IGN: A Beginner's Guide to Final Fantasy

Ryan Clements: Trying something new takes courage of various quantities. Taking the plunge into a new cuisine or hobby always comes with a mote of nervous excitement. The same holds true for video games. We all know what we like so departing from those norms could mean wasted time and money. Fortunately, despite Final Fantasy's 25-year history, you can get started without much trouble.

Allow me, a long-time Final Fantasy enthusiast, to help you try your hand at a legendary Japanese RPG series enjoyed (and hated) across the world.

Haven't read it yet, but GamePro did one of these recently that I read at the airport last month, too. It was awful. I hope this one's better. Ryan is usually good at what he does, so I have hope.

"But for a beautiful game with a stellar combat system, give Final Fantasy XIII a spin."

I lost hope when I read this nonsense.

Stellar combat system....yeah mashing the X button and relying on luck is amazing /s

I'm guessing letting the battles play for you is the future I suppose <sigh>

The battle system is really great.
It just basic at the beginning then it gets much better.
Though it should from the start.

Godmars2905254d ago

And it only takes twenty plus hours before you're allowed to really and begin to explore it.

@dark-hollow

you cant say the battle system is really great because you unlock more options to it later in the game, when you dont have to use any of those options at all to beat any of the fights you have.
You can play thru the entire game easily without changing anything and clicking auto, you dont even have to change the paradigms you just leave them all on default.
Imo if the battle system was great it would make you HAVE to choose and make strategic choices to actually win some fights.
I think the fact they left turn-based behind and went with a real time sort of thing is what makes then choose to make the fighting so easy now, if you dont have time to make a plan then whats the point in making you.

i said this there but ign does not know anything about anything

no mention of tactics? no mention of revant wings? no mention of any of the side games is not right

jthamind5254d ago

they called it a beginner's guide for a reason.

Slade5254d ago

thats not even a beginners guide

Damn! Gg to Square Enix and Hasbro 🫨.

Chevalier310d ago

I think if helped they the prices for all these products were extremely high at launch. Like no other cross over had prices these high. LotR for example weren't even close to FF MTG prices

TheColbertinator311d ago

Those cards had awesome designs. I can see why they hit the market hard.

enkiduxiv311d ago

And to think, no one wants to buy the games anymore…

Michiel1989311d ago
