If the developer had to manually create the voice recognition software themselves, it might require processing power that reduces other parts of the game, or the recognition might not even be that accurate. If you used Kinect, then you would know it's voice recognition capability is top class.

Wow, I guess nobody played Socom back in the day. I loved that feature of the game and was surprised how well it worked(especially back then ON PS2 BY THE WAY). That was one feature I really wanted in Socom 4. "Fireteam get down", or "Bravo fire at will". Man, that brought back some memories..haha..Thanks man. Only one can dream if voice commands come back to Socom or any tactical squad base shooter ONLY USING MICS.

I just ignore the squad commands as your squad is fairly useless anyway. In ME1 the only command I would give it to tell my squad to go hide behind something so they don't die while I take out the bad guys.

I understand what you mean, because going to the "wheel" to select what powers should be used is essentially pausing the gameplay but telling your squad to go to cover is a button press on the controller

And i agree the teammates are extremly useful in ME 1 & 2 especially on the harder difficulties.

But after hours of gameplay it would be repetitive to have said "Liara Singularity" for the 500th time....and im not quite a fan of voicing the dialog tree when Shepard will say something different anyway, it would be better if you said Shepards lines and the characters respond to you.

IMO it would be a more immersive experience if you werent using the controller at all then talking to your squad would make perfect sense

That's the thing, though, I tended to have to pause the game at the same time as I needed to hand out commands. Especially since most of the time I was using two at once.

Doing it in real time isn't bad, but I'm more likely to have to pause the game to give myself an easier time at targeting and queuing multiple squad abilities at once.

At least that was my experience. I can see some general use of it when switching between ammo abilities or small combat scenarios where I'm not relying much on my squad in the first place, but on the majority of combat scenarios, I'm not sure I wouldn't need to pause the game.

This may have changed in ME3, though, if they've made it so that combat lines up with the use of voice commands instead of pausing to activate abilities.

binary domain is doing voice commands and uses a headset. Other games have done it in the past aswell, i believe socom had it in the ps2 days not entirely sure though.

If not, you might have to reduce other parts of the game to accomodate voice recognition done in software on the console CPU.

With Kinect, it's built in and streamlined.

Furthermore, I don't believe for one second that Sony can deliver, when they haven't even delivered standard VOIP. Just look at BF3 VOIP issues that only plagues the PS3 version....

Voice processing is far from intensive. The majority of Kinect's processing is in the image capturing and analysis. And ME3 won't be pushing the hardware anywhere as much as to require any reduction in capabilities. ME2 on the PS3 proved this.

You do know that VoIP is standard in the Sony SDK, right? Otherwise I'm wondering how I am able to talk to all those people online, let alone via my Web camera.

What you're talking about is custom cross-game chat, which requires that VoIP be on the PS3 as an added function since you're managing chat outside of the game but on the OS an in line with your friend's list. Two completely separate things.

Not having cross-game chat is far from the same as voice recognition. Far from.

Seriously, voice recognition on ME3 is just to try and sell Kinect in a different way. It's completely possible, without noticeably reducing any other element of the game, on any other HD platform (PC and PS3).

I mean, honestly, if it wasn't done just to sell Kinect as a feature, why isn't it an option on the PC at the least? There's no question whether a PC can handle this, based on your thinking, _intensive_ processing compared to any HD console at the moment.

They did. Endwar also had it, but they used it on their own without the SDK.
