This represented a significant step in the direction of a digital only future for games and other entertainment media, or so Kaz Hirai and the rest of Sony hoped. In reality, the PSP Go only served to show the word that we are not ready for a digital only future just yet, or if we as consumers even want one, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be at some stage."

Well digital is great. I personally have over 200 games with Steam, most of them were bought very cheaply. Due to the PC platsforms BC i get to keep all of them for a very very long time. I am currently shifting home, i dont have to worry about shifting 200 odd boxes. While this is all good in the PC market. I would think this is also due to the fact we have alot of competition in the PC digital market of the top of my head Steam, D2D, Gamersgate, GOG, GFWL, Origin, all of these constantly give discounts to promote the prices of digital games on the PC.
On consoles however i do see digital only as a gloomy future, which will further place further control in the hands of the console makers (which really isnt a good thing), already they completely control the machines. If consoles were to go digital, it would mean Sony would hold complete sales control on PSN and MS would hold complete control for XBL with no one else to compete on those networks. MS and Sony might as well set prices and not bother with discounts since there wont be anyone competing with them. Hence i personally dont like a digital only future for consoles.
For a home console digital only is a no go.
For handhelds I'd say yea. In fact I'd even go as far as to say we need a cloud based handheld console. It would make gaming on the go so much more convenient. I was hoping the Vita would go this route.
