Had Vista on my pc for a day, went straight back to xp

Would not use Vista again after trying it. I run performance critical applications where time is money and Vista runs at half the speed - not to mention many of the applications I need to run, don't run on it!

I had xp on both laptop and pc, but decided to update both, i have had no problems that couldn't be fixed within 10 mins, some games run better (cod2) and some worse Supreme commander. the benifits, searches, navigation and windows software really do work well if you have an ok pc its alot better.

I've used Vista for quite a few days actually. Thought it was pretty cool at first some I'm like "w00t this rocks!" Then I find out it didn't load most of the games I enjoyed playing online and a bunch of other software I had, had problems also. So I made the switch right back to Windows XP which really is still a good OS to use.

Vista is the most advanced Operating System ever developed. As an owner of Vista Ultimate I am very satisfied with the product, the only issues I have had is compatibility issues with some older games and programs, but there has always been workarounds.

When XP first came out people were saying the exact same thing about that OS. Once Vista matures enough most people will make the shift to the new platform quite happily

if you think its failed just wait for CES when bill gates gives his keynote speech. i bet that he will give the numbers for vista.

- they just have to slowly phase out xp and fully support vista
- then iron out the bugs.

i feel like this!! if these OTHER OS were as good as you guys keep saying, then I think the most of the world would use them!! what OS do you think most BANKS, GOVERMENTS an places of importance use. if linux was as good or reliable or as easy to use as windows it would be a bigger split than what it is. what is it now like 80% windows 12 & mac an 8 % linux. Mac is good for video editing apps, but alot of places dont want to run their BUSINESS with anything other than WINDOWS!!

Had it for at least 2-3 months.

I had vista ultimate for like 5 months. I have switched back to xp. Until they release the service pack 1 I am not going back to vista. And the dumb Nvidia drivers are so horrible they dont even recognize my video card correctly so the screen goes all fuzzy and gets scrambled. There are so much problems with vista. Xp is so much easier to use and its alot faster and is not a resource hog.

the thing with vista, remember when people got dvd players to take the place of vcr tapes. dvd's were better an you didnt need a new tv get use out of it. with blu ray an hd -dvd you need a new hd tv to take advantage of it thats, why it hasnt taken off like it was supposed to, with vista you almost need a new high spec cpu just to take advantage of it. some people had just got new computers now your telling them their PC isnt capable of running this OS correctly!! i dont have vista because my rig cant run it as with many other people. if MS wouldnt have made it such a resource hog it would have been better accepted.

XP is the best OS that they've made. It's not a great OS, but Service Pack 3 has shown that Microsoft is capable of improving its performance. Now if they can streamline a sequel to XP and get rid of all the DRM crap of Vista (and make those really cool visuals optional and less taxing on the hardware) then people will most likely PAY for a new OS.

If only linux would get some better support from game developpers =)

Now they, stupidly, released Vista, they should spend more time on fixing and promoting Vista. I dont see that happening. What a waste of time and money...

btw: few months ago, i purchased Vista and couldnt install it onto my PC. I upgraded the memory size of my PC and still it wouldnt run. I think it is something to do with my PC graphic card.
I couldnt be bothered to spend more money so i sold Vista and kept XP.

i'll say this...don't upgrade to it...buyt a pc with it vista installed it's not bad as people make it out to be..its quite spiffy

MS has over 90% of the OS market with really no serious competition. Also that number is probably way bigger because of PIRACY.

Just as Sony sold 90 million PS2 so we know some might be waiting to upgrade. Hey I still like XP. When vista runs the same I could use XP forever.

The only thing is the console market changes every 6 years so eventually people will upgrade or buy the competition but in the OS market, I know some still use win 98. More likely some will upgrade to another windows instead of the competition.

I do agree MS does have some new competition and its really google thats most serious. So no vista has not failed but personally when it runs better ill upgrade.

I bought a laptop from Dell that came with Vista. Suddenly I have to upgrade all my current software too, so many incompatible software plus With 2GB of ram and it still slow, the hard disk always doing something which is kinda annoying. I called up Dell to express my disgruntled, they gave me $80 coupon so that I can replace it with Windows XP. Pretty nice of them

Yep, along with every Windows OS... XP is only popular because it's cheapest(apart from Linux), and it comes standard with basically any prebuilt PC except for the 200-250 dollar Red Hat PC's at wal-mart. Ugh, Vista is a driver hell... Very few people like it, my Grandma(yes, grandma) got a new PC with Vista, an NVIDIA 8800, 4gb of RAM... I know, insane for a granny, but anyways, she wishes she still had her windows 2000, or a Mac.

Sure I'm an Anti-Microsoft Apple Junkie/Linux "Hippie"... but I'm open to a Windows OS without bugs and one that will actually run properly. For now I'll stick with good 'Ol Ubuntu Linux ^_^ Both on my PS3 and on my PC!

After trying out Vista multiple times, on multiple PCs, at multiple places, I've come to the conclusion that Vista SUCKS.

I'm hoping to stick with XP for as long as possible until MS can make a proper operating system.

Vista suck because your PC sucks. I'm using Vista since launch, I tried Vista Ultimate 32 bits on my old PC a Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz and 2Gb RAM and of course it sucks. If you have 2Gb of RAM and playing games Vista will suck no matter what. I upgraded my rig on august Dual core @2.66Ghz and 4Gb of RAM now that config is the natural eviroment for Vista 64 (Xp can't handle 4Gb of ram it only shows 3.2GB). And of course you will find bugs, drivers problems, poor game performance, etc. The same problems that I had with XP when launched. I remeber having better frame rates on Windows 98 than on XP. Just give it time.

ONly problem with vista is the games play 10-15 frames slower. My rig E6600 @ 3.4 o/c'd C2D 2GB and 7950gx2 single sli 512x2 card, has 5.4 rating in Vista Ultimate with Aero. The prob is that out of 2 gb only 1 gb is left. While playing BF1942 it gives me around 80fps whereas xp gives me 90-100+ fps. Baring driver issues and memory hog, vista is not too bad and once these sps are released for it, im sure people will start appreciating it. But if ur system struggles in xp then dont bother.

Two years ago my laptop came with XP, and I'll never change it. 2 months ago I ordered my girlfriend's laptop for her and they pushed Vista on me like crazy. It got to the point where I said "If you don't shut the hell up about Vista and put XP on that machine, I will not be doing business with your company." That's all it took, and I had an order for a new laptop with XP SP2 in 5 minutes. The company was Dell, not that it matters.

I have an Apple laptop ( Leopard and XP ) and I love both .. XP was the best OS from MS imo .. and every professional user knows WE DONT NEED VISTA right now..

Leopard is so much faster than Tiger ( boot , software loadings ,file opening .... etc )

my friends using Linux ubuntu on their laptops ( they arent gamer like me ) and they love that too ..

I have not used Mac OS much but I know from Apple products like Safari, iTunes, and Quicktime that Apple products are not very customizable and I hate the interfaces. I know from about 2 hours in store of playing with the Mac OS that simple things on XP and Vista required a lot more clicks and effort to do tasks. Then I wanted to customize different programs and I didn't find many options.

Other then the interface though, Mac OS's are probably more advanced because Apple has a smaller installer base that allows them to make changes quickly.

Its not a complete failure.. but VISTA is in no way a GAMERS BEST FRIEND.. it takes too much resources away from stuff ur game needs and that slows games down..

i use XP on my gaming rig.. my new laptop came with VISTA and its okay but i don't like the way in handles directories and everything should be downloaded under my user.. VISTA rox for NEWBS.. but XP is what i need.. i manage my own files and what not.. i don't install everything to PROGRAMFILES and vista doesn't seem to like that very much.. lucky the laptop is just for light work.. no processor intensive and crucial stuff..

if anybody uses there computer and for business use, please by the love of your daily work routine, dont bother messing with it by upgrading to vista,

I'm a network student and through our school program I can get MS products free (except Office) and even though i'm building a gaming pc, I won't get Vista until it proves itself.

i'm just using my old case and putting in a 650 watt power supply. I could've gone with higher specs but this system will kick ass for a while. :) I'm glad to get back into pc gaming. I want to play Witcher and Everquest II.

I tried out Vista for a couple days when it came out since I got a free copy. Some of the features were pretty cool, but when it came to game performance, Vista was abysmal. I tried it out again around two months ago, but even one year later performance is still horrible. A 20% performance drop in Team Fortress 2 is unacceptable.

I got a new 2gb ram laptop and I have no problems personally with Vista. I actually enjoy my Vista more than I did my XP. Mainly because of the better security on my computer with Vista than XP.

Im an IT Manager, I use Vista , and try it out with everyday coporate programs and server work, over all I give it a 6-7 out of 10. The server functionality when working with a server is horrible, I assume they want you to upgrade to server 2008 prob is why, nice way to force you to want to move and pay up. The look and shell is great but over all until people get the driver upgrades out in mass and more people switch , even then the best I would give it then would be an 8.

for people say oh it does not have a great performance compared to XP well than... GET A NEW PC because vista is fine on MINE

and so far so good...no crashes, no bluescreens of death (unlike the freakin dell piece of crap running xp, gave over 40 bluescreens of death within 6 months-yes i counted most the time). I do loads of video editing, special effects and stuff like that, and these Vista computers have been working spectacular:
Desktop: quad-core HP 2.4GHz, 3GB RAM, Nvidia 8600GT and it performs better than the quad-core Mac pros I've used at college-an 800$ PC vs a 2600$ MAC Pro with same specs (except the MAC Pro had 4GB RAM and Nvidia 8600GTS)...Mac is overrated.

The Laptop however is more average, core 2 duo 2GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel 950 accelerator, but it still works great for video editing.

But anyway, both run Vista Home Premium great. My only beef with VIsta is that for a few actions you have to do almost every day, it still asks u permission, no little checkbox "Always do this", and of course, incompatibility with some things (but theyve been working on that and taking care of it fast, just like any other time a new OS came out.

Vista is also by far the safest OS in terms of defense against jerk hackers and viruses n crap. I heard on the radio that hackers are really pissed, and are preparing to target Macs, so Apple may have a major crisis on their hands as their reputation for no viruses might bite the dust, which was the only thing that really made macs "better" in the first place.

I honestly though Vista would be loaded with major screwups like everything else microsoft puts out for the first month or 2, but they done well this time. Just be sure you have 2GB of RAM (3GB if you're using a Dell, they can't even run XP very good if you do stuff half as demanding as video editing).

They realy did I'm not kidding and it even made me buy a Mac thinking Windows was over. Boy was I wrong, it's ok I still love my Mac.

I'm on Vista right now, and I honestly don't see anything that can bring any major complaints. I see innovations that may have alienated previous XP users, but the same can be said of any piece of software that get's regularly updated. XP was thought to be a dressed up OS that meant to futher the progression of the overall look of a software working environment. But only those who knew the technical aspects of the it would see it for its future.

And I'll admit that Mac OS X is sublime in its presentation. But an arguement over superiority is both a: pointless and b: baseless. Just because I say so or he says so or they said so, doesn't mean that anyone of us is right. I'm happy with Vista and that's what matters the most. My complaints? Gaming performance and high resource usage...just about the same complaints I had with XP when my system seemed cool with 192mb of RAM.

What does it mean? That the industry drives ITSELF. nVida makes GPUs that in turn get put through the wringer when devs make games specifically designed for them and in turn age when nVida releases new hardware, for those who need to get 1000FPS in their games, which get put through the wringer when new games come out and then eventually cease to produce acceptatble framrates in future titles, forcing people to upgrade again.

The pursuit of nicer cleaner graphics, interfaces and sounds.
At the cost of rapid depreciation, suffered by those who in turn resent having upgraded to a newer OS.

to conclude, vista has not failed. rather, Windows XP and MacOSX have all too well succeeded:)

I've wanted to buy a new computer for months now, but I'm too afraid of Vista. I really want to be able to play new games (I can't play many on my current comp.). I don't want to get a new computer and use an old OS (XP) - something about that just seems backwards. But I don't want to have Vista, and have games hate me. Hopefully they release some updates that help that stuff out...

In a couple of years when computers have more RAM and such I'm sure Vista won't be nearly as hazardous to our gaming health.

i bought a new computer, and my internet browser is always freezing, windows are always freezing and not responding half the time. Games run fine on it, but sometimes when i switch between the game and the regular screen, there are things stuck on the regular screen from the game.
Sometimes things run really slow, and there is crashes all the time i have, so i hope they fix all the bugs up very soon

Once Linux supports more games I'll have little reason to use Win as my main OS anymore. I've been booting to Ubuntu more often than XP since the Gutsy 7.10 distro.
