Nintendo finally understands that they need a cohesive online gaming network.

But is the recently announced Nintendo Network too little too late?

I like the idea of the Nintendo Network. I just think that it should have come out over 5 years ago...

They're going to be so behind every other company online wise. But like the story says, at least it's a step in the right direction. It's certainly better than nothing.

Shok5271d ago

No such thing as "too late". Like the saying says, "better late than never."

Did any of you read the comments on IGN's Nintendo Network article? People were complaining about it. So basically:

- People complain about Nintendo not having a network.

- Nintendo makes a network

- People complain about Nintendo making a network.

It just doesn't make any sense lol.

TheSleepyGamer5271d ago

Life is full of hypocrites - the gaming community more so.

A sad truth.

Shok5271d ago

People should just be happy that they're finally getting it together.

If Microsoft made XBL free next gen, why would I scold them, saying they're too late or "welcome to 2006"? I should just be happy that I no longer have to pay for the damn thing.

When you ask for something and finally get it, be grateful for it.

TheSleepyGamer5271d ago

I wasn't personally complaining.

But there is such a thing as too late. You don't call an ambulance when someone has been dead for a week.

pat_11_55271d ago

What I'm wondering is if it's even possible for them to catch up at this point.

Knight_Cid5271d ago

There is no such thing as too late.

The virtual console sold the most old games of any network this gen

You add those games, more games, dlc, and nintendo can build a country of money

TheDivine5271d ago

They said they have features another company doesnt so im hoping for custom soundtracks and cross game chat on wii-u and maybe a messaging system and custom music on 3ds. They really need to have some trophy system for the 3ds tied into the network. I want to get coins or stars (trophies) for zelda oot. It prob wont be perfect at the start but its a step in the right direction and i cant wait to see how nintendo does it. They will prob have something creative that the other systems dont.

Still wondering why I am paying for Nintendo Online... It offers nothing...

Sm00thNinja2762d ago

Absolutely no reason. I bought it for Smash and its virtually unplayable.

Teflon022762d ago

I was thinking of doing it for smash but then I was like, I need to see how others experiences are. From what I get from people in general with the service is that the online gives people more trouble now than it did when it was free. Also this doesn't help. 2 day maintenance is dumb. I get a few hours in a day. but 2 days is extreme

Sm00thNinja2762d ago

Some matches are fine. Anything with more than 2 players has a tendency to be a slideshow for me. Hopefully others are having a better experience but it's by no means perfect! Anyone disagreeing is simply a shill. P2P for Smash is unacceptable

PhantomS422762d ago

You need better internet then. I've experienced just as much lag as any other online game. Occasionally but a majority of the time matches are fine.

Sm00thNinja2762d ago

@Phantom yeah I find that hard to believe when you're the minority. I get 300 down. The fact that you said j need better internet tells the whole story .... Smash is the kind of game where any lag is game breaking especially if you play a character that relies on timing like Sonic or Bayonetta. Also it's P2P it doesn't always rely on my "internet" to determine lag or disconnects. Somehow you've connected to GOLDEN 1 GIG down users every match. I find that hard to believe and easier to believe you're just not being truthful.

Two days? That's unusual, it's usually just a few hours. I wonder if they're adding anything.

XxSPIDEYxX2762d ago

While I'm disappointed in the quality of the service, especially how Smash Bros runs online, it's nice to see that Nintendos making an effort to improve it.

Why the Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Be a Fine Balancing Act

Game Rant's Rob Gordon writes: "With Nintendo offering a paid-for online service with the release of the Switch, we look at what the company needs to do to be able to offer up a competitive service for users."

Balancing act?
Pfft. They have to be able to stand straight on the highwire before balancing acts can even come into play.

Nintendo's got a loooooooot of things to fix with their online.
Having free games, chat, and lobbies, are all good things, but the way Nintendo's implementing them is just so damned DUMB.
I get that they're new to this, but I think they need to stop listening to whoever keeps telling them this is what Nintendo's fans want, let alone gamers in general
Heck, >I< know what gamers want better than Nintendo, and I'm a NOBODY by comparison.

PGRfox3454d ago

Using your phone for most multiplayer features, including voice chat and rumored lobbies running from an app, is NOT balanced. Its stupidity.

MrMoe3454d ago

I was a console gamer too, then they wanted to charge me to play online...

fllysurfer3454d ago

A game you can have for a month… wtf is that?
