GameCentral: There's been some interesting speculation this week in the Inbox, about what would happen if Nintendo ever decided to give up making consoles - or even ceased to exist entirely. Not that either outcome is at all likely but it has not been a good year for the house of Mario.
Despite barely a negative word being spoken about it before its release the 3DS suffered from a launch beset by bad press and unimpressive (but by means disastrous) sales. Although by industry standards the launch line-up of games was above average it lacked anything close to a killer app and suddenly what seemed like a sure fire hit became a costly white elephant.

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).
Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.
Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo completed its share repurchase and set its secondary offering price at 8,347 yen ahead of March 16 delivery.

Nintendo filed a lawsuit in the United States Court of International Trade.
Nintendo of America is suing the United States government over the sweeping tariffs President Donald Trump put in place last year, according to a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. Court of International Trade and obtained by Aftermath.
LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.
The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.
it would be a sad and serious world, with less colors in games and innovation
That about sums it up.
This article doesn't really go into depth of a "world without Nintendo" as much as tries to justify why there's been such a bad reception to the 3DS and Wii U.
Honestly, if Nintendo bowed out now, it would be the same as a world without Atari or Sega, life goes on and games get made.
Nintendo have history, but so did Atari. One company doesn't preserve the industry any more.
If Nintendo left the console business they will probably continue developing games on other platforms so we wouldn't be missing out in their franchises.

If they keep going the way they are, they aren't going to have any choice but to stop making consoles. If the Wii U flops - and it likely will - they're history.
