I haven't actually tried the destruction ending myself, but I don't know if it will be perfect because I have 50% EMS. However, I have done pretty much every side mission available and my overall number of allies is above 6000. It's a fantastic game, too bad the endings were all weird.
SPOILER Alert.
I don't have an issue with Shepherd dying in any of the endings (I expected it, and it is much more epic when he dies), my issue with it is that they don't show enough of the survivors and what happened next. Also I don't like how they destroyed the Mass Relays, that's just stupid, how do all the allied forces get back home?
End SPOILER
