The arrival of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 redefined the landscape of games development. Cutting edge gaming software and technology - once the preserve of PC alone - found a new home: game developers that had once pushed back the frontiers of PC graphics and gameplay soon realised that the consoles presented a more profitable, viable market. Creators like Infinity Ward made the switch early, but as the generation progressed, even PC stalwarts like Crytek and id software transitioned across to console-led development.

Match 3 meets an RPG this is the only way to describe this game. Puzzle Quest Immortal Edition can only be described as the most complete entry in the series. The game is bursting with addictive gameplay and content and will keep gamers entertained for days.
VR is a fantastic medium for getting into the action! Here's some of the best sword fighting VR games currently available.
nDreams is back with Wreckin' Raccoon, which our review finds is definitely geared towards a younger audience on Meta Quest.
Imo AMD and Nvidia shot themselves in the foot when they supported consoles.
Due to games now being designed with the lowest denominator(consoles) games are now designed with old hardware in mind(console tech is about 6 years old). Which means most games released today run at 1080p 60fps on 3-4year old PC hardware. Which basically means PC gamers dont need upgrades, unless they want to be gaming on multiple screens with 3D.
Previously when games were designed around PC, graphics progressed every 1-2 years, which ment more powerful hardware was actually used and AMD and Nvidia would see sales on it.
Now some may argue that AMD and Nvidia did see sales of chips to current consoles, well yes they did however they only make a small amount on the royalties to the old chips sold and even if you combine the sales of Xbox and PS3 its around 100million units in 5 years time. Hence per year its about 20 million chips sold. Which isnt alot of chips for these companies. One would have to wonder why jeapordize the entire PC market by supporting consoles? In fact its not only the GPU market that gets compromised this also includes Motherboards, Ram, CPUs, No ones going to be upgrading those parts if games wont be taking advantage of the latest tech. In otherwords all they have done is hurt the industry this way and this may effect future development of hardware as sales probably will slow down due to upgrades not being needed.
"The arrival of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 redefined the landscape of games development."
Lol. It sure did. It marked the departure from innovative games to an entire generation of linear scripted games as a result of weak specs from day 1.
This resulted in a lack of depth in gameplay because of restrictive level design they had to cater to the lowest common denominator and replace narrative with spectacle.
Running down closed of streets with sprite backgrounds probably gets kind of boring if things aren't blowing up in your face.
O.T
I don't know what moron started this idea that graphics have plateaued; but things have got a long way to improve.
Triple the draw distances, triple the shadow and texture res, increase poly count, better character animation, better effects, full use of tessellation.
That should keep devs busy for the next few years...and GPUs under load.
EDIT:
I also voted this website down and you should all do the same. I usually don't even click through on articles I comment on because I just want the discussion, not their hit seeking B.S. But this page I did and they don't even give you the article, They give you a single paragraph that tells you nothing whatsoevere and they want you to sign in...pathetic.
ps3 did nothing, the 360 did it all by offering direct x and pc like tools on a console. Make a game for 360 and pc pretty much at the same time, then port to ps3. but somehow the pc gets the most exclusives still, most likely due to low cost, no rules, and the rise of digital distribution.
There's linking to articles where we have to be registered to read now? This is becoming too much.
Since when did releasing outdated hardware in a console = cutting edge tech? What am i missing here.....
