Xbox Live user traces account hacker

An Xbox Live user whose account was compromised and used to purchase thousands of Microsoft Points has identified the hacker involved, and discovered websites where accounts are up for sale

This happened to a friend of mine about 6 months ago and he's still not got his account back even though the person who either hacked it or bought it is still using it! they'd bought 1200 MSP on his card and then started using there own card!

Microsofts customer support in the UK leaves a lot to be desired sometimes! (but this is a running trend in the UK not just with Microsoft!)

dark-hollow5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

I love how everyone attacks hackers and how they are the scum of the earth when they hack anything sony releated.

Otherwise its "lol thats what you pay 4"

Solid_Snake375254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

I know... Buch of hypocrites :/

The media went crazy saying how 70 million credit cards info were stolen from the PSN attack. Hackers now attack XBL, REAL MONEY is stolen and nobody gives a f**k...

Wikkid6665254d ago

Hacking and Fishing are 2 very different things!

bozebo5254d ago

The Sony hardware hacks are totally different from these XBL account hacks.

RememberThe3575254d ago

@bozedo: Yeah it's totally different when a thief breaks through your window instead of your front door.

/s

dabri55254d ago

It's more of a difference of a thief breaking in your window and you giving the thief the keys to your house along with security key codes.

These accounts are getting hacked because at some point in time, the customer unknowingly gave out their info (account id and password) to the hacker. This is normally done by the hacker creating a site/ emails that look like they were sent by Microsoft. Microsoft's servers weren't hacked or compromised so there is little they can do about this beside warn live users not to fall for the phishing sites/ emails.

Solid_Snake375254d ago

@bozebo
Um what hardware hacks?

WrAiTh Sp3cTr35254d ago

What I find funny is people thinking this is n the same level as what happened to Sony. This isn't even the same thing as what happened to Sony, but the ignorant like to keep the ignorant even more ignorant...but I digress...

WrAiTh Sp3cTr35254d ago

This is interesting. It seems people actually don't know what phishing is. I do appreciate the awareness the articles are bringing but I don't think people are really reading and understanding what's going on. The same thing happened with eBay a couple of years ago, I'm sure it still happens but there isn't any news about it and I don't get any emails from eBay letting me know that I need to be cautious. Which brings me to my next point, MS should do like eBay did/does and send messages across LIVE telling people to be aware of such scams. Seems like I remember them doing it once when I first started LIVE but I can't remember.

pc_masterrace5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

Although PSN was hacked there were no reports of CC info being used to make purchases. Not only is this happening with xbox accounts but MS hasn't done a thing to stop it.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

The news of Xbox Live hacked accounts has been going on still, which was already discussed in a few stories on Giantbomb and Kotaku. It's assumed that Fifa has something to do with all this; that is, people are buying Fifa Ultimate Team packs and flipping them on ebay. Just some random guy and social engineering or something.

But what's new is the fact that one person was hacked twice, with hundreds of dollars taken from her paypal account.

Ravenor5253d ago

Phishing is basically using your account id and password on a website made to look like a MS website. I've had my own account compromised by logging into my hotmail account on a computer infected with a keylogger, it's also becoming increasingly common for people to use social services to find clues for peoples secret answers.

All of these things are largely out of Microsofts hands, they cannot control how diligently you protect your personal information on things like Facebook.

When my account was hacked and over 500 dollars charged to my credit card MS refunded all of it. This was 2 years ago now and I can only imagine they haven't changed that policy or in the wake of phishing becoming more common, improved it.

I would also like to quickly point out that a greater portion of "Gold" XBL accounts would have credit cards linked to them then PSN accounts. They are just far more valuable to target then a PSN account.

Big lol at people who don't know the difference between Phishing and what happened with PSN. It isn't the same thing.

morganfell5253d ago

@dark-hollow,

You are joking right? Because almost everyone and I mean practically everyone on this forum wanted to see Sony fall to the hackers. Very few of us were defending them. It's laughable that you act as if everyone was defending Sony during the hacking incident. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was attack, attack, attack.

It would do for you to go back and review the attitude and posts of quite a few people, nay, a vast number of people who felt that not only was the Sony hacking incident justified but it was deserved.

You like so many others seem to forget which company has been the perpetual whipping boy on N4G. Here's a hint: it hasn't been Microsoft or Nintendo.

ABizzel15254d ago

The same thing happened to my account, and the funny thing is, Fifa was on the list of games I had recently played, but I've never played a Fifa game in my life.

The same thing is going on with yahoo email, where people are hacking into accounts to steal information, and all these companies are doing is deny and cover. I don't share my information with anyone, therefore, I've not been hoodwinked. There is a problem with their security, and MS or EA are trying not to take the blame for this.

Wikkid6665254d ago

So let me guess... you use the same password for every account?

dabri55254d ago

Exactly, most of these people use the same email and password for their live accounts as they do everything else. Fifa appearing on the recently played games list is really no surprise. It's one of the biggest selling games in the world. Also the people who are buying these accounts tend to be in Europe where the game is even bigger.
It's like announcing that 90% of every car stolen had the radio listened to by the thief. You wouldn't assume they are all linked by a security hole in the radio would you?

Persistantthug5254d ago

continue to operate because they want to observe them and their behavior and patterns......kind of like a sting operation.

I hope your friend gets their account back.

killasder5254d ago

^ Are u serious lol.. brain washed...

Da One5254d ago

You're freaking delusional...

They can not use a paying customer's account that way...

Persistantthug5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

But I don't see why you believe I'm delusional or that my idea is so far fetched.

According to the site, the ruse is complex and might require a little observation in order to fight and patch any unforeseen holes.

Secondly, the account that you say is a "paying customer's account"....that account is already deemed SUSPENDED, so Microsoft can do whatever they want with it and compensate the loss at a later time.

Again, I'm not saying this "IS DEFINITELY" the way it's happening, but it certainly could be.

In order to catch and combat thieves....YOU HAVE TO CATCH AND COMBAT THIEVES.
That's all.

Da One5254d ago

I'm not saying that MS watching what is happening is delusional...but them letting people continued to get robbed in the process is...

RememberThe3575254d ago

@Da One: Yeah because multinational corporations always got your back!

/sarcasm FTW lol

Da One5254d ago

Lol...i never said they were, nor do i believe any corporation does, which is why can't understand fanboys.

dabri55254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

@Daone
You can remove your cc info from your account, even without the system. Just like with any situation where someones cc gets stolen, your first prio should be to contact the bank so they cancel it and refund any charges that you didn't authorize. At some point you have to start blaming the people, not the company (this is one of the only situations I'll say that).
If someone had their account stolen/ hacked, then left the card uncanceled and let the thief charge it again and again, I can only say shame on the card owner.

*****

@PC_masterrace
Sony shutting down PSN for the time period it did, cost other companies millions of dollars in lost revenue. They systems were hacked.
The difference between this and Sony is that Microsoft wasn't hacked. These people fell victim to phishing scams or had their accounts credentials guessed because they were the same as another account(from different service) that got hacked. Microsoft/Sony aren't responsible for people being stupid.

Da One5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

I didn't bring any of that up dude, I just simply stated that a corporation can't not use your financial well being as bait or spying tactics...

the problem here is that the girl was supposed to have her account locked....which is MS failed to do, their fault.

Also, If you bought your Live subscription with a credit/debit card you can't just exactly remove at will...without a lot of hoop jumping and hassle

kaveti66165254d ago

The FBI does this all the time. When they discover that someone is committing credit card fraud, they observe their behavior so they can add on more charges. They will allow the criminal to rack up more charges onto the card so they can put him/her in jail for a longer period of time.

It's possible MS is tracking the purchases made on the account so they can give the info to the proper authorities, thus giving them more evidence to charge the criminal.

Da One5254d ago

Lol that's the ****ing FBI..

The shit is standard practice for the police and FBI. I don't condone it, but a corporation has/shouldn't have such a right with your financial well being....a government entity could give two ****s and has all the judicial backing to do so.

Sony gets hacked, the media has a circus with it, but in the end nobody suffers any real damage from it. MS gets hacked, accounts are compromised and money IS stolen... The gaming media ignores it for the most part. The worst part is, these hacks are still happening.

buttclown5254d ago

Millions versus thousands is a totally different number. And these hacks are mostly because stupid people use the same email and password for everything. And also it says that the person's account got hacked, not Xbox Live or Microsoft.

BlackTar1875254d ago

Millions Buttclown?

is that a confirmed # that Millions of people accounts were leaked or is that some over exaggerated # pass out somewhere.

i could be wrong and i have been before so im not to good to admit it when i am

PimpDaddy5253d ago

Fr0sty is incorrect to compare the 2 situations. In the case of Sony their PSN service was hacked into and compromised as a whole. In the case of Microsoft only a fraction of XBL users have had their security compromised and it was because they were the victims of a phishing scam.

Do not confuse or compare the 2 issues. The reason Microsoft isn't catching more heat or generating more media attention is because as a whole XBL has not had a security breach. What's being reported are isolated incidents that involve people giving out their personal information on other websites.

pc_masterrace5254d ago

Are you f***ing kidding me? this is much, much worst than what happen with Sony. I'm shocked more gaming sites aren't talking about this.

kaveti66165254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

Not at all. What happened with Sony was worse because Sony's security was compromised and a tome of collected information was leaked that should have been protected better.

What happens with XBL users is the fault of the individual because the individual falls prey to phishing. Phishing occurs when the XBL user receives fabricated notifications that are designed to resemble official Microsoft emails. They enter their data into the notification and the data is immediately keylogged on the other end.

mistajeff5254d ago

No, it's the fault of the dicks who are phishing peoples information. Yes, pretty much EVERYONE needs to be more careful in regards to giving their information out, but if there weren't people mining this information to begin with, there wouldn't be a problem. The ultimate blame rests with them.

SilentNegotiator5254d ago

Hackers, phishers, whatever. They all deserve a good punch in the face.

AtomicGerbil5254d ago

Somebody needs to put a stop at this crap. This people need to be brought to justice.

B1663r5254d ago

These are not hacked accounts... These are phished accounts. A number of websites are out there that offer you goodies if you type your xbox userid and password in. Some of these phishing attempts have come across n4g's front page.

For example... Playfire.com... Is the most recent phishing site.

You were not "hacked" if someone asked you for your password and you typed it in, you were an idiot. Those are different things.

Codeman4205254d ago

FYI my account has been hacked b4 and i never give out any of my information, so your theory is wrong.

dark-hollow5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

Do you have the evidance that your profile has been hacked within xbl servers itself?

No? Then you have been scammed.

Edit: no you didnt understand my question.
I mean do you have proof that your gamertag was sitting safely in xbl servers then it has been hacked? Or your email has been hacked which can lead to your gamertag ti be hacked.

Codeman4205254d ago

um yea called MS and told them to look at it and the fact that i have bank statements and actual record from MS showing the activity. so there goes your idea as well. sry to disappoint you.

3GenGames5254d ago

^ If your bank doesn't track the websites and servers you've relayed information to they can't tell if you've been phished, so how's a bank statement show any information on your defense of not being phished? It actually supports it because you have no idea what you're really talking about.

Plambey5254d ago

these are hacked accounts. one of the main examples of this was from a user who's account was stolen and goods purchased. what was the email he used? one that he doesnt use for anything else, nor does he check it, and pretty sure doesnt work anymore. this means he would never use these details in a login page that was a phishing scam.

buffycrp5254d ago

it is possible keyloggers tracked the sign in if you logged in on the website or possibly a insecure network and possible are other servers which have access to xbl possibly websites which let you log in....

Emilio_Estevez5254d ago

And how would you know? You asked all the people who said this happened? Phishing happens to Grandma's, I think it's fair to say that if you have an xbl account then you know not to give out passwords.

Plambey5254d ago

true, also the user mentioned in the article that she was compromised twice. if she was phished the first time (which i doubt she was) you can sure as hell bet she wasnt going to be phished a second time in such quick succession.

buffycrp5254d ago

Phishing happens to more than just grandmas its probably the easiest way of stealing details and is used to steal any details from name, address to bank details its prolific and on the rise despite many people saying only the stupid fall for it.
hell its even used to gather phone numbers for junk calls.

JustSkylarkin5254d ago

No one asked for my password and I certainly did not type it in anywhere. I was not the victim of phishing, I'm a lot smarter than to fall for something like that.

(I'm the person behind the hackedonxbox tumblr account)

IAmCornHolio5254d ago

I don't believe you because I am getting spam from a half a dozen people who were phished by playfire ATM.

The part where I think you are being dishonest, is that I get asked for my xbox userid and password almost daily...

Thats why I don't think you are being entirely truthful.

TBM5254d ago

A friend of mine who's extremely careful about info getting out and stuff like that got his acct hacked back in the summer and was charged for pts he never purchased it took Microsoft almost 5 months to give him back his money, and they even charged him again for the same amount the hacker used to buy those pts.

i know for a fact my friend doesn't give out his info to anyone/anything if it doesn't sound right to him so that's why i know his actual live acct was hacked. do not make it sound like it cant happen because nothing in this is hack proof when it pertains to online services.

buttclown5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

You know for a fact that your friend's account got hacked and he didn't give out info? You did the investigation yourself and you know what to look for?

Gee, maybe Microsoft should hire you to do there investigations.

TBM5254d ago

yes clown he's a very good friend of mine who's told me everything that's happened, and believe me when i say he doesnt give out information for anything.

you people can disagree all you want, and act like this cant happen to you but ive went through this whole situation with him since he's told everything from the beginning.

MS will never come out and say Live has been hacked due to wat happened to sony this past year. but unlike Sony this is going to hit MS harder if/when someone takes action against them and they say it was indeed a hacked system.

cstyle5254d ago

dude please...there is no live hack. Its just stupid members falling for the obvious....lol

Codeman4205254d ago

ok i would say they same thing but considering the number of accounts the are having issues and the lack of support MS is showing, there is something more than the consumers are being told by MS.

Colwyn5254d ago (Edited 5254d ago )

You are correct, xbl wasn't hacked. its just like people who believed in RROD when all it was was a red cyborg smiley face.

buttclown5254d ago

And when a console red-ringed, you were given a free repair or a new console for free. Plus the warranty was extended to 3 years.

Godmars2905254d ago

If this is actually true and MS takes *months* to admit it, don't you think it would all the worse for them? Especially money from accounts was taken.

Then again because the number of hacks is of a less sensational size than the PSN one, the news might actually not get as much attention.

Codeman4205254d ago

NO it will probably get more since MS made such a big deal about PSNs mishap, now, if ture, MS is having issues all that they have said about their system just got questioned by everyone. and im sry ppl may say Live is unhackable, there is nothing in the world that is unhackable, Live has been hacked b4 and im sure multiple times, those attempts are just not as big as the PSN outage.

hellvaguy5254d ago

"NO it will probably get more since MS made such a big deal about PSNs mishap"

MS never once made a big deal of the PSN hack. In fact, their only offical statement was the exact opposite saying hacks are bad for the industry and they wouldnt wish it on anyone.

Get your facts straight. http://news.softpedia.com/n...

PimpDaddy5253d ago (Edited 5253d ago )

You are trying way too hard. Stop comparing a few phishing scam victims on XBL to the whole network security being breached on PSN.

The reason PSN got so much attention is because nobody could use PSN for at least 25 days. The whole service was taken down. I was one of those millions that couldn't log in.

Your agenda makes me ill. Until their is evidence that somebody hacked into the XBL servers and obtained users credit card info directly from XBL then you can't sit here and blame MS and call for their head...

DragonKnight5254d ago

Because you pay for Live, it never gets hacked.... right? -_-

Bundi5254d ago

Except it wasn't hacked. People got swindled of their passwords, thats it. . .that is it! Lol seriously though, you really that desperate to have Xbox hacked to the scale of PSN-gate?

ksense5254d ago

and are you that desperate that you believe whatever microsoft says and not acknowledging the possibility that this could be as bad as psn gate!!! some of these comments are so ridiculous. it is like they are being paid by microsoft that they come here and say with 100% conviction that it is phishing and not a hack.

JustSkylarkin5254d ago

I'm the person behind the hackedbyxbox Tumblr. I can assure you that I have never given my password out online. I have not been tricked into handing it over and I'm certainly not foolish to become a victim of phishing.

DragonKnight5254d ago

I love how I made a vague statement and there's already someone saying "i can't believe you want Live to be hacked as bad as PSN." The lengths people will go to to defend MS and Live.

PimpDaddy5253d ago (Edited 5253d ago )

Just noticed that you came over from 1up to N4G. Nice to see you haven't changed your ways. Anybody can look up your comment history and see that you go to great length to defend Sony and bash Microsoft.

You earlier comment should be flagged for trolling. As for an on topic response?

I'm not saying that XBL can't be hacked. I'm saying there is no evidence as we speak of XBL service being hacked. What their is evidence of is XBL users having their accounts compromised due to phishing scams and having their e-mail accounts hacked.

My issue with this website and it's users is they are trying to compare XBL to PSN when the 2 issues are different. PSN as a service was compromised which is why it was taken down for 25 days and it was proven that they didn't have the best security in place before they got hacked.

XBL has not gone down for any network security issues and what has been reported are isolated incidents that so far have been found to be user error.

Feel free to PM me if you could like to continue this discussion since you wasted your 2 bubbles trolling in an article that has nothing to do with you since you don't have an XBox 360.

Hyperbomb695254d ago

@Bundi

>swindled for their passwords.

yeah that's just as bad as hacking. I would think that paying 60 dollars a year they can keep those swindlers out of XBL.

PimpDaddy5253d ago

It's not as bad. Try to grasp this. I will say it S L O W L Y for you so hopefully you understand.

The PSN service was hacked and therefore had to be shut down for 25 days. This is what you call being hacked.

XBL service has never gone down for security compromise issues. We have a few isolated incident where users information was compromised. However those attacks came externally from XBL in the form of phishing scams and e-mail accounts being compromised.

They are not the SAME. PSN was HACKED and had to be SHUT DOWN to fix the issues.

XBL was not hacked and as of today is still running fine.

Any questions???

Otherwise I’ll stick with services that don’t have ads.

And here's why Sony not doing it yet lol.

rainslacker2894d ago

People are disagreeing with you, but you have a point. Why would Sony want people to get any kind of investment through a competing ecosystem.

I don't think it's their biggest reason for not doing cross play, but obviously, they probably wouldn't be too keen on such a thing.

gamer78042894d ago

Other games devs that want crossplay wouldn't have achievements. Th. Answer has already been revealed as a monetary decision

Eonjay2894d ago

@gamer
Yes its always about mon edy, for both. Nothing else.

Sharky2312894d ago

I think at first everybody was in agreement and then MS dropped a money figure. Sony probably felt that it was unreasonable because they have the bigger install base. Nintendo needed this to happen so they jumped right in. That’s just my opinion I could be wrong!

rainslacker2894d ago

@gamer

True, but at the same time, allowing cross play opens up these kinds of doors. If the two companies talked about it as some point, then they both had their own needs for it to go forward. I doubt either of them just outright denied the other to be a dick about it. But I can easily see that the things one company asked for not being acceptable to the other, and as it stands, we don't know what was asked for, by who, or who couldn't agree with such demands. For all we know, Sony had some demand that MS couldn't accept.

But Eonjay is right. Money will have a lot to do with it....although I doubt any exchange of money would need to take place. But on the back end, Sony, or even MS, may have felt the potential loss to their own brand didn't outweigh the benefits to their consumer.

@Sharky

I couldn't say with Nintendo. I have this feeling they don't really know where they want to go with their online. I don't see cross play with Switch really benefiting or hurting their system, because I don't really think Nintendo's main focus is online gaming to such a high degree to begin with. Nintendo is just starting up their online service, and I feel it's going to go through some growing pains. I hope that what they're doing works out for them, and if anything, maybe between them and MS, they'll show that cross play isn't going to be an issue no matter how it plays out.

Prince_TFK2894d ago

Are you saying that the Switch and the X1 are dying?

Eonjay2894d ago

Sony is under no obligation to host the competitors ecosystem on it's own paid service. At all. They don't owe you anything. You are not entitled to PSN.

mcstorm2894d ago

King_Lothric do you remember a console called the PlayStation Vita? Oooo I guess that's not counted because it sold poor and had no support at all from Sony?

Come on Sony have messed up a few times some times it hurts them others it dose not. VR was the next big thing and we are still waiting with less and less games adapting vr.
Move ps eye also devices that have slid back into the shadows. All 3 have made mistakes this gen and all 3 are trying to put them right.
Cross play though is one Sony need to out right. Why should everyone not be able to play each other no matter the console if you own the same game for me this is kind of where Sony have a 1up and one down on Microsoft as if they open it up to work with everyone else they have the exclusives locked up at the moment so more reason for people to cross play on a PS4 over the other two but psn is still not as good as live and online play is better on the xbox. That makes it an interesting battle as for the switch well Nintendo have a lot of catching up to do online side but Nintendo gamers do like Nintendo games and if games like fortnight, Minecraft and more are cross play on it the better for Nintendo.

For me ide just love to be able to play my ps or switch friends from my Xbox or when our and about from my switch and pickup from where I left off to. Times have moved on it should not be a closed system anymore for gaming no matter th IP or console.

Dragonscale2894d ago

Yeah and Sony can keep being all high and mighty as much as they want. Pretty soon they will be the odd man out and the only one who can’t play nice with others.

“Invading the switch now, are we?”

Yeah, I’m sure this was a shady move that Nintendo had no hand in, or knowledge of, before it actually happened. It’s really a clever ruse so MS can have more people getting achievements. Curse them! Next thing you know, Switch players will be forced to by an Xbox in order to verify Minecraft on their Switch! Diabolical!

I guarantee Microsoft will add these numbers into their xbox live engagement statistics! 100 million creepers exploded through xbox live on switch and xbox one!

Stay tune for NPD reports next month

Cheesetoenails2894d ago (Edited 2894d ago )

invading..hahahahahahaha enjoy your CLOSED ecosystem then. Cooperation is now a bad thing?

its so amazing that when they "accidentally" allowed cross play on another game there was no outrage from Sony fans.

rainslacker2893d ago (Edited 2893d ago )

Hate to break it to you, but XBL is a closed ecosystem. MS wants nothing more than to make their ecosystem as closed as possible. This achievement thing just brings them more users, which is what they want. It works out for the gamer, but it's not like they're doing it because they're amazingly altruistic.

Personally, I'd rather that Nintendo just make their own achievement system. That's something they are way behind on, and there is no reason not to have it. I'd imagine more people would care about that than they'd care about playing minecraft with Xbox players. But to date, we haven't seen a lot of Switch players caring about achievements either....so take that for what it's worth.

thexmanone2894d ago

They own Minecraft, why not

Wow! First the minecraft play together video, then twitter and now this. What's next?

Kabaneri2894d ago (Edited 2894d ago )

Drake plays crossplay Minecraft with Ninja on Switch.

King_Lothric2894d ago

I don't want any intrusive Xbox stuff on my Playstation ecosystem. I understand that when you are surviving in the market you need to do things you may not like to survive. Sony is not on this position so it doesn't need to help the competition to survive.

porkChop2894d ago

Achievements and gamerscore are no more intrusive than trophies and levels on PS. It's the same system, just with different branding. Not liking the idea of having Xbox stuff is fine, I do personally think it's a little weird, but I wouldn't say it's intrusive.

Kingthrash3602894d ago

It exposes your userbase to the competition. It shows what the true plan is

Dragonscale2894d ago

No thanks pork. Don't want anything xbox related on my PlayStation account fgs.

aconnellan2894d ago

@Kingthrash

*achievement pops on PlayStation version of Minecraft, notifies Microsoft headquarters*

“Mr Spencer, we did it! We finally got achievements to come up on PS games!”

“Great work! Now remind me again... what does this actually get us?”

“... I’ll have to double check our ‘clever ruse’ manual and get back to you, because I really don’t know”

Tell me. What is their ‘true plan’?

porkChop2894d ago

@Dragonscale

Did you read all of my comment? I agree it's weird, I don't want it either. I just don't think it's "intrusive". It works the same way as PS trophies do.

rainslacker2893d ago

@aconnellan

What does it get MS? It gets them direct access to Nintendo's user base. They now have a email address of a Nintendo user. MS can, and likely will, send out marketing directly to those people, circumventing every compliance standard in place in how 3rd party publishers are allowed to contact said systems user base. I'm almost positive this is why Sony wouldn't allow it on PSN, despite not disallowing 3rd party accounts.

On top of that, it gets them yet another MAU. Something that's very important to MS, because that's what they're using to report to investors on their future potential, and current standings. That means that the bigger the numbers go, the more their stocks are worth. Hence, more money to work with.

Beyond that, it gets people invested in their ecosystem in some way. That's good for MS, not so good for Nintendo if people decide to move over to Xbox for some reason.

This whole thing seems like it's much more beneficial for MS than it is Nintendo. I'm not really sure what Nintendo is getting out of it, and seems like a lot to risk just to have one game with cross play to have some good PR and a way to promote their own online service.

The competition are surviving just fine. Every sony fan acts like they got 80 million users over night. It's taken years for them to get to that number and if switch came out decades ago at the same time it would have the same user base or more by now. Sony fanboys like to selectively forget this fact though

XabiDaChosenOne2894d ago

It took Sony a little more than four years to get to this point not "decades" and the WiiU released an entire year before the PS4 and it isat 1/8th of the sales what's your excuse for that?

DwightSchrute012894d ago

@XsbiDaChosenOne Wii U an d the switch are 2 different consoles. Any idiot can see that. Was the Wii U marketed as well as the switch Is? Could you play the Wii U on the go? Did the Wii U have as much 3rd party support as the switch. No.

Another selective with information sony fanboy.

DialgaMarine2894d ago (Edited 2894d ago )

Wii U had better third party support than Switch. Wii U had CoD, AC, ME, Aliens, Darksiders, Far Cry, and Madden. Had these games not sold so poorly, Wii U would’ve at least continued to see installments of those. Switch only really gets third party support through Bethesda, Japanese titles, and a couple sports franchise. It’s basically missing everything else.

PS4 is doing better than you think. 3DS launches 2 1/2 years before PS4, and PS4 still outsold 3DS before hitting its 4 year anniversary.

microgenius2894d ago (Edited 2894d ago )

A console without exclusive tied with a mini console without 3rd party and still beaten by THE KING
Losers are trying their best to gain a little momentum
just make games instead of this ridiculous gimmicky features

Cheesetoenails2894d ago

which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
