GTA V release date outed?

Music website and magazine NME seem to have released information regarding the release of GTA V. According to the websites "20 reasons to be excited about 2012" we will all be retreating indoors and drawing the curtains in May when GTA V will apparently hit the shops.

Kran5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

No way. Reasons why:

1. Max Payne 3 is out in March, and the idea that GTAV would be released 2 months later is a big leap.
2. Major Rockstar games tend to have at least a year from the announcement before release.
3. Hello! It's a music magazine. Well... "Hello" is a celebrity/fashion mag so yeah.

MrBeatdown5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

Actually, if you look at recent Rockstar games, the time from the trailer to the release is actually around seven months.

LA Noire
First trailer - November 2010
Release date - May 2011

Max Payne 3
First trailer - September 2011
Release date - March 2012

GTA4
First Trailer - March 2007
Release date (before delay) - October 2007

GTAV's trailer was released in November. May would be about seven months later.

Combine that with the fact that Rockstar has released RDR, LA Noire, and GTA4 all in the spring, and there is plenty of reason to think it could release in May.

I don't look at Max Payne as an indication that GTAV wouldn't release in May. That's actually one of the reasons I think GTAV WILL release in May. I think MP3 is being released in March to make room for GTAV. Otherwise I would have expected MP3 in April or May like previous Rockstar games.

roadkillers5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

Didn't the first LA Noir trailer come out in 2007? I also think Red Dead had a little teaser trailer before this gen started. Other then that, it does seem like they release their games relatively close to the trailer.

I'm guessing Nov. 2012 or May 2013 since that's the timeframe that they release games.

Kran5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

OK. I've been proven wrong and I accept it. Never thought I'd admit to it ;P

@roadkillers

Yes but the game was delayed until 2009 for the fact that Take Two asked Team Bondai to start over which during the period caused many to lose their jobs, or quit and so forth.

Then it got delayed until 2011. Why else do you think Team Bondai closed?

MrBeatdown5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

@roadkillers

I don't recall an LA Noire trailer, but you could be right. You're definitely right about RDR though. I think there was a tech demo sort of thing from back when it was called "Old West Project" or something like that.

BuLLDoG9095240d ago

@ roadkillers,

rdr didnt have a trailer or teaser before this gen started..... i remember the first screens they released less then a year from release...

kingdavid5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

MrBeatdown is pretty much correct if you're referring to the "proper game reveals" which the gta v trailer pretty much was.

RDR and LA Noire both had teasers a few years before they were released but both changed considerably by the time they were released and they definitely werent the final product.

r1sh125240d ago

@mrbeatdown.
I agree, they deliberately dont release during the end of summer and beginning of winter because call of duty is around at that time.

Between march and june is a great time since many games are not as big as the GTA franchise.
People who are frustrated or bored with COD/BF will have a chance to buy something different.

TVippy5240d ago

Wishful thinking. And what makes you think V won't be delayed? It will be.

MattyG5240d ago

@Kran Team Bondi actually closed because of this http://www.next-gen.biz/new...

Nate-Dog5239d ago

I agree with both you guys to be honest. I found it hard to believe that GTAV would release as soon as May (so soon after Max Payne 3) when all those hints in the trailer were found. But there really were a LOT of hints at it in the trailer and judging from MrBeatDown's list a May release does seem quite likely for GTAV despite the closeness of the dates.

Max Payne is being developed by Rockstar Vancouver and Rockstar North is with GTA V. So it's possible.
The only problem I see is how rockstar is going to market them, but they know what they are doing. Makes me happy

showtimefolks5240d ago

Take-two the parent company for RS and 2k along with few others have big games scheduled over the next 2 years

bioshock
mlb 2k
nba 2k
darkness 2
max payne 3
xcom
gta 5

I think RS will release GTA5 in fall 2012, because its just as big as COD name and could do a lot of damage in holiday season, but if you look at past GTA game most of the times most of the times they came out in Q2 like April-august

here is hoping we see gta5 soon

BlmThug5240d ago

Also during the summer there is a videogame drought. Very few AAA titles get released during this time so R* would be crazy to not take advantage of that.

I want it to release in November of 2012. CoD vs GTA...FIGHT !!! :)

Adityac5240d ago

Dude, COD is no match for Grand Theft Auto Vs AWESOMENESS, EPICNESS, it's the godfather of all games kid, I know I sound like a 12year old fanboy but who the fuck cares?

Kingdom Come5240d ago

As much as I'd like this to be true, no chance.

Kingdom Come5240d ago

I'd just like to point out that whilst I completely understand why people disagreed with me, Rockstar haven't even announced what platforms GTA V will be releasing on, so I highly doubt the game will release in less than a year after the trailer (or around a year).

ThichQuangDuck5240d ago

When did NME become a credible source for Video Games let alone music, most of their stories are quotes from artist completely out of context.

BattleTorn5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

Mark my words (although this is only my best guess)

GTA V will release between June-Oct. 2012; with Nov. at the very latest.

Rockstar has a track record of not releasing in Fall, and have had much success releasing in Spring.
The only GTA that has released in Fall was GTAIV in Oct. 2006.
All the others have been in Spring.

Furthermore, every GTA has had a 6-month ad campaign, which would also support a Spring release.

Jamzluminati5240d ago

What?

III, VC, and SA were all released in the Fall. October to be exact.

FragMnTagM5240d ago

GTA IV was released April 29th, 2008. I believe May is a legit date. It will help with the summer drought, and Max Payne will have two whole months to do its thing before GTA V comes out.

Makes sense to me.

Also, GTA San Andrea was released October 2004. Vice City was released October 2002, and GTA III was released October 2001.

Your post is hardly credible as everything about it is wrong.

YodaCracker5240d ago (Edited 5240d ago )

He lists the only main GTA installment that DIDN'T release in Fall as the only one that DID! GTA IV in October 2006? WTF? How do you get your facts mixed up this badly?

BattleTorn5240d ago

I know. I wish I could correct my comment.

Clearly I had all the information absolutely backwards.

I think what I meant to say is, ever since GTA IV Rockstar has released in Spring. (RDR, LA Noire)

ShoryukenII5240d ago

GTA IV was going to release October 2007 until the delay so that "2006" could have been a typo and the "October" is an understandable mistake.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood113d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher112d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake112d ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake121d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09120d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle120d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto120d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle120d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart120d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher120d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle120d ago (Edited 120d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
