20 terrible things from Mass Effect 2: the flawed writing

"No matter how many 100s Mass Effect 2 received from the gaming press, it was a deeply flawed game. This post examines the abominable writing.

To prepare for the release of the demo for Mass Effect 3, I’m revisiting Mass Effect 2 in a four part series. The first post was about the awful characters. The second was a look at troubling choices in the game design.

Let’s examine 20 instances of the terrible writing in Mass Effect 2. The series will then conclude with the five worst elements of the game."

Love the game, but still, these are all valid points.

So if a Reaper fed on Husks made from Space Nazis. Then you'd end up with a Synthetic Zombie Reaper Space Nazi!

You'll need a Godwin gun to beat one of them.

Blues Cowboy5220d ago

Agreed. The writing also botched ME2's only major twists (the Prothean's real identity) by handling it as a throwaway radio conversation rather than the climax to the entire game!

Blacktric5219d ago

They never revealed the real identity of Protheans. They just revealed their fate after Reapers destroyed their civilization. That's all. Their true identities will be revealed in Mass Effect 3.

Nice to see this game get something bad said about because ppl act like it is the second coming of Jesus

Blacktric5219d ago

You mean like GTA IV? Gran Turismo 5? Uncharted 2-3? Gears Of War 3? Where were you when people were acting like those games were the best thing ever since sliced bread? No one is treating Mass Effect 3 like it's the second coming of Jesus. Hell, there aren't any ad campaigns going around yet. Unlike what Epic and Microsoft did with Gears Of War 3...

Only after ME2's hype does it get picked on. ME2 is my fav' of the three.

anast529d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine529d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast529d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman529d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast529d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave777d ago (Edited 777d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
