Soooooooooo what im hearing is that the new ipad is 2x as powerful as current gen systems, 2x the price, has 1/2 the contoller options, and has 2x the hype. Im sorry but ill pass on an ipad for my gaming needs.

Why are console owners so angry and defensive? I mean jees come on, must every positive statement about an ipad or iphone be countered with negative spin? Why can't we just accept and move on? You guys are really petty.

I am a pretty big fan of the iPad, and will certainly be buying the new one because of that beautiful screen. However, I laughed out loud when they claimed that console owners preferred gaming on iPads. Without buttons they can never surpass console experiences, no matter how great the specs.

HAHAHA define "better". A slate with no buttons/thumbsticks is not a better games machine than a home console.

So basically it's better because it has more ram and higher resolution? You can tell they just entered the gaming industry, making graphics arguments. Tell me, how many polygons it can push. Does it have physical buttons? What kinda dev support is it getting? Can I play Mario, Zelda, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, Killzone, Halo, and the like on it?

LOL even A5X chip will not beat PS3's cell when it comes to total processing power, perhaps the ipad 3's ram and retina display might be the ipad's advantage, but aside from that there's nothing more lol.

Okay, I now look into the specs, its the same with the vita, the problem of course is that the vita is a modified version by sony, that is why there is a (+) on it, the processor is not on par with it, so the ram is only the thing that outmatches it based on inside specs.

So.. Uncharted and GeoW are coming to new iPad? No? So what's the point of the title for gaming audience of this site?

Nice screen? Sure. If I'd had all tablets besides each other, it would be a hard choice between the iPad 3 and the Asus Prime.

Screen aside, I prefer my PSVita even with the smaller screen of 5 inch but OLED, with a quad core CPU, a quad core GPU and the best made controls for a portable device ever.

Can't beat that with an iPad! Oh and its also impossible to beat a portable version of PSN that finally has cross game chat, it even beats the PS3 that's still gimped with no cross game chat.

But hey, that website wants hits for a nice title for the story I guess

well thats cool and all, but with buttons, exclusive ips, and good gaming networks available on these cheaper consoles(which are only going to get cheaper) i think i speak for many when i say we dont really care.

Tech always improves, i am sure the next pair of next gen consoles will be more powerful than the current ones. And i am sure there will also be another ipad around as well. Nothing new really.

Gaming on an iPad sucks, it always has and always will.

You have to cover 40% of the screen with your hand to control your character or what ever. Yeah. Great concept.

It has it's moments, but it will NEVER replace PC/console-type gaming.

Better than current-gen consoles on what criteria? Games? Obviously not. Technology? Not comparable. Visual quality? Depends on your display set. Brand value? I doubt it. Either way it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Let's go ahead and state th obvious.

1. 2012 Technology vs 2006 technology

2. Controller vs no buttons(Not even including motion Controlls like Kinect, Wii+, and move)

3. XBL, PSN, Nintendo Network vs................

4. Hundreds of thouands games that include Angry birds, Infinity Blade, and Umm Vs Gears of War, Halo, Metal Gear, God of War, Pokemon, Mario, Grand Theft Auto, Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Killzone, Forza, Gran Turismo, Fable, Portal, mass Effect, and this list never ends.

5. 99 cent games that equal no fun for about a minute or possible some fun that lasts an hour for the majority of games vs 60 dollar games that last for roughly between 6 to 50 hours long, not including multiplayer.

6. Mulimedia consoles vs a tablet

Here is the real question. Ipad may graphically be close to this Gens consoles but will they come any where near next gen's? Which will be out very soon starting with the Wii U this year.

Ipad's are not a gaming system so stop posting this in gaming news. People who play games on Ipads are not on these websites because they dont care, and the people who know things about gaming dont care about Ipads games because they are not nearly as good as what we have been given for the last 20 years and more.

It may look like the PS3 and Xbox. But it doesn't have the same functionalities nor the same Marketing ploy, like PSN and Xbox as well as over all capabilities.

When I look at the size of the iPad and the PSV i wonder why Sony hasn't released a true PS3 slim yet...

tablet/smartphone games are soley to pass time. I'm not whipping out my tablet to play Defender because I cant wait to beat the game.. I do it in class when we are going on tangents, waiting for a bus, etc.
