is it just me or heavy rain was better in terms of facial expresions and generally the facial stuff...???

The tecnology is more advance than Team Bondi's, they actually captured actress' facial, motion and sound at the same time.

Still need to see the actual game. But considering how HR improved on its tech demo, what are the chances that the next title wont manage to look better than this.

Ehh.... this better be their new game. I just pictured this as an intro... you're an android who develops emotions and thoughts and, after getting outside, the company sees you as a danger and tries to destroy you... you can't fight back, but you have to run because you don't want to die.

Also, this is YEAR old tech demo! YEAR OLD, so we can only image how their next game will look.

I thought Heavy Rain was impressive , but this is a whole leap forward. I'm looking forward to QD's new game - I hope they keep this futuristic setting!

Wow was just expecting a brief tech demo showing off the power, but didn't think i'd actually get engrossed into the video so much.

Wow, I had no idea PS3 was capable of graphics like that, it's good enough for a movie.

In fact, I'm really interested in that character already. She seemed far more real emotionally than most game characters that are supposed be to living...

I thought I was alive...

I really hope she's the protagonist for QD's new game. The tech demo itself was wonderfully executed and managed to resonate with me. If a 7 minute vid like that can get an emotional response then I can't wait what Cage has in store when the game comes out.

I'll be buying another copy of Heavy Rain just to keep these kind of studios alive. I don't want my grandchildren to play mindless CODs, the sooner we realize that gaming is a way of expression and a sub-genre of art that can actually convey EMOTIONS the better for the whole gaming community.

And I don't even care about the technology at this point, Quantic Dream is the god of mature storytelling in video games and I absolutely love them for that.

And a word to SONY: what the hell are you waiting for? Make them a first party already!

This game is a must it reminds me of I Robot, AI, and Bicentenieal Man I hope this is an RPG. I like the sci fi where the robots question wether they are alive or notand whats their purpose. This game is going to be very interesting and now I must have it.

Interesting statement from David Cage "We developed tech for future, and realized it could run on PS3. We thought we did a lot with the Heavy Rain engine, but realized that we did not do much compared to what the hardware could do. Kara demo is year old...only contains 50% of the features from new engine."

Wow...mind blown...and to think that Heavy Rain is still top 5 best looking game on consoles to this day...can't wait to see the new game running on the new engine...

As a 15 year old back in 2006 the original Heavy Rain casting demo didn't impress me at all due to rubbish animations and the fact that it had a PS2ish vibe to it with unbearable lip-sync animations and uncanny behavior.

Then the actual game comes out and I couldn't help but notice the crappy PS2ish textures on literally every surface in the game, including pale faced character models that looked lifeless and the skin textures looked kind of blurry.

Now QD shows off their "new" technology and what do we see? something that looks exactly like HR. I've come to the conclusion that QD are rubbish devs.

I didn't really like UC3 but I have to say that ND's character models look and act more realistic than anything QD has achieved and the funny thing is that QD's primary focus is Character realism in terms of emotions, behavior and looks.

I will definitely avoid their games for the remainder of this gen and the next. They have absolutely no potential imo.

Basic Premise of the Story:

Episode 1

"Artificial Me"

In a world where the only intelligence is artificial intelligence, every AI that is "born" must be tested to ensure they exhibit what's referred to as True Sentience (TS factor), the struggles that plagued societies of the barely extant remnants of humanity persist even in this new Eden of synthetic life.

Kara's reaction was not an aberration, but the desired result. To cherish one's own existence, to preserve the self, is the basest and most undervalued component of "being." But to what extent any being, themselves, adheres to this "instinct," is an interminably debatable question.

Like their human counterparts, there are enforcers of the rule of law and those oppressed by them: deviants, though, the system of crime and punishment in this digital domain is a thing apart from the human judicial process of the past. How then can you, as a man, hope to conceive, let alone, divine the traces left behind by a consciousness, one of these 'deviants,' that is altogether dissimilar to your own?

And still, the question remains, in this realm of cybernetic ambiguity, where does the guilt lie, with the creator, or the creation.

Episode 2

"Automaton"

Damn, I'm pumped after watching that. Seemed to be more impactful than The Casting, though it's just a tech demo.

Looking good. I hope their next game tones down on the pointless QTEs that Heavy Rain had. And please, let it be about this Kara lady robot thing.

Wow, the past 7 minutes felt like 2 minutes to me!

This had me at the edge of my seat, and I thought the Operator was gonna (Surprise) disassemble her or something when he said join the others. Overall I was blown away, I didn't want it to end.

Bravo Quantic, and David Cage. Bravo.

Now thats something. Sony has made me shiver twice now, two days in a row. First, I got/played Journey...and now this. That's some crazy ass magic they are pulling with that 256mb of system ram. I'm one of the ones really looking forward to Sony's next gen system, but sh*t like this really makes me reconsider.

I love her expression when she learns of her name. It's so haunting yet blissful...

judging from the Heavy Rain tech demo (back in 2006)the main character from the tech demo wasn't an important character in the final game, rather she was just a side character but the worlds seemed similar in tone and setting. We can definitely be sure to expect the final title to this to be Kara and this person/android will most definitely be a playable character. This kind of ruins the whole "next game will take place during a war" rumor that David Cage was going to base the game on but that may still ring true...futuristic era, war torn society, androids...count me in!

That was insane holy cow if we get games running like that in the next gen i would be happy to pay $70 a game that was incredible.

Loved Fahrenheit and thought Heavy Rain was pretty awesome.

Obviously we know nothing about the gameplay...and as much as everyone is raving about the graphics (yes they are awesome) it's the CONCEPT i'm in love with!

Love when the medium pushes emotion like this. Makes me proud to game.

While the character is still far from being indistinguishable from a real human being, I believe the strong point I got from this video were her facial expressions. The emotion from her facial expressions show that we are much more further along when it comes to conveying convincing facial emotions than I was aware of. For those 7 minutes are so I was, for a time, invested in her desire to exist even if it were small and brief.

If this is how I feel with even a proof of concept video in real time on PS3, then I look forward to what a finished product would look like in similar fashion.

Its certainly came a long way from Heavy Rain's ambitious venture. A long way indeed.

The subtle movements & emotions, the fluidness of the animation (did you catch the way her eyes rolled when he told her to do so? Many games have trouble with that). And the nude scene was cool & tastefully done.
I just don't know what to say.

Oh, but can you imagine if even half of these games out could grasp you the way this demo did?
I think that I would never leave the house.

Awesome tech demo.

That was really refreshing to see. In a gen dominated by shooters it is devs like Quantic Dream that i really admire for doing something extremely different.

If David Cage & comp. do a game similar to this tech demo that will be something i wanna play. We get so few games that tug at you emotionally & make you really think. Games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Flower, Journey, Heavy Rain & others like it do not come around that often. When they do they should be cherished for what they try to convey.

A lot of credit go to Sony for giving devs like Quantic Dream the 'go ahead' to do games like these. They are not afraid to take chances knowing themselves it is a risk & maybe not financially a benefit for them.

They said quite clearly that this wasn't a game. It has nothing to do with any game they are currently developing, it's purely to show off the tech that are using. It's a lovely video, but, as a gamer, I'd like to see some games. Show me the games.
