What is Retro Studios Working On?

Two years is a long time for a major studio to stay quiet. Though it worked on some of the tracks for Mario Kart 7, Retro Studios has not shipped a major project since Donkey Kong Country Returns at the end of 2010. Since then, the company has been quiet, very quiet, without a single announced project that would require the full resources of the company. With a new Nintendo console on the way, the time seems right for Retro to once again showcase its ability to carry major Nintendo brands, this time in HD. Of course, there's also a certain rookie 3D portable that's just finding its legs - and dominating the handheld market.

ndl15315222d ago

metroid prime 3ds would be cool

phantomexe5221d ago (Edited 5221d ago )

I bet ya it's Eternal Darkness or Metroid. I think about everone would just soon see Retro make Metroid as team ninja. Still tho i think it's Eternal Darkness because it lets them do something differnt and that's kind of what they wanted but who knows.

what ever it is I'm sure it will be good.

Review: Metroid Prime 4 Beyond On Switch 2 | Digital Foundry

Retro Studios has built incredible atmosphere, puzzle-solving and environmental diversity. Based on the length of the development cycle, we must assume it's designed primarily around the limits of Switch 1 (we have yet to see that version of the game) so the strategy for Switch 2 is seemingly to supercharge a good-looking game to run and feel even better.

Benn waiting on this game for a lonnnng time.

repsahj149d ago

Yes! And they said that MP4 has top notch HDR effects, if you have a capable Display like OLED or MiniLED.

Neonridr148d ago

man this review makes me so hyped for the game now. Really happy with the overall presentation here. Now I'm debating running the game in performance mode since it looks like only the resolution takes a hit while everything else remains the same. 120fps is tempting.

repsahj148d ago

I will try first the quality then maybe I will use performance after I unlocked the hardest difficulty.

badz149148d ago

so...it's not 4K60Hz haha. they didn't even mention 1440p which makes this a false advertisement.

repsahj148d ago

How did it become false advertising? The game is still being displayed as 4k @ 60 right? They didn't say anything about "NATIVE" 4k @ 60.

Even Naughty Dog said that The Last of Us part 1 is 4k@60 performance mode even though it's also 1440P upscaled, right?

Neonridr146d ago

they never said Native 4K. I guess no PS5 title is 4K either then.

not too bright are you there skippy.

badz149138d ago

GT7 is native 4K and so are many sports games. What do you mean none?

Neonridr137d ago

@badz149 - and GT7 is also a cross-gen title. What 1st party Sony title has hit 4K native since?

Gamersunite880148d ago

Tomorrow! It's almost here! After such a long wait!

repsahj148d ago

My copy arrived earlier today together with my pre ordered AC Shadows that got delayed 2 days as expected delivery! Now I don't know what to play at first, but decided to finish MP4 first.

Gamersunite880148d ago

That's awesome! Prime 4 has been my most anticipated game for years and it's finally out. I can't wait to tear into it.

Metroid Prime Dev "Let Down" As Original Credits Excluded From Remaster

Currently, the original developers are credited via a generic slate.

It's safe to say that it's the original developers who conceptualised and built these games in such a way that they're worthy of a remaster or remake today. Even if they had nothing to do with the new iteration, the dev team behind a remaster would be nowhere without the original vision – and so, the original dev team deserves a place in the credits of a remaster. That's exactly how former Retro studios engineer Zoid Kirsch feels.

Based on the work of the original development team.

That's pretty low..

Double_O_Revan1173d ago

Depending on how long the credits are for the current team, I can see why it would be decided not to essentially double that.

Welshy1173d ago (Edited 1173d ago )

How long or short credits are is irrelevant. Every man or woman who put their time into the creation of anything (tv, movies, animation etc too) should have their names stamped on it, no excuses.

Noone realistically sits and reads every name and actually thanks them, but it's important to the people involved to have it there for what small validation or thanks it brings them. A little thing they can show their friends and family for years to come and feel proud to have contributed to. Kind of like seeing your face for 1 frame in the crowd on TV at a football match and having your own little stamp to show you were there.

Welshy1173d ago

Without those original devs, there is no beloved game to remaster and put new names on. Disappointing Nintendo, do the right thing and patch it in.
