no n64? it had the greatest games, perfect dark, goldeneye, zelda ocarina of time, wtf? and 360 is in there and the console war isn't even at half-way yet? oh wait, i just read number 10, lol it has 360 fanboy written all over it. the reason is he wrote that 360 is going to win the console war when the console war hasn't reached half-way yet, and he's already jumping to conclusions, it's opinion but fanboy opinion is worse. i guess this list isn't worth reading, don't waste your time.

Oh so I see. Its based on games available on the system. In that case Yeah the PS2 is number one. Im surprised the Sega Dreamcast beat out the Xbox 360 but Im not sure how many games was released on it. Either way it was risky puting the 360 in the list because of the RroD

i dont think the Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance, and the Gameboy Color... all need to be on there .. u can take one of them off the list .. and replace it .... N64 for example.. or a different system ... im actually dissapointed the Atari 2600 is not on the list

Eh, the N64 was just ok, it couldn't ever stand up to the awesomeness of the ps1. Yesh it had a handful of good games, but it couldn't match the variety and quality of the ps1 library of games.

And guys lets be honest, if the dreamcast was so awesome it would have stuck around. The truth is, after the genesis (one of my personal fav consoles) Sega's systems sucked ass.

right....sept a good 80% of n64 games we're awesome and of high quality...where as only about 20-30% if that of ps1 games we're good there was what 3000 games released for that system? lol every one was throwing crap at the wall and seeing what would stick.

The n64 was capable of more powerful, and better every thing then the ps1...I've yet to see sept 1 or 2 games graphical reach the quality of the n64's best.

And if the dreamcast sucked why is it still regarded as great? you obviously dont know much about life, just because something is great doesn't mean it will last, the dreamcast had nill advertising or bad advertising and sega made money mistake after money mistake but that doesn't mean its games. weren't good and or the system sucked.

Yep, and notice the jabs at the PS3 as well. Why are these "reviewers" so defensive about the 360? It doesn't belong in the top 10, no question about it.

but then should we say the same about PS2 and it's DREs in the beginning of it's life cycle? It was all up to the person who wrote the article. I'm guessing he disregarded the RROD the same way he might have disregarded the PS2's DRE???

ps1....massive laser problems at the start, gave birth to the techniqe of turning your system on its side or upside down to get the thing to read disks...useless ports that we're phased out within 3 revisions of the console and those ports we're never used except by cheat devices and pirates.

Ps2-birth of the DRE around 50,000+ faulty lasers we're recalled one year, bad lasers and DRE problems we're a constant up untill about its 3rd-4th year, A bunch of useless ports that were hardly used by any one, and thus phased out within what 2-3 generations....you had to buy the freaking modem and then it was later added in as a requirement...hmmmm

YEp we all know every thing sony makes is perfect...yep yep.

Heck I had to send in my ps2 three times, yet I didn't give a crap. All I knew was that I was getting it back in time to play Final Fantasy 10 and Devil May Cry. The ps2 had the best games last generation by far, but so many gamers like to criticize the 360's problems while not recognizing the ps2's own. But then again in similar fashion, the games on the 360 speak for themselves as did the ps2's.

I agree with their list.A great console should have a AAA game in every genres and the the 10 ten have them covered.

sorry but i don't believe the N64 should be there.Yes it had great games like GOLDEN EYE,PERFECT DARK and so on but it had no good racing game or fighting game to take on the stellar titles on the PS1(if you remember the 2 most important genres back then).It even lacked a lot of good sports game.

Basically the ones that NINTENDO made were fantastic,but the rest were below average.

Super Mario 64 practically gave birth to 3-d platform gaming, and the highest rated game of all time is still exclusive to N64; The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Than we have memorable wrestling games, No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000. The birth of Smash Bros. And this is just to counter your "fighting game" category. I'm not keen on racing games for the 64 so maybe somebody else could answer that.

I would have to agree with most of the list. The reason why the N64 is not on there is becuase of the description of why they named the consoles that are on therer, mainly becase of the gaming library. N64 was great. Hell I had Mario 64, WaveRace and arguably one of the best shooters to date "Golden Eye". With that said. Ninty kind of deserted ther fans, games were $49 to $69 way back then, etc. It was innovative with the contoller that made what controllers today. I understand why some of you want to see it on the list.

Respect is EARNED. Ok minus 360 and DS. We need NES top 5. N64 number 6 (Mario 64 and Ocarina? shame on mr. columnist). Dreamcast 10. Gametrailers has the real top 10. Revolutionary games and true classics (see IGN list) are required to chart. Wii, PS3, and 360 are just getting started.

laughable ... No N64 is laughable. Did I mention that 360 at 10 is laughable. Console is 2 years old. It has not proven anything. Its an absolute failure in Japan. Its overall a failure in Europe with only markets like NA and UK holding it afloat. I don't question the quality of the titles available. I do question the viability and the relevancy of the console in the next 3 years.

I never considered portables to be consoles, but whatever. N64 was an excellent system but got overshadowed by the new and improved CD based consoles. Too bad the load times on the PS1 sucked monkey nutts. I would have loved to see Turbo Graphix 16/w CD on there. The author couldn't figure out why the Dreamcast failed...piracy. You could buy a DC game and burn it and it would play perfectly on any DC system. Sometimes the disk would work and would require a boot disk. Hands down the easiest system to pirate on. This dude put the 360 on the list and says the rrod is a thing of the past, what fantasy world does he live on? Thank goodness this list is opinionated.

agree about the Dreamcast. The reason given by a lot of journalists for it failing was 3rd party support, or lack of it.

Well its one thing what the journalist say and something what the consumer says. Journalist aren't the gospel. Majority of the people I know that owned DC had all burn copies. They would just go to Blockbuster and rent the games then copy them. While stationed in Korea...dudes would buy the games for $5 each downtown. Hell those guys hardly made money to because people would buy the game from them and then copy the games for their friends. Dreamcast was hands down my favorite system but that system was to easy to pirate.

I agree that the ps2 should be number one but where is N64?? Like what comment 20 said it changed analog control to this very day. But they should have replaced the 360 with something more classic because that console is only 2 years old, but don't get me wrong I really like the 360.

I agree with the list mostly, i just don't think that some of the handhelds belong on there; like they could take out the gba and gbc, and move up the sega dc(w00t) and insert the ps1 and the n64

It's funny how he has GBC instead of GB and then includes both DS and GBA. The Advance was a joke system anyway, who in their right mind suffers through Mario World with 3 buttons? Plus who could be bothered using it through their GameCube - its a stretch to assume consumers owned one of those two consoles but both? No-one had both. And no-one had friends who owned a GBA either. No-one who owned a GBA had friends.

I'm going to strike it off that list and put the N64 in there instead, because it was awesome. Then I'm going to move it to the number 2 spot, shunt the SNES back to number 6 behind the MegaDrive where it belongs, swap the PS1 and PS2 around, bring the Dreamcast up a few places..

well heres my list

5 - gameboy color - to play the gameboy games in color for the first time was awsome back then
4 - nes- my first home console mario zelda sold that system
3 - snes- better graphics for zelda and mario
2- n64 - nothig could beat mario 64 turok and goldeneyeand ocarina of time
1- its a tie between ps1 and ps2

and in a few years the ps3 will be at top

I think that the 360,wii, ps3, psp, and the ds should not be qualified for the top 10 best consoles ever until the next gen of those consoles arrive because too much crap could happen before then. So making a list and including any of these is kind of saying they have already won and that's ridiculous.

No current gen console should be on that list. I don't care if it's Wii, PS3, or 360, none should be on that list.

360 has good games, yes, but it's been out 2 years, you cant tell if it'll rise to the level of greatness in the rest of it's life.

360 should be taken out and N64 should be put in at #6, with NES at #5 and everything below 6 moved down one.

NES saved the games industry from the infamous Crash.

N64 defined 3-D games with Mario 64 and gave birth to the STILL highest rated game of all time, Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Honestly, I mean, I know opinions can't be wrong, but they can still suck, and this guy's sucks.
