Well I own a ps3 and a 360 but no need for the hd-dvd attachment for the 360, my ps3 plays them just fine, and not for transformers either, I have the dvd and the ps3 upscales that nicely :)

Not even trashformers helped their POS format win a single week hahahaha.

Gotta love blu ray. It has more space and an original name (HD DVD come on now.... its just DVD with HD on it.)

An interesting read, he makes some good points and does a decent job of giving HD DVD a fair handshake but in the end ignored/needs fact checks on some items which should shift the article's direction.

WB has consistently put more support behind HD-DVD than Blu-Ray, to date there are 24 titles only available on HD DVD from Warner, titles such as Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Constantine and the Matrix trilogy. A clear indicator on it's own.

Blu-ray discs are more expensive to manufacture and author, costs which come directly out of the studio's profits and HD DVD standalones are cheaper and standardized.

He says the BDA is willing to shower Warner with a few hundred million but I would point out that the HD DVD Consortium is just as likely to do this, if they negotiated a $150M business deal with Paramount/Dreamworks then I am sure that the larger Warner Studio would command a larger deal.

The BDA announced 2.7M PS3s and standalones combined a few days ago. That puts the PS3 at somewhere around the 2.2 - 2.3M range or almost half the number he quoted.

WB has already said that Home Players sales are the sales that really matter and that PS3 title sales cannot be predicted because you do not know how many PS3 owners will buy movies. When someone purchases a Toshiba HD DVD or 360 HD DVD add-on you know those consumers WILL buy movies or they would NOT have made the purchase at all.

And lastly but most significantly is that Warner has let it's Blu-ray licensing expire this November meaning that presently, they have absolutely no legal ties to the standard.

I might also point out that there is an impending PR storm which will start howling in early January when many early unsuspecting adoptors realize that their player won't access profile 1.1 special features which, considering the media coverage already on the format war, I'm sure will be a heavily covered issue. There is a reason that no releases with 1.1 features arrive until after Christmas.

but for movies,there doesn't need to be multi-formats. if it wasn't for Microsoft,this format thing would be over with.
