10 Things That Will Make PS4 A Better Console Than PS3

"Speculation is the veritable spice of gaming journalism and, with everyone getting their knickers in a twist about the future generation of gaming, it seems like a good time to assume the crap out of the PS4. If anyone with affiliations to Sony winds up reading this, take note of how to do things right this time for, while the PS3 has done a stand up job this generation, it certainly had a rocky start that we want the PS4 to avoid."

of controller, I know a lot of people love the dualshock so They shouldn't change that but a larger Pad for people with larger hands like myself would be nice. The dualshock hurts my hands after about half an hour

lorianguy5279d ago (Edited 5279d ago )

2 different models? That would be good.

So long as one of them IS the original dualshock still. I love that thing!

Jack_n_Hoff5279d ago

Let me guess, you prefer the 360 controller, even though it is the exact same size?

Biggest5279d ago

No way, bro! The 360 controller is made for people with big hands. But by made for big hands I mean the same size as the PS3 controller.

It's going to be hard to make the PS4 a better console than the PS3. They'd have to introduce a brand new media format that trumps BluRay in the way BluRay trumps DVD and HD-DVD. They'll have to make brand new games that trump the Uncharted, Resistance, and Killzone series. They have to be bigger, faster, and stronger in all of the other features. That will be damn near impossible in the near future.

AgentWD405279d ago

Is that a problem, They are far from the same size my friend. Like I said I am not asking for the Dualshock to be replaced as I no people like it I just want another option or even allow for the 360 pad to be used on the ps4 like its used on PC ?

blumatt5279d ago (Edited 5279d ago )

Sorry to burst your bubble. (No pun intended) The PS4 will NOT use a new standard of disc media. It will continue to use BluRay, albeit a much larger capacity somewhere in the range of 100GB+. They will increase the capacity to around 100GB and increase the read speed to around 8X or 16X.

And I think the controller is fine the way it is, minus a couple of things they could do like concave analog sticks and better triggers. But, size-wise, I don't have a problem with it--and I have huge hands. Offering an optional larger DualShock would be a good idea though, for those people who absolutely need one.

Rageanitus5279d ago

the ps3 controller is fine by itself...

I find it much easier to do quicker button mashing actions vs the xbox controller. I was just entering redmeption codes yesterday on my ps3 and xbox yesterday and it was MUCH quicker and more responsive vs the 360. Yes I tried both the dpad and analog stick on the 360 and found it more cumbersme.

The only thing needed on the next controler is to fix the l2 and r2 triggers (curve them a bit)

In the end the xbox controller may feel more solid, but it feels much more restrictive.

AgentWD405279d ago

So there is no right answer, I prefer the 360 controller as its suited to my hands better.

D3mons0ul5279d ago

That's not a bad idea. How about more color variations for the system and controllers too?

Why is the Silver PS3 exclusive to Japan? Can anybody answer that for me? Why not other colors too? Like the gamecube?

I mean, they could sell the standard black, white and silvers in the retail stores but keep a catalog of the multicolored ones for people to order online.

Are people still into colors?

lorianguy5279d ago

At least we get coloured controllers :)

sikbeta5279d ago

1· Affordable Price, no $599 US DOLLARz anymore
2· Complete BC = PS1 + PS2 + PS3
3· Dualshock Redesign, at least Real Triggers
4· A Launch Line-up good enough to justify a purchase, SCE can do it as they own loads of First Party Devs, not a "PS3 haz no gamez" situation again, ever
5· HW capable of integrate new features in the future, not like the PS3 that can't have XGC even if it's the most requested feature in PSBlog-Share

These are 5, but they're the more important imho...

SweatyFlorida5279d ago (Edited 5279d ago )

I hope they make 2 models for the Ps4 at launch. One with BC, and one without it. That way, people can save money if they have a Ps3 already. If Sony is still going the tech heavy route, then price should range from $350-450 depending on how much power they added, any new tech they added, and if it's BC or not.

Your number 5 makes no sense. Consoles WON'T become upgradeable thus you CAN'T add new tech into the console or add any tech already in the system down the road (like Ram/memory/SPU's). XGC will most definitely be in Ps4 if it's in the Vita.

gunnerforlife5279d ago

@sweatyFlorida

i think he means have enough RAM on PS4 so that you give it new features via FirmWare, seeing as ive read thats the only reason PS3 dont have XGC because it dont have enough RAM, not sure though.

Tonester9255279d ago

I think they should make the Dualshock controllers more sturdy. I've had my Xbox and PS3 controllers from launch. Xbox still works perfectly.

PS3 Trigger buttons get stuck, Had to fix analog sticks, D-Pad button only registers the up button when I press down and my rubber skins of the analog sticks are off.

Also the freezing problem on the internet browser has to go. Google Chrome Please!

MORE RAM

gunnerforlife5279d ago

ive bought 5 ps3 controllers, 4 sixaxis and 1 dual-shock and the dual-shock has lasted me 3 years

lionelglitchy5279d ago

perhaps sony might make a tablet type controller, but that would be copying nintendo and sony never do that

lionelglitchy5279d ago

really the ps4 will be better then the ps3 what a surprise

nix5279d ago

all signs of end of the world.

EliteDave935279d ago (Edited 5279d ago )

Enough with these stupid articles already! lets just enjoy our PS3s and 360s and let Sony Work on PS4 its going to be good without your stupid articles! PS3 and 360 still has a long life left.

Brownghost5278d ago

Exactly, people should stop shinning about wanting better graphics since great games are out now and more coming out. Developers are already used to the consoles and more great games are coming out

cedaridge5279d ago (Edited 5279d ago )

Hmmm! Lets see! PS4 will crap on the ps3. Uncharted 4 will dump on uncharted 3. MLb the show series on the ps4 will look like u just got POP in the head. Kratos bangin a woman will look like a porno flick. That alone will make ps4 a better console. NOW! CAN I GET A HELL YEAH STONE COLD style? lol psn: cedaridge / xbl: cedaridge

D3mons0ul5279d ago (Edited 5279d ago )

All of these things will probably be implemented anyway. If you're going to make a PS4 wishlist article, raise the bar a bit.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle68d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn269d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn269d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown69d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay69d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay69d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac68d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger69d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300069d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde69d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde69d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy75d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.
