Why Mass Effect Should Have an HBO Series

Unreality Mag writes: If you’re like me, you’re sitting around doing little else but counting down the days until April when Game of Thrones returns to HBO. The series made a huge impression in its debut season this year, and showed that despite the fact that the glory days of The Wire, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under are past, HBO still has it in them to create the best shows on television.

On a separate, but soon to be related note, I’ve been thinking about which video games are left that could actually make for fantastic feature films if adapted properly. There aren’t many, but above all else, Mass Effect has always come to mind. But combining the two thoughts, it occurred to me that the best place for a space opera would NOT be in a mere two hour feature, particularly not with a universe and cast as expansive as Mass Effect’s. And that’s why I firmly believe that HBO should consider a Mass Effect series as their next ambitious project.

This would really be more of a Syfy thing, but I don't know if they have another Battlestar Galactica in them.

HBO wouldn't be terribly likely to pick something like this up, it's not "gritty" enough. Mass Effect is very clean looking. It is also a bit too fantastical, because while there is "magic" in Game Of Thrones, it's subtle and treated somewhat realistically.

I love Syfy for it's B movies and such because they are so cheesy it's good but if you want an actual "good" series I don't think syfy is the answer lol

HBO my ass. Put it on FX!!!!!!!!

fluffydelusions5212d ago

AMC has been impressing me lately. Breaking bad, The walking dead etc.

DeadlyFire5212d ago

Ah yeah AMC as well would work. They are doing great with their shows. I like the whole 10 PM Drama series shows well most of them.

SyFy I believe would just cancel it at some point. Like Stargate. They got more control over it and ran it into the ground. BSG though made me watch Sci-Fi network. It was awesome. Sadly I don't think they can do it again with anything on the SyFy network.

Would Shepard assemble a team every episode? No thanks

I would go for this. I remember the Spawn series on HBO and it was kick ass.

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed

Like with Fallout, it's starting to feel studios are using TV / Film adaptations when they have no game info to talk about.

toxic-inferno200d ago

I feel the same way.

I mean, how difficult would it be for them to release SOMETHING of substance? Another short trailer? A couple of proper hints? A short story set during the original trilogy, but focused on fringe characters?

Hopefully they're working so hard on the game that they don't have time. But still, with every passing year and so little to show, the franchise will be slipping further and further from people's minds.

Profchaos199d ago

Yeah agree it's almost a cop out since Dev times are 5 to 10 years just throw out a few seasons instead you get them done in a year

jznrpg199d ago

I still haven’t beat Andromeda. I am waiting for a lull of good games in my backlog

P_Bomb199d ago

So the TV show will take place after the OG trilogy. I wonder which ending they’ll use?

Rebel_Scum199d ago

Should’ve just posted a picture of an Elcor saying “regretfully, we have nothing to share.”

Good games but no Phantasy Star?

merlox1095d ago

Why do people forget Phantasy Star? That is one of my favorite RPG series. Another ther good but overlooked series is ,Y's.

ES3 set things off, it's a shame they got greedy and decided to cut corners so the executives could get huge pay days.
