Is it necessary to play Mass Effect 1 and 2 in order to enjoy Mass Effect 3's gameplay and story?

One of the best things about the Mas Effect series is the companions you meet along the way. So here is a tier list of all the companions from Mass Effect!
To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

Based on one narratively fitting ending in Mass Effect 3, Prothean squadmate Javik is highly unlikely to return in the next Mass Effect game.

Yes.
Seriously, who jumps into a trilogy in the final installment?
I don't know who would be stupid enough to jump into the lat game. It was stupid of the EA/BioWare people to market the game as and I quote " A PERFECT time to jump into the trilogy" areyoukiddingme.jpg
Anyways, I'll be buying this in a few weeks time hopefully its has the ending that this trilogy deserves
I feel Mass Effect is a series where background knowledge is needed. I think I would be very lost in ME3, had I not played the earlier games, and I would certainly not be enjoying it to the level I am.
On the other hand there are games like Assassins Creed where you could probably jump into it mid-series and never really miss the earlier stuff.
