse to show shepard survived...this is just absurd, unless he is waking up from Harbingers blast in London(which would imply that the endings arent real) we are being told that shepard who has no armor at all after being blast away/incinerated by Harbingers blast, survives those tubes blowing up in his face, then he survives THE ENTIRE CITADEL BLOWING UP IN HIS FACE, then he somehow manages not to suffocate due you know..being in space without any type of armor that allows him to breathe, even more, he now enters earth's athmosphere without being burned to ashes, only to crash on earth at hundreds/thousand of miles per hour, AND HE STILL MANAGES TO SURVIVE?? i guess cerberus really didnt need to revive shepard in ME2 since he can take all that and still survive...

c'mon... this isnt about "happy ending" or "bad ending", or the creators artistic vision, its about at least making sense and delivering on the promises you made

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine531d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast531d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman531d ago
