"Back in the early 2000’s, people around the age of 30 to 40 discovered the beauty of massive online gaming. It was a niche genre, like any genre dedicated to a mature, intelligent audience for that matter."

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."
"Everybody was happy, the kids were having fun playing with kids’ games, and the adults were having fun playing their MMOs."
What ?
Sure many of the STUPID Warcraft clones get all the attention as Pubs and Devs rushed out to clone WoW and thus bankrupt their companies after they FAILED.
But the MMO genre is alive and kicking so much so that it's the genre with all the new innovation so far along with action RTS games.
many MMo's have adapted the SP mixed with MP formula and have added "twitch Gaming" gameplay instead of using the "turn base" or "point n click" format. AND yes there are even FPS MMO's out there.
MMO's are just getting bigger and better and show NO signs of dying or collaspe as MMO's rake in more cash than anything now a days ass FPS have been done to death.
The Secret World, TERA Online, Guild Wars 2, Vindictus, Black Prophecy, Eve Online, Dragon Nest, Maple Story, Second Life, Aion, Planetside 2, firefall, End of Nations, etc etc are some really good ones that are out or coming out and yeh i'm sure i missed about 20 other great MMO's but it's just too many to mention.
like 2 new MMO's come out every week so there is NO shortage is genre and format.
MMO = there is one or two for everyone!
I have to agree with the article. No more death penalty. No more need to group. People getting to level cap in weeks. bah... waah - why can I get all the best stuff playing solo? not fair! my play-style!!!! No more depending of finding healer and tank - waah don't want to wait to find group with the right balance... It's the new American way - everybody must succeed equally so we lower the difficulty and reward mediocrity so nobody feels bad.
ofcourse a genre ruled by the crappy easy wow makes for a genre with no innovation because they want to copy the standard formula that wow made.
kudos to games like vindictus and tera for being different, so far vindictus is successful tho its new, and Tera isnt world wide yet so idk, but i hope its successful
The sad thing about this article is it makes a couple of valid points, but they are buried under a ton of whining and bitching, so much so that even though the points are valid you still come out feeling the guy is a crybaby and the article holds no validity.
If you are going to make an article like this at least back up your points with solid reasoning and evidence, not the "I hate WoW, it ruined the world and all of gaming so I'm going to bitch about it" with no maturity and nothing to substantiate what you're saying.
I do agree though that WoW may have been the catalyst that has caused many a gaming company to go bust. It's not WoW (well Blizzards) fault, it's those companies who thought they could steal WoWs thunder or ride on it's coat tails to success. Basically it was their own greed, pure and simple.
