Sony did this with Rumble, Microsoft is going to do it with Motion Sensing.

This is an example of not "copying", but rather, how competition is good for consumers.

If the companies have to keep 1-upping each other, we as consummers, will benfit from better products.

Try to keep fan wars to a minimum.

So they are gonna add Wii motes. The Wii fad thing, to see if they to can now bank of the Wii's success.

i really hope they dont add it, ps3 motion sensor support is cool for a few psn store games but thats about it.

Then it would make nintendo turn it up 10 notches. Really, it'll work in the long run.

Who cares if they atempt a motion sensing control , I dont see it as copying , they may take it to the next level for all we know.

This controller would make Star Wars the force unleashed on 360 the definitive version. If the said controller turns out well.

Seems this could end up being an evolutionary step for the industry that leads to the fabled virtual reality console. Started by nintendo makes sense.

Ugh royally bad move for MS if this is true. If stuff like this is to be implemented it should be standard for the system line, or else devs won't utilize it and we'd get half assed tacked on motion for games a la 90% of PS3's sixaxis implementation. Nintendo learned that lesson the hard way with the kabillion peripherals for NES and SNES (Powerglove, Uforce, Superscope anyone?) and made every Wii with motion sensitivity. I'm going to take this one with a bucket of salt until otherwise proven true.

Or the underhanded responses from both MS and Sony regarding this. Definitely easier to add motion sensing than force feedback to existing controllers, but it would probably be smarter for Microsoft to NOT go ahead with this idea.

It'll just end up making them look even more like copycats after what they did with the HD-DVD add on, HDMI, and the Elite SKU.

First off, I don't even think its possible to count the number of excessive hardware upgrades and SKUs M$ has made to the 360.

And now by adding "motion sensing controllers" into the mix, they are bluntly copying [Nintendo], the company they have been making fun of for never going to become a success AND that it was not going to be any competition against them.

-HD-DVD add-ons when it should've been included internally
-HDMI should've been included from the start
-33% failure rate? They should've upgraded the heat sinks as SOON as the problem became mainstream

This aint true, why would MS even bother? its just like they would change the dvd reader to a hd-dvd reader, everyone who bought a xbox controller would have to change it to get the new one.
And dont give me that sony is doing the same thing with the rumble implant, you dont need to go and buy yourself a brand new controller just to play the new games, but if MS would do this it would really piss people off.

What MS should do right now is offer consumers 360 controllers with either an internal battery or something of that idea.

look at the original dual shock for the ps1. I got my ps1 when it first came out so I have the original non-dual shock controller. When the ds came out it eventually became the norm. Even to new ps1 owners, they prob never had the opportunity to use a non-ds controller.

Fast forward to the PS3 with the non-ds3 controller. All people talk about is how this controller is what was needed from the start. Guess what, it will be a pack in and new owners will prob never have had the chance to play a non-ds3 controller with the ps3.

Copying or innovation whatever you want to use it is all part of gaming "EVOLUTION". For ms to NOT have a controller that does motion is ludicrous.

I mean if you were to ask average people they would lead you to believe an "IPOD" is something other then an MP3 player. They somewhat put IPOD in a whole light of it's own. Of course Apple was not the first with MP3 players.

i have been very loyal to games but to have MS play around the same silly game of i have motion too is abit out of league.
1) XBOX 360 didn't have hdmi at launch and we now what happend afterward(the elite shows up)
2)xbox opted for dvd drive and now we have HD-dvd drives in the form of an add-on
3)we truly welcome ms thoughts in considering the minimal HDD they shipped in 360 to have an elite model 1 year later with a bigger and expensive drive is another story

yet with all the hype sicaxis is getting lately and how boring it is this is unwise desision by the company that brought to you the RRODBOX

I really don't. I can understand for the Wii, but for PS3 and 360 just stick to regular gaming pads. Just look at Lair, that was all motion sensing and it turned out to be very bad.

Even though MS probably has Wii envy (same with Sony), they will NEVER be the Wii of this generation. Some controller with an added tilt function or IR receiver on it is not going to make a dent in the market the Wii has already captured. It's too little Too late for MS.

Heck, the PS3 technically has motion sensing control ability via SIXAXIS and it hasn't added much to the game library.

Poor droids have to play that mailbox shapped 400lb console that playes 360's sloppy seconds (POORLY) and most at 30fps with jaggies and washed out color. I wonder will the PS3's attach rate actualy reach 3 this holiday season? LOL we all know it already has a 5/6 attach rate for Blu-Ray movies. Half of PS3 owners (3 million) are online and it's free and 80% online for the 360 (about 10 million) and it's cost $50 a year. LOL that is what I call PWNED HARD.

Motion sensing is something that should be the focus of the console not some tacked on piece of trash that nobody will use.

This is an old rumor that started last year. I remeber reading an article where Mr. Gates was saying how he wants motion control for the xbox360. But the controller will end up being like a "sixaxis rip" more than anything.

Nintendo has stated numberous times that the tech behind the wiimote is patented and that competitors cant come out with a direct wiimote rip. So in this area MS would either reinvent motion control (doubt it), or do the "sixaxis rip".

Either way they are going to do it. But whatever......I STILL NEED A REASON TO BUY A 360!!

Third party devs do not put thier shoulder to the wheel now.
But if both consoles support motion sensing, devs become to get into it then some funkey devs hit on a hot idea of using motion sensing.

My idea of usgin motion sensing in FPS is to bind it as Lean movement.
Many console FPSs doesn't have lean movement that most PC FPSs have like Call of Duty 4.
It's because lacking the number of buttons in controller, I think.

Corporations are out to make money and they ALL do what they can to get money from the other. The LITTLE fanboys will argue to what extent their Corp of choice does it but the fact is they are all borrowing from previous tech whether tweaked or not.

PS3 is the next gen system xbox360 and wii are a piece of crap xbox can still have the motion sensing if they want but they wont win the console war and wii is so last gen ps2 is better than the wii.

Coming from the Wii and seeing the stupid PS3 implimentation, I don't see this becoming a BIG thing. The Wii controller is very limiting for games us PS3 and 360 users expect. The most 360 could do is what PS3 is doing, make stupid games with a stupid way of moving.

But don't get me wrong, what the Wii is doing (and what hackers are doing to the Wii) is amazing. If I were MS and Sony, I wouldn't put too much effort into motion sensing controls NOW, but next gen will probably be big on it as we push into Virtual Reality (head tracking, hand/knee tracking).

I dont mind motion sensing to come to the platform, as long as its not like the Wii in the sense that it is required to pretty much play anything you want. I dont care how innovative motion sensing is, flailing my arms or wrists around every few seconds is about as satisfying as a handjob on your honeymoon...

Wii60 games may be just high-specced /medium-specced editions.
Most likely third parties and MS have seen the writing on the wall in regards to traditional interfaces and simply want a huge market, the sooner the better. Motion sensing expands the industry.

Yah, 360 will relate to wii's target audience and devs could make more money selling there motion control games on more then 1 system.

It will be a natural step for wii owners looking for a console with a graphical upgrade. If they can pull it off . Hopefully they don't rush it and launch it when they have a few killer games for this thing.

Alot of 360 fans bash PS3 owners, but you guys end up paying just as much if not more for your system to stay current with technology. Where PS3 owners paid the 6,5, or 400$ and dont have to worry about purchasing anything else but some games, and maybe a Dual-Shock 3 if they feel the need to.

Microsoft wants to compete with this technology, they need to do something innovative with it, not just tack it on to a game as an afterthought. They need to implement it better than Sony has, although, motion control has no interest for me. I don't mind the Six-axis, but I want the Dual Shock 3. I'm a sucker for old tech.

The Wii has more then one motion sensing, for those who don't know jack about anything and like to run their mouths. The Wii not only has a TILT sensor, it also has IR Track Sensing.

The PS3 has a TILT sensor but not IR Tracking.

So the 360 will require their controllers to have 2 technologies in their controllers if they want to keep up with the WiiMote. I doubt this would happen unless they come out with a radically new controller design that mimics the WiiMote. That said, the technology most likely being used (if this is a true rumor) would be a Tilt sensor which is boring anyway.

@MS - Skip motion skipping on the 360 as it's a boring feature that will lack any game support. If you want to be innovative do your homework and come out with something crazy next gen like everyone else.

Of course MS are going to copy the motion sensing contols that the WII has - have you not nticed how they are desperately trying to court the casual gamer? The PS2 did this for ages with all sorts of wierd and wonderful add-ons that attracted all sorts of interesting games with a broad appeal. There's nothing wrong with MS doing it.

Sony hasn't capitalized at all on it's motion sen.controls.

MS was the first to come out w/a motion sensative controller in the 80's, but even still sony fans don't get me started on saying MS is tryinfg to copy your system, I mean we could say the same for the PSN or even a hard drive in gaming so stop right there, also you copied the Wii's controller and we could say that sony has copied MS rumble even though they said it was last gen tech etc.....

Besides, MS is going to have a Motion control option but you don't have to use it, it's only for certian games, for ex. me personally I can't stand motion controlls, I think it takes away unless your doing a bowling type game or something.

it's not like you need Cell to get a controller with motion sensing. Come ON people, think logical here. This isn't some sort of devine alchemy, we're simply talking internal renovations. They can put motion sensing into it if they want.

Just hope they don't call it by the same missleading title of "sixaxis" (in geometry there are only 3 xyz, with 2 polarites each + and -)

Having both 360 and a Wii, I can see why MS would want to have a motion sensing control.

At current technology, Wiimote is highly inaccurate when compared to 360 controller. I don't consider this to be an opinion but a fact. I can't imagine playing Halo or Crackdown with Wiimote (yes I played Metroid prime and would have liked it MUCH better with traditional controllers or even SMG for that matter). I'd be frustrated after about 10 min or so.

OTOH, playing Wii Sport is very fun with a Wiimote and the inaccuracies don't really detract that much from the experience of swinging the arms. Playing that game with a 360 controller would be just lame.

Having both really makes a lot of sense. Traditional controller for those games that require accuracy. Motion sensing for those games which don't require much accuracy but enable higher emersion due to muscle motion.
