Always good to see games succeeding, though it's rather sad that the vast majority of the time it seems you *have* to be a sequel to get these sort of sales.

Yup, it's rather expected though. The big sales usually hit within the first few weeks of a title's release, and if you're a new IP you better have some serious PR backing to even be noticed amidst the plethora of sequels that the community will already be familiar with, and thus throw their money at.

As long as there are fans, there will always be sequels.

Kane & Lynch 2 is the best example that comes to mind. Shorter campaign aside, the gameplay mechanics were flawless and the graphics were amazing.

Remember the 'PC gamer's boycott of MW2'?

It outsold COD4(PC) lifetime sales in it's first week on PC...people truly deserve the DRM, DLC, 4hr campaign, yearly rehash culture they have created.

WHAT! PC gamers actually buy games? :O
-_-

On a serious note though.
CoD4 probably had a lot more players because it had no DRM. I borrowed mine off a flatmate but when MW2 came out only 2 out of the 7 of us bought it (whereas we all played CoD4 from 1 copy).

Haven't bought an Activision game since and never will again. I will probably buy extra copies of Respawn's game when it appears to make up for my previous "stealing" (though I was "stealing" from Activision anyway as it turned out so meh, also TY for the black-ops free weekend on Steam I got all the enjoyment it was worth in those 48 hours and didn't want to buy it after that lol).
