Auditorium Review (PC)-CPG

Auditorium is a beautiful indie puzzle game, and is all about creating songs. You accomplish this by directing a stream of particles through an audio box. The more particles flowing through it, the faster the box will fill. As the audio levels within the box increase, different elements of the song start to play. You complete a level by having the particle stream flow through all the audio boxes on the level, filling them all, and thus completing the song. Players can manipulate the stream with spheres of influence that can direct the direction of the stream, create vortex’s, or accelerate the flow, as well as several other different effects. Each sphere can be expanded or contracted, larger spheres have more influence on the stream while smaller ones thus have less. Challenge is added by introducing color spheres that will change the color of the particle stream to correlate with colored audio boxes. Although difficult to explain, the premise of the game is easy to understand despite the lack on instruction.

The search for emergent storytelling

"Can a dynamically created story ever be as good as a meticulously authored one? Again, that’s not a very good question. Some people prefer tightly-wound, clockwork narratives, with authored gears of suspense that drive the story’s momentum at just the right pace, drama and adrenaline injected at calculated moments. Others favor stories that are relaxed and airy. They prefer plots held together more by a web of shared storytelling and personalization than the iron rivets of any authorial voice."
