Seven Arab game developers to look out for

MEG: "While most of us look in the direction of America, Europe and Japan for quality games, little do we know that video game development in the Middle East is a burgeoning industry with a promising future. Arab companies throughout the region are working hard to establish a Middle Eastern market for game development, and one that produces games with their own Middle Eastern qualities and identities.

So if you are interested in exploring game development in the Middle East, enter the field of video game development yourself, or simply play games with their own Middle Easter flavor, then this article might be your guide for doing so."

Unearthed looks worse than Amy and that's how bad it looks. I'm looking forward to the reviews.

It's nice to see more game developers being set up in different regions of the world - I'm hoping they bring they more unique games + creativity to the industry.

I am never supporting that horrible game called Unearthed.

Total copy of Uncharted.

GamersRulz5229d ago

I will support those devs, I'm not expecting ND or EPIC games quality here, I admire trying to support the hobby that you love in spite of all the obstacles in front of you, they have inferior tech, small teams, small budget and no advertising and they still try hard for their voices to be heard.

New cultures and experiences may create new genres in gaming, just like Japan Anime or US FPS, its a win-win situation for everyone, we need to support this.

Fishy Fingers5229d ago

Totally right in what you say, but there's no reason they should have "inferior tech", when they could quite easily licence a copy of UE3 or CE3 and basically have cutting edge tech at reasonably low prices (especially in the case of UE3).

To be honest I didn't know there were arab developers. I wouldn't mind trying the games to see what their like.

Hueynewton20125229d ago

Not buying or even trying anything they make. Unearthed????!!!! There was actually a gameplay video of this about a year ago. It was a total rip off of uncharted and poor one to say the least. What they should do is start making gorilla warfare games or Civilization sim style games based on radical Islamic regimes, civil war, terrorism and natural resource hoarding.

The player can create a democratic non Islamic extremist society while utilizing oil resources to create jobs to reduce economic despair, terrorism and famine. The player can also attempt to create a democratic society and hold free elections so innocent citizens who strive for fairness can have an opportunity to vote for their leaders.

There you go, there is a arab made game i would possibly purchase and play.

While the idea you posted sounds good I don't think that they should do it just because they are arab. I mean the same thing can be said about China and yet you don't say (I wont play a chinese made game unless its about this).

You have to understand that there is a difference between mechanics and content. Tomb Raider is an action adventure game with shooting and climbing about a female arechologist looking for artifacts relating to Atlantis. Uncharted is about a young treasure hunter looking for things relating to Sir Francis Drake. Unearthed is about an Arab adventurer (with his archologist sister) looking for something related to famous Muslim explorer (Ibn Battuta).

Unless Unearthed turns out to be about Sir Francis Drake in the end, I don't see how it is a ripoff of Uncharted in anyway (genres and mechanics cannot be copyrighted, Gears of War and its hundreds of clones say hi)

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing19d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit19d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing19d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
