5 worst console launch games ever

those games werent just crappy launch titles. They were crappy titles....PERIOD!

It pains me to admit this but...I still have the original night trap. Not many knew this but that same game came out later for the 3DO and was visually more impressive but still a crappy game.

It was the attempt to "polish a turd" and it was just a shinier turd.

@wages...cybermorph wasnt all that bad. Trevor McFur...THAT was bad.

And 4 out of 5 "worst ever" just happen to be on PlayStation?
Either the author hasn't played any other systems, was lazy to research or this was done on purpose.
And some of these are multiplatform.

Def Jam: Icon - PS3
Sonic the Hedgehog - PS3
Streetfighter the movie - playstation
Night Trap - Sega-CD
Genji: Days of the Blade - PS3

I mean, these are bad games, but I doubt that 3/5 of the "worst launch titles ever" are on the ps3...

they made the emphasis of the ones being on the ps3 when they were available on other platforms as well.

Like i said above. Sonic (for example) wasnt just a bad launch title (if we can call it that). It was a bad title (on all platforms). Streetfighter was also on the saturn (I think i still have that game) and it was the same as the PS version.

If anything, they should have placed the platforms the games were associated on as a whole instead of just individually. Yes sonic wasnt a launch title on the 360 but it was on the 360 at the same time it was on the ps3.

They made the emphasis on PS3 because I swear the media for some odd reason is just completely against Sony this generation. I just don't get it. The thing is, if we're all completely honest, had Sony came out with a $400 PS3 (cheaper than $600) and had they came out the same time as MS, they would not be in third place right now. ALOT of PS2 people went out and bought a 360 because they didn't want to wait it out for a year to get a PS3. Then, they ended up just saying "well I've got a system, now I don't need a PS3." That's why the 360 got so popular because of people not wanting to wait a year to get their hands on a next gen system. That and the super expensive price tag.

The irony in saying that Sony had the worst launch games is that it has definitely had the best games since launch and most exclusives for sure. All quality too.

So What! You girls are crying b/c the list was mostly made up PS titles. Why? The sh-t is true. PS had some bad titles at launch. Do we have to bring Riiiidge Raaaacer? Xbox was launched w/ Halo and 360 was launched with Ghost Recon, Perfect Dark Zero, NBA 2K6, King Kong, and Condemned. That's a nice resume. Playstation launch titles always sucked. I love my PS3, but they dont pick up speed until mid-season

Wow they really hate PS3 this site as they have a lot of anti ps3 bile lately don't they? I mean 2 of those titles were also out for 360 which had been out for a year. They should have stuck with exclusives rather than multi platforms just to hit out at PS3 which they clearly hate.

Heres a great list and theres some bad ones in here all around. Nintendos had mostly good though.

That list is crap, most of those are playstation games and that's just not right. I'm not the biggest PS fan but that's not fair no matter what console you prefer.

Cybermorph isn't on the list, that's all you need to know about the valiidity of this article, nuff said.

@BiggCMan, you're right. If grashopper noticed, this article was written by a UK author. Those were UK launch titles. He wasn't bashing the PS3, he was just stating a fact. Anyone that thinks that is definitely a fanboy. Eventhough I love my PS3, I always find myself defending 360 because fanboys are always finding the most minute thing to bitch about when it comes to the console. The both have strengths and flaws. Why are people still picking sides?

I got this game day one for my xbox360, and was so appalled at the game i immediately returned it for NBA2k6 and ive been playing 2K ever since.... Actually Live 06 was so bad it killed the future framework of the game, and now the game no longer exists

I was considering at the time grabbing NBA Live 07 thinking the game would be a big improvement from 06. After renting the game, I said no thanks. Game was twice as bad as NBA Live 06 because of the glitches. Hell, NBA 07 on the PS3 was 10x better. I still have a blast with NBA 07 to this day mainly because it's in 1080p, and it looks absolutely stunning on my TV.

I know lists are subjective, but this is beyond opinion. It's just trolling, period.

I clicked it because I was actually interested in seeing some bad launch games throughout the history of Video Games. What I got was just yet another not stealthy PS-bashing article. Garbage article, garbage site.

I think it is just because the author only really played these games and never really owned any other consoles. Hard to make a list of best or worse when you live in a small secluded portion of the video game world.

Yeah, I would guess 90% of game "journalists" that seem to write articles that get submitted to n4g barely touched games before halfway through the last gen. Old and young (though most of them are probably 11-17 lol).

Vendetta and Fight for NY were infinitely better games....If you played any of the old N64 wrestling games (Wrestlemania 2000, No Way Out, WCW vs NWO) they played somilar to those with over the top moves and street arenas (in Fight for Ny)

Really great games those are games that need a HD remastered collection with some online thrown in or make them PSN/XBLA downloads

to be honest as a big fighting game player, street fighter the movies ARCADE version was actually pretty damn good and deep. You could hold down a button and release it after the motion to do an EX version. To be honest its probably the first games to have EX moves. The console version had none of this and sucked very bad. Unfortunately anyone that wasn't big in the arcade scene only knows and remembers the terrible console version or have never played the game but troll it cause the movie was ghastly. Glad consoles can finally TRUELY bring the arcade experiences home. Except tekken and vf. those games have always been arcade perfect. (or even better in some cases)

Saturn was one of the best consoles around. I still have my old console and many classic games for it. A must for anyone that collects older systems.

Being a Playstation fanboy that I am, I will admit that the ps3 was about the worst launch ever, but the 360 wasn't that far back, sure the 360 had cod, gears, and Halo, but none of those games are deal breakers if you ask me. But then look what happened. Motorstorm ends up being my favorite racer ever, Uncharted with the most awesome action platformer ever, Warhawk was sick, SSD HD, and now its got KZ3, inFamous, Resistance 3, MS Pacific Rift and Apocalypse, little big planet. Love me some playstation for sure.

The 3DS was bad, but then mario 3d was awesome, and I got mario kart 7 in plastic. BTW, it wouldn't surprise me if Mario Kart 7 ends up being a WiiU launch title.

I mean to me, the phrase implies available when the system launches. Those games on this 'list' were nothing of the kind. A launch title would be something like Battle Arena Toshinden which did come out at the time the PS1 came out.

Or Last Battle. A genesis side scrolling action/fighter that was right next to the system when it was put on shelves. These games are being made examples of but the author doesnt even know of what. He should just change it to "5 worst games he didnt like when they were released."

I still have my copy of Battle Arena Toshinden. lol It's in one of those old big PS1 cases. It's the only PS1 (or PS2) game that I have left for some reason.

Really? Because Day-1 I was playing Resistance. A few days later I got into it online, and had a blast. Awesome launch title, IMO. By itself it insures that the PS3 was definitely not the worst launch ever.

Genji: Days of the Blade was actually a pretty fun game despite the jokes over the Giant Enemy Crab bosses in the game.

-Graphics were decent for a launch game.

-Combat is fluid.

-Story has some depth with all of the characters.

-Writing is good.

-It has an RPG leveling system for all of your weapons/abilities.
(You get them through XP and collecting these Stones.)

-Standard 8-10 campaign.

etc.
[My only complaint is the camera angle at times.]

In my opinion it's a fun game worth trying out.

Though I must say this site has a grudge over Playstation for some reason.

I wanted to enjoy it, but it just felt too different from Dawn of the Samurai. I doubt it was a bad game, but I don't think I gave it time. Man, now I wanna play Genji..

I remember buying a ps2 and having nothing to play because all the launch titles were crap. The only one that looked remotely interesting was Orphen. I rented it, played it for about 20 minutes, then went back to playing my ps games until ONI came out.. and that wasn't any good either. Point being, the ps2's launch sucked and it was a while before anything worth playing came out.

Yes PS3 did not really have much to offer in terms of quality launch titles..... but neither did 360 either...

Looking back I remember there were alot of sports games on the 360 on launch... so If you don't like sports .....

I still remember xbox fans gloating about Bejeweled on the xbox live service and other games ike perfect dark (which recieved INFLATED scores)

As I said PS3 offerd a crap lineup for launch titles but it offered much more variety in terms of genres (this essentially laid out the foundation for the PS3) This is why we hear that the xbox 360 is more of a shooter genre console

Almost every console usually has a sub par launch line up of games.

It isn't until 2-3 years down the road that games really start to pile up.

Only exception to this was the Sega Dreamcast.

Sega Dreamcast had a killer launch line up.

ex.) Sonic Adventure, House of the Dead 2, Sega Marine Fishing, Dead or Alive 2, Soul Calibur, Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain, Mortal Kombat: Gold, Fur Fighters, etc.

I guess blue stinger for dreamcast wasn't terrible? Or those OMG bad Jaguar and Panasonic 3DO games? People were falling through the floor and water was appearing from nowhere in gundam crossfire. Outside of wii sports the wii launch had some horrors as well. Genji being worse than any of these games is enough to make you ask "how long have these guys been gamers?" Night trap did suck and it may belong but come on. I personally think all 5 should be jaguar and 3do games. THEY WERE ALMOST ALL TERRIBLE if they were even playable. 3DO Zelda games ring a bell? 3DO secured use of link for three games and one of which was at launch. Nintendo dosen't even admit to this games EXISTENCE its so bad. How is it not on the list? I really should have these guys jobs. What does it take to be a game journalist these days? Interviewer- "How long have you been a gamer?" Applicant-" about 35 minutes. I stopped by the local arcade and played a few games to prepare for the interview." Interviewer-" Thats called initiative! You're hired! Start with a " Top five worst console launches of all time" article. You have 20 minutes..."
