Trophies, oh how I hate them. Sometimes I wish I could find the people who first gave birth to Achievements (which then led to Trophies) and whack them with a steel pipe (Unhealthy Violence Trophy Unlocked – Bronze). If for no other reason than to make myself feel better. For the purpose of this topic, I will use Trophies as the default for both Trophies and Achievements, unless needed otherwise. I hate them. So why am I going for them now?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."
The only time I didn't like trophies was at the end of Enslaved. Big emotional moment and a trophy with a joke popped up. Ruined the moment.
That one in Portal 2 was a perfect use of trophies though.
Besides those two extreme examples, I like trophies. Adds an extra layer of fun in some games.
Sorry, I have to make this statement...
"I get Trophies for the fun of it."
"Very few Trophies require any skill whatsoever"
Sure, lots of trophies don't require much skill, but to say very few do isn't fair. You also mention that U2's Crushing mode required determination, and I think that's something that a lot of trophies can fall under. They may not require a huge amount of skill, but many of them require dedication to a completionist goal. If you want some skill-based trophies, though, try to platinum Mirror's Edge.
"I don’t care what my friends have done in their games"
This is where you and I differ. I constantly check out what my friends have done, even though a lot of them aren't as big of a trophy hunter as I am. It's, at the very least, a good stepping point of "oh hey, you got a high % of the trophies in that game, maybe you liked it, is it worth getting?"
"To me, asking questions like this destroy the purpose behind gaming. I game to have fun."
Nobody's purpose for gaming applies to everyone. You game to have fun, so do I. However, I find trophy hunting fun as well. I also game for the challenges, which is what trophies are great for at times. Sure, there are the easy ones, but there are plenty of hard ones if you're willing to work for them. I'll point back to Mirror's Edge, my most coveted platinum that I got so far, because it was definitely the most challenging. I haven't been as frustrated while gaming as when I was going for that, but I also haven't felt that rewarded while gaming than when I saw the box pop up with the platinum in it, aside from maybe competing in professional gaming tournaments.
Back I go to work on my Dark Souls platinum to sit next to my Demon's Souls one.
I liked trophies back when they were worth getting, like in Spyro back in da dai
I like trophies. At the start of this gen, or 2009, I hated it because it ruined games for me. But now I don't always look at trophies first. I just play, then I look at all my trophies.
