Most Regrettable Video Game Purchases

Chris Buffa (Modojo): In my younger years, I made some bizarre and borderline ridiculous shopping decisions. Things were so bad that I literally could not go to a store without leaving with some game and/or peripheral. This was made worse during my import phase, when, like many hardcore players, I was obsessed with things from Japan.

The result? Maxed out credit cards and piles of unused plastic. These weren't necessarily bad products per se. I'm sure you or someone else can make the argument why something like a Wonderswan Color is cool, but it didn't belong in my collection.

On that note, here are a few of the worst purchases in my shopping history. I no longer own any of these things.

I don't really have any regrets as of late. I typically wait for reviews before purchasing these days to avoid buyers remorse.

some can still experience buyers remorse even after reading reviews. That just goes to show that people can reflect on things differently from others.

All the praise in the world from others cant change someone's personal view if they dont find it to be what they read about.

Couple of mistakes he made was just being sucked into hype and importing stuff at massive mark ups. We've all been there so know shame in that ;).

Generally i don't regret my purchases. But looking back at the amount of money i've spent on gaming over the years does make me wince every now and then

Back in the genesis days, Sunsoft made Batman for the mega drive in JP. Because of Nintendo's contractual legalities....sunsoft wasnt able to release the game in the US. Until after them and several other developers stood up to the big N and got those contract restrictions lifted.

Forcing nintendo to rethink game releases and ultimately the Batman game came to the US the following year. I will say though, I paid $120 for the import version from Die Hard back in the day. The game (for its time) was a big improvement over the crappy NES version.

Had to slightly modify my genesis in the process in order for the cart to fit. I dont regret buying it as it opened up the door for more import carts to fit my genesis.

I do have 1 and only 1 regret on a game purchase. Kasumi Ninja for the jaguar. That game was pure trash.

And before people say it...no i dont regret buying the jaguar either. Its worth lots of $$$ these days especially with the cd drive.

Yeah, the GameCube for me too. I initially bought it at that time for all intents and purposes of playing the "next gen" Perfect Dark....only to eventually find out that M$ had acquired Rare. Ironically, I hate that I got rid of my GC due to the fact that Eternal Darkness happened to be a personal fav of mine.

after playing a kiosk at kay bee toys when it was first released. They had it set up with Rogue Leader and that battle sequence above the deathstar sold it for me.

Gran Turismo 5, a G27 wheel and a wheelstandpro stand for the wheel.

not that any of those are bad, mind you, but i'm NOT a racing game fan at all. it's one of my least favorite genres. i spent all that money as an impulse buy, though, and ended up selling it all about a month later on ebay.

COD Black Ops. I bought it after having played BFBC 2 for a long time. Didn't expect it to be as good but at least some decent fun. Sold it after 4 days.

At least you weren't a fool like me. I bought into the hype and got the Limited Edition (the one that comes with absolutely nothing, in terms of the premium pricing).

UGH...

American English is the only English that actually takes it out. UK, Canada and Australia all use it. You can thank Noah Webster for that. It was his attempt to "modernize" English.
