going digital is the best thing for Remedy.they could rack up some profit without all the crazy middleman fees/having to sell millions of copies.

I would have liked to have seen Alan Wake in an episodic format. Is was all ready to go, it was a risk but i think it could have really worked for them.

LOL. No. Alan Wake is one of the 360s premier titles. Alan Wake should have been released for the PC, 360 and PS3 at the same time, NOT reduced to a D/L title. Its sad if you ask me, its definitely NOT a good thing. Personally this is one title I believe would have sold better on the PC/PS3 than the 360.

Given that the last game was a bit of a flop, I think DL makes good sense.

MariaHelFutura5145d ago (Edited 5145d ago )

OK.... Ill just reverse my comment a bit. I'm glad it stayed a 360 exclusive. This the best thing ever that one of the best 360 titles is becoming a episodic D/L title, this the route all developers should go. I hope 4za becomes episodic D/L title aswell in the future, it would be the best thing for the series in the long run. Game are better and more fulfilling in small portions. They should just cancel the PC version cause it won't sell and PS3 gamers would hate this game.

Better?

@mariahelfutura

Nobody I know buys episodic DLC. It's a waste of time and money. by the second episode everyone forgets that the game even exists.

Ducky5145d ago (Edited 5145d ago )

^ True dat.

Just look at HalfLife2. By the 2nd episode, even Valve forgot about its existence.
:D

Finally some people w/ some common sense arrived. Alan Wake was a great game and doesn't deserve this.

Alan Wake released only digital? I'm fine with that but in episodic format eww no. Give me the full game at a reasonable price. Then if their is some kind of nice expansion slap a little price tag on it nothing huge and we are golden.

Fishy Fingers5145d ago

They've countered any potential risks by doing what any self respecting developer would have.... Made it more of a shooter.

Genius' at work...

IronFistChinMi5145d ago

This is just a spin-off, AW2 will go back to the original formula.

maniacmayhem5145d ago

I think it could work if done right. I loved how the original game was set up in episodes and showed what happened and what was next like a real show complete with real music.

Lets just hope the gameplay is a bit more varied than the original.

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8681d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg93d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto680d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia681d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger681d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie681d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos681d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie681d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh681d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
