Twisted Metal – Graphics Vs. Gameplay, Patch Focus, and More

MP1st - David Jaffe reveals some tough decisions the developers behind Twisted Metal had to make as well as some more details of game mechanics, in-game music, and modes.

Nitrowolf25270d ago

I never understood the people who complained about TW graphics. The game looks great and I didn't expect it to be some huge overall and something to compare to UC series or something. It's def. a lot better then PS2 graphics that's for sure, but really the main focus here is all in the gameplay. I know Graphics are important and all, but not every PS3 exclusive needs to show the console power either.

fluffydelusions5270d ago (Edited 5270d ago )

I don't understand either. Game looks great to me. I miss games like this from the PS1 days. Wish someone would make a new jet moto.

dark-hollow5270d ago

60 fps (i guess) and possibly 12-16 cars explosions and mayhem so it looks good!

there are things that tax the GPU-CPU other than the looks of the game.

just cause 2 on pc is more demanding than mass effect 2 even though the latter looks way better!

Majin-vegeta5269d ago (Edited 5269d ago )

Just give me the game already and the graphic crybabies STFU!.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF5269d ago

But graphics are such a huge PS3 fanboys talk. All PS3 fanboys talk about are graphics. Killzone this, Uncharted that,... Then you have Xbots who say, well, it's not all about the graphics... Then the PS3 boys laugh, and talk about how the PS3 is the graphics King, and Xbox can't match it...

And now we have TM... not looking that next gen.. graphics aren't the greatest out there, and now, now all of a sudden, some of the Sony faithful are now saying to shut up about graphics... graphics aren't everything... some games are about game play, and not graphics.

LMAO.. that's the same thing Xbots said about their games that they'd get ripped on for not looking as great. You have to love it! :D

DigitalRaptor5269d ago (Edited 5269d ago )

Your claim is a shallow one. Graphics are a bullet point on a list of many things great about many of those games including gameplay, narrative, characters and audio/music. It just so happens that many PS3 exclusives have trumped the competition when it comes to impressive visuals.

The PS3 fans brag because it's a bullet point on a list. That is all. Do you really expect all PS3 graphics to be in the same league as GOW3, Uncharted and Killzone? Do you expect people to always expect they will? It's ludicrous to think that so your point is null and void.

The fact that the gameplay is often mentioned and discussed since it's such an important aspect of all games, is something you've clearly missed. Unfortunate.

Behind graphics is ALWAYS gameplay and do you really think PS3 fanboys only play games for their graphics? Do you really? If Twisted Metal looked as good as Uncharted 3, do you think people would only be talking about its graphics, and not the gameplay LIKE THEY HAVE FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO? Did no-one talk about Heavy Rain's gameplay? God of War 3's? How about Starhawk? Ni No Kuni? Sly Cooper? Did no-one discuss and compare gameplay similarities between Heavenly Sword and God of War when it came out (since they're both of the same genre)? Exactly! ;)

People are well aware that graphics aren't everything and don't need you to tell them that.

Mister_V5269d ago

Ill admit that the the "exploding" buildings that just kinda disappear are a bit funny.

DA_SHREDDER5269d ago

i understand, you just started gaming this gen huh? Don't worry you'll stop pooping green soon.

StevenVlzqz35269d ago

It might just be me but I thought the graphics looked pretty insane.

Wow cyberpunk is a great pick up. If you haven’t played it you should definitely give it a try

Christopher326d ago

Banishers was dragged down by the need to go back to old areas multiple times.

GhostScholar327d ago

Also if you bought it at launch and couldn’t deal with all the bugs it’s a totally different game now

stupidusername327d ago

Played it on release and thought it was a mess. But I'm currently playing it again now on both PS5 and Switch 2 with cross save progression, and it's really different to how I remember it. Really enjoying it now, and it's really polished and immersive.

Despite owning the 2077 One X console and the steelbook edition of the game... i still have never played it. I may actually give 2077 a try (via the portal) as there has been so much talk about it again, thanks to SW2 and now this comparison vid from DF. https://youtu.be/SvGQik3m6a...

dveio327d ago (Edited 327d ago )

I think it's an okay decision or happening.

iirc, wasn't there even a new and probably last update coming soon announced recently?

I've never played 2077, neither. (I am still a bit mad about their ... well, anyway.)

But I think it can't get better to play that game, or any game for that matter, in a 100% complete, fully updated build.

DivineHand125327d ago

Cyberpunk and Risk of rain 2 are the best of the bunch. Not a bad month if you are one of the few that haven't played those games.

yeastori327d ago

Cyberpunk is probably one of the best games I've ever played, even when it came out with all the bugs and glitches and broken gameplay on consoles, I still loved it at its core because the world was exactly what I wanted in a dystopian vision of the real future and the story was actually well done and compelling. With the fixes and then Phantom Liberty I just knew that this game could've been GOTY winner if it hadn't been released too early and released on PS5. XBX and two years later.

shinXseijuro327d ago

Might give cyberpunk a chance now that the game redeemed itself . Is it only the basic game or with the newer content ?

xHeavYx327d ago

According to the article, it's just the base game, but the DLC will be 30% off

TM3 is my favorite but I'll take what they bring out gladly. Fun times back in the day and great soundtracks

Cacabunga609d ago

Last one on ps4 wasn’t good at all.
Hoping for some good reboot or remake of the first 3

Dagexon609d ago

You mean the one on ps3?

Cacabunga609d ago

Yes i do, thanks! I realized too late couldn’t edit

Lego 2K Drive features an exciting mode called Brick Brawl, inspired by Twisted Metal. Players can create, share, and upload various cars, including ones like Sweet Tooth. The game boasts thousands of custom cars, ranging from the Batmobile to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck.

InUrFoxHole609d ago

Never understood the like for the series. Not my bag but I know a lot of gamers are clamoring for a new game and liked the TV. Series

TiredGamer609d ago (Edited 609d ago )

TM1 and 2 are time period classics. They were a bit rough, ugly, and grungy, but they felt right during the time period they were released and they scratched that early console “death match” itch before FPS games would completely swallow that market.

Many great memories with friends playing couch co-op and 1v1. Short, and quick-and-dirty gameplay that we returned to over and over. I’d buy a remake or proper remastering of the first two games day one.

InUrFoxHole609d ago

Lol, nice! I remember having the tiger handheld or watch..

FinalFantasyFanatic609d ago

I played those so much as I kid, I bought the Twisted Metal games that were on PSN as Playstation Classics, wow, they feel clunky by today's standards, they could really use the remake/remaster treatment.

UltimateOwnage609d ago

Twisted Metal: Black is when the series really hit for me. I still love that game so much. It was kind of downhill for the series after that IMO. I'd love to see the series go back to its roots, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for David Jaffe coming back from where he is these days to oversee development of a competent sequel.

Snookies12609d ago

Black was the pinnacle in my opinion. I adored TM1 and TM2, for sure. But Black brought it to a whole new level of awesome.
