"Mass Effect 2 had a far kinder critical reception than it deserved. So, in preparation for the release of the demo for Mass Effect 3, I’m revisiting Mass Effect 2 in a four part series. The last post dealt with flaws in the design of the characters.
This post takes a look at some of the awful choices made in the construction of the game and its mechanics. We’ll follow up with a post examining the writing and concluding with the five worst elements of Mass Effect 2."

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

Thank god for this article. Thought I was on crazy pills when I saw ME2s metascore. There is so much wrong with the game. Even this article was insanely lenient on the linear mission design.
Don't get me wrong it's still a brilliant game. Just don't go rewarding mediocrity.
I love mass effect but no way in hell i'd give it a perfect score.
i dont care much about scores, but i think mass effect 2 was awesome.
Mass effect 2 was awesome but it wasn't much of an rpg. Mass effect 1 was better. It's like ME2 was rushed while development of SWTOR and Dragon Age was going on. N than you the choices I made in ME1 were shown in ME2. We got 5 minutes of Kaiden/ Ashley, Liara was an NPC except for DLC, Wrex was an NPC. You hear some stuff about Zhu's hope and the rachni. That's it. The council, if you save them, just brush you off and are practically thankless. UDina acts like a dick even if you pick him to be a councilor. The citadel was like 3 levels of a joke.
But I still enjoyed the f--k out of this game lol. Thank god Garrus and Tali were playable.
