Why Alan Wake could go console multi-format

Here are some reasons why Alan Wake could and perhaps should go console multi format, as it already has just dived into PC gamers hands, why no go the whole hog?

Why don't Xbox gamers buy their exclusives? This should've done better. I think they should bring it to the PS3 as well to get better sales /sarcasm (Sounds familiar though right?)

Joking aside, I would love to see PS3 gamers/more people in general get a crack at Alan Wake. It's a really good game.

Not if Microsoft buy Remedy it won't. But I am actually curious who owns this IP. I know it was planned for PS3 as well but Microsoft wanted to publish it. I know Epic is one of those rare cases where they own the IP and MS don't.

But regardless of how well this did, don't expect it to go on PS3 any time soon. If it was marketed properly it would have done a whole lot better than it did.

RaidensRising5202d ago

I think Remedy own the IP but Microsoft has the right to publish for X number of years. I could be wrong though.

When was the last time Microsoft bought a studio instead of closing one down?

OmegaSlayer5202d ago

The article totally makes sense.
Especially about the audience.
But I must say that devs that decide to go platform exclusive with a game have a sad destiny if they go multi.
One side will perceive them as traitors, the other side as enemies.
If you're a little dev and not big as EPIC games it's very risky to go exclusive.
Same error that CDProjekt is making, but at least they have Warner behind their back.

dgonza405202d ago

i dont think that's the case.
It didnt feel that way with bioshock or mass effect.
People just want to play good games.

"People just want to play good games."

So Im guessing you borrowed a friends log in and have never read this pro-sony site and the many psfans here worshiping thier exclusives like they are the second coming.

dgonza405200d ago (Edited 5200d ago )

^^^
the worshipping of games happens on both sides of the spectrum (PS3 and 360).
this website =/= the world.
and n4g used to be pro xbox... so i dont get what your point is. Your comment seems totally unrelated to the thread..

While a would support a multi-format release of Alan Wake it perhaps isn't so likely as the developers have probably moved on to other projects. I predict Alan Wake 2 on next gen consoles provided exclusivity isn't secured.

Granted Alan Wake wasn't the exclusive Microsoft expected it to be, it has a reasonable number of fans new and old that would buy a sequel. The gameplay is solid and I assume many (if not more) Xbox users played the game used. Sometimes new IP takes a couple of iterations for it to build a following. Dead Space for example was unappreciated despite besting Resident Evil 5 in every way. Alan Wake would probably find greater success being multiplat, however if its a future exclusive on a Microsoft console, I wouldn't rule it out as a potential success.

It will be interesting to learn how well Alan Wake's American Nightmare did sales wise.

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8768d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg180d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia768d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie768d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos768d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie768d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh768d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
