Console Wars: Let’s All Forget the Past

From the PlanetXbox360.com feature article (Part 1):

"Console Wars will be a three-part feature series where one writer at PlanetXbox360.com analyzes the state of the current generation consoles and the so-called console wars. In this first part we’ll be looking at the initial launch of the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii and how each one has fared from that date until now. The second part will cover this year and what’s possibly in store for the future. In the last part of this series we’ll go beyond and look at the next generation."

@ Ultima

Sure...good luck with your console war. *chants with hands over ears* The Wii doesn't exist. The Wii doesn't exist.

I can't wait to see what games E3 will bring for the Ps3 and Xbox360 this year though. I really hope Microsoft announces some new IP exclusives at the event, I'm really starting to feel left out with all the Kinect games. Really hoping Sony's The Last of Us game plays well and FFvs13 finally appears again. Nintendo will probably announce the Wii U so that should be interesting.

Edit: @ Godmars

Did you catch this part? Good laugh.

"It was hard for a lot of PS3 owners to swallow their pride and admit that the 360 is much more suitable for games. Every year, Xbox 360 exclusives or multiplatform games that ran better on the 360 would be ****nominated**** for Game of the Year on many ****sites****."

You know something? I don't even think a 360 exclusive has ever even won a Spike TV GOTY award this gen. Sony won one, Nintendo won one, but the 360 hasn't (Even Gear of War didn't win when there wasn't much out that year). Yet you notice the push here and at the end of the article for the 360 exclusives ("IMO", "Some sites nominated", etc).

I don't care who thinks what!
I have my favorite console and no need to argue about it.

Will it influence my future purchases? YES! I'm not forgetting about the past. What a ridiculous thing to even propose.

kikizoo5188d ago

hands down...lol.

probably for noise level, rrod, taxes for online and accesories, inferior video format, inferior graphics, less exclusives each year, inferior motion controler, etc etc etc etc

and for $$$ in us, ok (with ms medias and brainwashed players)

Pretty sure its not happening. If only because I'm pretty sure that people in the 360 camp have been phantom disagreeing in all the QD tech demo articles. Which apparently have stolen thunder from the latest stills for Halo 4.

You'd think they'd save up for the PS4 vs Xbox 720 vs Wii U.

LightofDarkness5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

There were a lot of people disagreeing in those articles because of the manic and over-zealous fanboy orgy taking place in most of them.

It was like 07/08 all over again, with all the fanboys waving flags and saying things like "only possible on PS3" and listing exclusives etc. Just when people thought we were turning a corner on the whole console war thing, all of the troglodyte rhetoric began spilling forth again, with everyone once again acting like they'd "won" something. If that much wasn't obvious, then I don't know what to tell you.

There's being excited about a game, and then there's being excited about the game being on your console of choice ONLY. And even then, there's pretending that what you just saw was the greatest achievement in gaming and using it to proclaim a victory over an imagined foe.

Kyosuke_Sanada5188d ago

Does it really matter which console wins when gaming itself is losing in general now-a-days.....

^ and all this is why gamers suck ass.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle23d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree29d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai29d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde30d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy31d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
