I dislike GS as much as the next guy, but some of those where just pushing it. Crappy employees, now whose fault is that? All of the crap they force them to do, from forcing the infamous "would you like to reserve" to pestering you to get some magazine, isn't the employees fault. I've met far worse service at fast places than I ever had at any game store.

And I'm not to sure why he has a problem with "sup." Granted its not exactly the standard hello, but the crowd you target usually use such words, so in that regard I see nothing wrong.

But there buy back and used game policies do indeed piss me off. But they could just as easily not sell or buy used games and no one really forces you to do either so...

All that said though, I still go to Wal-Mart instead. At least they are never out of stock, well almost never.

OK, so I don't like GameStop any more than the next guy, but I work at a GameCrazy, and I'd like to think that we do things a whole hell of a lot better at our store. As for idiot employees, yes, we have one, but hopefully he'll be fired soon. As for me, I've been gaming since I was two and own just about every console since then. Heck, I'm a member of this darn site -- that alone should speak for itself! On a side note, I don't know if GameStop employees really get paid what this article says they do, but we get paid a heck of a lot more. As for the "mandatory 'sups'," yes, we have those, too, but since when has it been a bad thing to greet a customer? If we didn't do it, customers would complain about "bad customer service." Trust me on that one. As for the "Pokemon Kid..." well, we've got a few of them... not much more to say about that. Used games, on the other hand, have much better prices than GameStop. A recently released, used Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 game will only cost you $49.99, or $44.99 with our discount card. Now, given $45 dollars is still a lot of money in the grand scheme, it's a heck of a lot better that $55. We also have much better trade-in prices (usually over half for MVP members on a new game). Lastly, as for the "Comment Guys..." our Comment Guys are usually the fat, silent, stinky, stand-in-the-corner-and-talk-t o-himself, serial-killer types; they're not really that chatty. But you find these people everywhere, right? You can't tell me you haven't seen some pretty medieval lookin' people at Walmart or Target.

They forgot about the wannabe gamer chic that works at gamestop and doesnt know anything about game systems or games. You can ask her questions, but she doesn't have a clue of what your talking about.

I realize there's alot we dislike about GameStop, but
*employee's are paid based on experience. That's anywhere you go.
*Your right about some of the greeting of customers, depending on which location you shop at there are some people who are real.
* I reserved games that I know I want and its a better feeling of driving around to different places to find a title.
If you are in the Brooklyn area I shop at the one on 5th ave right across from RadioShack. Thats a good group of guys with knowledge that works there.

i agree with your 5 worst things about gamestop article but i just have to add this one.... most of them are xbots droid who try to jam an xbox 360 on every customers throat if they could...

this is true because i go there twice a week and all you hear from them say is that "ps3 is expensive and it has no library of good games or no games at all crap"...etc and xbox 360 is the holy grail of gaming... yeah right..
this is really a bad business strategy for them in the long run because now that the ps3 is showing how much better games can get, people will notice and those people who were forced to buy an xbox 360 would be mad and never trust gamestop anymore and that would result to a lot of loyal customers lost forever, just because they didn't tell the truth about the ps3....

With all due respect, you guys are being way too bias in this situation. I work at gamestop and I do none of these things this guy lists.

1-I dont say "sup bro" to a customer cause its not professional, usually I go with a "Hey guys, how you doing?" or a "How you during sir/ma'am." Just because some dope who doesn't know english says this to you does not make all of us illiterate no-knowledge employees.

2-Reserves and Game Informers. Of course they are a hassle, but in their defense are they not good deals? I hate trying to sell Game Informers and Reserves but thats Gamestop and I'm not going to pass up a job at a video game store to put me through college for that.

Listen, You own a 360, Wii, or PS3. If you buy 5 games a year at 54.99 (or 44.99 for the Wii) used you gain your money you spent back and then some. Whats the problem? Its a great deal! Same with reserves, you put 5$ down that goes towards your purchase and you have one waiting for you the day it comes out. No extra charge. Im not trying to sell you that Gamestop is right, I am just saying dont complain about something that helps you in the long run without a doubt. If you are going to buy the game anyways, whats the problem? Usually I dont get the "sell, sell, sell" mentality unless the person is adamant about the game when I am talking to him.

3- I am not the bias employee, but I can say I was. I know that right now the 360 is by far the better console, but I do tell every customer the PS3 is the future. As for the Wii, we cant keep it in stock so all I hear is "when are you going to get some?"

4-Dont get me started on comment guys lol. There are alot of you guys however I do like to have conversations with because alot of you know what you are talking about and just like to talk about games not comment about them.

5-Of course the trade-in prices suck! Its America, This is Capitalism! Why do you complain about it when you end up doing the trade anyways? When you buy the game you obviously think about trading it in when you are done, right? All the better reason to buy used even though its 54.99 you get an awesome warranty.

As for the Gamecrazy guy, Its only a matter of time before we own whatever company runs you. Im not bragging, and its sad that I say this, but its inevitable. Gamestop is pretty adamant about being the Monopoly of Specialty Game Retailers.

Im not trying to argue with you guys, because there IS alot of stuff I disagree with that Gamestop does, but at this point you guys are bashing me as an employee and I have to defend myself.

Anti-Sony. Period. One of the emplyess actually told me, "We're not carrying much PS3 stuff anymore..." Huh? I wrote their Dallas offices and got a lame response from the regional office that they will look into it and talk to their emplyess.

I agree we should all boy cott gamestop just like we all boycott EA.

its funny that soooo many people bash the place.. yet so many still go there. if its such a horrible place dont go. if you continue to go there and do nothing but complain about how horrible it is then your a hypocrite. if it was THAT bad i dont think it would be in business still. so you people who have to complain about everything go live in a country where you dont have a variety of places to go to. then you will be greatful for the sh** you have.

Most of these complaints aren't in the hands of the employees or employers.
* The comment guy (always there and always annoying - last time I went there was one that I couldn't even identify his/her sex - creepy!!!) and the pokeman kid (parent and child should be carried into the street and shot) are customers - out of the stores hands.
* Mandatory "sups", well that's company policy in any store to greet their customer, although "sup" and "dog" is very unprofessional and I have not experienced that. And trying to sell you pre-orders and mags
is also company policy. Every store you go to now wants you to sign up for their credit card or buy something else at the register.
* Selling your games to Gamestop is just foolish, but I'm glad people do it. I always check out the bargain bins and pick up great older games for $5-15. Don't like the price - don't buy it! Don't like the price they offer to buy your old games - don't sell them there! To complain that the discount on a used game is not big enough is kind of stupid.
* Have to completely agree with the idiot employees and system bias though. I actually prefer to deal with the complete idiot, rather than the semi-knowledgable idiot who tries to sway my opinion. In most cases, I've been gaming longer than they have been alive, so I don't need their opinion!

was hilarious and surprisingly true. Every time I go to gamestop there is some thirty-something-year-old who makes a comment to me, or at least someone in earshot, that nobody asked for. How funny is that?

Yeah gamestop sucks, but its at least better than going to Wal-mart
or something. I hate the fact though that I tried to buy a copy of game informer at a gamestop but they would not sell the damn thing to me because they wanted you to subscribe. Its so retarded, there were stacks of the mags and nobody would buy em.

you'd be lucky if you get greeted by the employees at the three gamestop stores closest to my house. They're straight up snubs! on top of that, I wanted to buy bioshock so this employee went and got the display case then pulled out a clear jewel case containing the actual game and try to sell it to me for full price. I told him I wasn't about to pay for a used game which is basically what it was, a used game. Who knows they probably take the games home and play it for the night. Now, I only buy games from big box stores! Stop supporting gamestop, that'll teach them a lesson.

I worked at a Gamestop in various managerial positions for 2+ years. I am now out and happier than ever. After dealing with shady DMs, idiotic protocols, marketing people with heads shoved up their rear ends I will never give that company money again. I know it doesn't hurt them one bit but it makes me feel better. Of the five different companies I have worked for since I became of working age, Gamestop was easily the worst. The other companies (who will not be named) are not even in the same stratosphere as them.

gamestop i go to has a girl who is a manager,and her knowledge of games and systems puts many guys to shame,she owns all 3 systems,and she makes sure her employees tell customers about all three systems,not just there favorite.i like to get my games with them because i can reserve it's the least expensive way for me to buy my games with all the awesome games for the PS3,360,and Wii it's an expensive time to be a gamer. imo!

and none of them had the PS3 units turned on demonstrating its games. NEVER!!. Since its release I havent seen the units playing games, the few and rarely times they were on they have only a few vids. To the contrary the 360 gets every recent releases like example CoD4 demoed on the units. What the hell is happening gamestop?...its not enough with the stupid a$$holes who doesnt know nothing about games recomending the 360 to stop the PS3? Is this practice on purpose?

Also in one of the Gamestop I visit the general maneger is a woman who doesnt know $hit about games, she is very unprofessional with their employees, consumer and just everybody...she is always in a bad mood and doenst like to help us the consummer. Jesus!! I didnt visit a Gamestop to steal I just want to bougth some games so a little more "friendly" aproach to consummers may help. She is divorced so I believes she needs a man. Gamestop...PR!! I have experienced all of the kinds people mentioned in the article at Gamestop, but I still really like the store. I just ignore people that suck at life.

In my area there are your good Gamestops and your bad Gamestops.

I think this article is a little unfair because im sure not all Gamestops are like that... Ive seen the good and the horrifically bad.. Its just a matter of knowing which ones have the good employees.
