Pachter defends "Nintendo in disarray" claims

Controversial US analyst Michael Pachter has reiterated his assertion that Nintendo “is in disarray”.

He initially made the claim during a speech at the Ayzenberg A-List Summit 2012. Following the predictable outrage on games forum Neogaf Pachter chimed in to defend his remarks.

Knight_Cid5187d ago

just his neogaf comments. Nothing to get crazy over

Colwyn5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

This Matey is right. Only the Nintendo apologists would disagree with facts and the state of affairs that's been happening with Nintendo.

The wiis sales have declined drastically while the hd consoles are increasing yearly. The Nintendo apologists are waiting for games that were released in Japan a long time ago because there aren't going to be any big games coming out for the wii waitstation.

The 3ds sales were below expectation at launch so Nintendo dropped 1/3 the cost of the device. The 3ds is incomplete and is missing parts so you have to buy a second circle pad add-on. The 3ds is lacking in quality games and the ps vita launched with more games than the 3ds got in a whole year of release. I've seen the release list of games for the 3ds and it seems like there isn't a lot of quality core games coming where the ps vita has a lot.

The wii u has been announced over a year ago but people know little about it. There have been a few games announced for it. It was said to use only one tablet controller and use the inaccurate wiimotes for multiplayer local play. No new games demoed being played on the wii u.

The nes apologists are throwing up because of their constant spinning. I haven't seen people spinning like waitatation apologists since watching my neighbours dog chasing its tail. Nintendo is in disarray because of their constant back tracking to fix their bad decisions

ChickeyCantor5187d ago

I'm really starting to love your comments.

Knight_Cid5187d ago

Please dont agree with me because I dont agree with you.

Patcher ignores facts, and the state of affairs

Shok5187d ago

I handled everything you said in the other article.

Seriously man, you're either a troll or you really are just complety clueless.

If you're just trolling, then you fail ,ause you're not making anybody upset, we laugh at your comments. You're entertainment.

If you're just clueless then......your clueless.

Yodagamer5187d ago

here is a quote from you, " I like to play games cause I can't play sales numbers" why are you suddenly bring up sales now, and on top of that nintendo is the only game console company with no debt

Gregard5186d ago

y u can no have zero bubblez :(

Ck1x5186d ago

@Colwyn:- U may be the most delusional Sony fan imaginable! Lets point out all of the things u have quoted inaccurate.
"The 3ds is incomplete"- to say this means that there is not one great gaming experience on the 3ds without using the Circle Pad Pro. If u can honestly say this then that means that both the PS3 and 360 were incomplete systems before they came out with move and kinect respectively.
"The 3ds is lacking quality games!"- well this is just laughable on so many levels at this stage in the 3ds' life and with the games that are out now.
"I've seen the release list and PSV has more quality core games coming than 3ds!"- just wishful thinking really, nothing more...Quality
"The WiiU was announced over a year ago!"- I have to end this here because it just proves my point of the extent to which u will fabricate...

Don't forget kiddos, in this seventh generation of home video game consoles, The most powerful home console on the market today is in dead last place. The least powerful (two GCN duct taped together) is in first. All that matters is great software period. Who develops the best innovative software (and hardware) of all time? Who only is in the video game business? Bingo. Nintendo. They developed video games twenty years ago that are still extremely enjoyable today. You can't buy that.

fatstarr5186d ago

wii is dead we all know this, its been like 7 years of dominance and its still making sales of course its not gonna compare to year 2 but the sales of the wii now are still above the sales of the 360 and the ps3. and the 3 JRPGS are must haves that the fans have asked for.

Nintendo messed up on the pricing or did they? the circle pad is an optional addon and I hear it makes the 3ds comfy. the 3ds is not lacking games in fact it has tons coming. PSVs may have more games i guess who told you that but 75% of them are poor lackluster or just some form of port. there are 5 must have 3DS games coming that has everyone ready to spend money.

Have you never heard of E3 play your cards right. Nintendo is saving the good stuff for the battle at this years E3. patience is key.

Ness-Psi5185d ago

@colwyn

"Pachter... need I say more?"

The only thing in disarray here is Pachter's image and reputation! NOTHING he says has any relevance in 2012.

saladthieves5186d ago

Sometimes I wonder if Pachter is a Gaming Industry Troll, not Analyst.

mabreu5186d ago

Analyst like Patcher usually state the obvious to stock holders that have no knowledge in what's going on.

A troll is somebody who asks a question or make a comment that is made SPECIFICALLY to piss people off and cause flamewars. Patcher may fall into this category but it's mostly investors that want answers to their stupid questions.

mabreu5186d ago

@Knight_Cid

Your absolutely right. I posted this article to show that Michael Patcher is just as down to earth as any other guy. You have to take his words lightly as possible and not go crazy over it. He's not the Nostradamus of gaming.

Shok5187d ago

And he remains an idiot.

Mikhail5187d ago

Even though Patcher's analysis arw supported by trends, facts and statistics, he fails to consider other factors that constitute the entirety of the industry itself which are different to other industries. The video game industry has a niche market in it, always was and always will. Nintendo has a unique appeal to it wherein its games and gameplay set it apart from its competitors.

I understand his point that he needs to be precaution when he speaks because investors are looking at him for advise. But Nintendo has proven to be very strong as a company throughout troubling times and changing trends for the past decades. Patcher may be right but I am highly skeptical.

Knight_Cid5187d ago

hsi analysts arent supported by trends, facts or statistics.

DarkSniper5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

Michael Pachter has been around the gaming industry long enough to accurately depict any future trends of the industry. Dark Sniper definitely agrees with his statement about Nintendo being in disarray because they are.

Nintendo made the mistake of not making the Wii future proof for long term security. Now it seems as if they are hitting the reset button and finally giving gamers something that the other consoles have had since the mid 2000's, which is high definition gaming. Nintendo has also lost faith in many third party developers as their games always fail to sell on their platform. Leaving only Nintendo to cash in on their instiable greed by making their first party titles the only ones of any relevance.

The difference in power is minute. PlayStation®3 can and will outperform the Wii-U when it comes to pound for pound specs and features. Already sporting next genration graphics, Dark Sniper expects PS3 to beat Nintendo in their own gimmick as the PlayStation® Vita does exactly what the Wii-U controllers does and more.

Dark Sniper gives full credit to Michael Pachter for his incredible foresight into our industry. The Wii-U will be in trouble from launh because of Nintendo's lack of interaction from gamers. The name of the console itself sounds like a university college more than it does as a gaming console.

$niper

yabhero5186d ago

I'm curious... First of all don't compare the remote play of the Vita with its lags, less button and the fact it doesn't come with every system and the games aren't designed around it... You're the only troll who knows nothing about WiiU's power. The unfinished demo kits last year at E3 was 50% more powerful than PS3. It appears as thought the final kits will be 6 times as powerful according to reliable source IGN.
What we do know is that its atleast 50% more powerful and can do native 1080p which the PS3 can't
:) troll harder

yesmynameissumo5186d ago

"The unfinished demo kits last year at E3 was 50% more powerful than PS3."

All the more reason to show the PS3/360 trailers for the Wii-U version of the games like they did at E3. We know NOTHING about the Wii U. Other than current gen games will be available on it.

AJBACK2FRAG5186d ago

Did you say "reliable" source at IGN? Lol.
I think that if you made a video game system as powerful as the PS3 and made it easy to develop for you'd probably win the eigth generation of video game console's before it started!

Titanz5187d ago

All it takes is a google search to see which company actually is, "in disarray."

Hicken5186d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Being in debt is most assuredly not the same as being in disarray. Therefore, your comment in its entirety is irrelevant.

On topic, Pachter's projections don't sound too unreasonable. They may not be 100% accurate, but nor does he say anything with any certainty.

He says "I believe," and then instead of specifying a number, he says "a large portion." He says "I believe," and then says "many potential... customers..."

The Wii U IS a more core system than the Wii, so for that reason it will appeal to the same groups who might instead buy a PS3 or 360. And, indeed, if the price is too high, some will opt for one of the systems already released.

And, as much as I don't like the comparison of mobile gaming and dedicated handheld, it IS true that casual gamers that would have, in the past, grabbed a PSP or DS have the option of passing their successors up for a tablet or a smartphone. It's not what we gaming-savvy consumers would do, but the casual market is not comprised of gaming-savvy individuals.

I don't like listening to Pachter, because he usually just says something that has a 50/50 chance of being right, or he's so far off-base it's not even worth thinking about. But this time around, it actually sounds like he might know what he's talking about. From a gaming company standpoint, the potential position they could find themselves in could easily be called disarray.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

AuraAbjure63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer64d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot64d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno64d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay64d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno62d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK63d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
