I thought to myself that this year, they will have to wisen up and not simply choose the best selling title, so I was expecting Battlefield 3 to win but when I heard Modern Warfare 3, I lost all hope for humanity.

I very much agree with what you're saying. This years been great for gaming and there are just so many games this year i can call GOTY worthy. It's been a great year for games and that all that matters! Good comment.

I don't disagree with you but I don't know if game of the year should be given to a game which is entire conceptual identity is based on another game that's almost 10 years old...and still current mind you.

Sorry but not sure it's enough to say it was the best game of the year which I believe should hold weight in regards to being conceptually creative.

In no way shape or form can we say OverWatch is conceptually creative if it's essentially copying another game.

To create is to make something and I do not believe that blizzard created the concept of that game clearly that was already done with Team Fortress 2

They simply made a version of another idea that's a very hard for me to say is worth game of the year.

If anybody was to consider if there were possibly paid off this might be one of the most genuine times to think that because I find it very very hard to believe that the majority of the industry believes this was the best game this year.

A good game yes, to say game of the year is to say it's doing something that is absolutely above and beyond in regards to creativity and it's hard to say creativity for me from a team that created a game from a concept that was not their own...

Well for one thing they would get commercials which would pay for the event to happen, commercials which cost a lot more since more people are watching. Think of how much ad-time at the Superbowl costs, and that's because of the audience each commercial gets. The only way that Geoff Keighley can produce the awards is with corporate sponsorship, and with not as many people watching The Game Awards, the ads sell for less money, which means there have to be more of them to pay for the show. Since the commercials are usually taking the form of new game reveals and promotions however, that's a lot more palatable to the video game audience than it would be to a network audience watching ads for dish soap and car insurance, so at least we can be thankful for that.

Unfortunately gaming is still a very expensive medium.

I completely agree with you we're just not in the era of gaming where we can have an award show that's like that one day but right now we're just not 100% there yet.

In my personal opinion we need an award show that has the Integrity to not accept any paid marketing to suggest that their decisions were swayed in any way shape or form by special interest.

If the companies want to Market that's why we have commercials for but that should not be time taken away from the award show itself.

Exactly. It is ran by jeff keeley who was part of gametrailers for years so that tells you something. I liked GT but they had their heads up their collective @$$ 90% of the time
