Remaking the greatest JRPG and arguably the greatest video game ever made on the Unreal Engine is a slap in the face of anyone who played Final Fantasy VII back in the original PlayStation era.

If Final Fantasy VII receives a remake(and it should), it needs to be handled delicately. At some point, all of the classic Final Fantasy games need to be remade, Dark Sniper personally ranks VIII as of equal importance.

Square Enix unfortunately lost their talents of their mid 90's dominance due to unfortunate departures and horrendous decision making. Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant(Xbox 360 exclusives) are prime examples of Square Enix's fading talent.

Future Final Fantasy games have unfortunately been cursed due to Square Enix's defection from greatness. But Final Fantasy VII was, is and always will be a coveted classic that can only be found on PlayStation.

If there is any consideration of Final Fantasy VII leaving the PlayStation family tree at the cost of a remake, Dark Sniper agrees that this should be a classic that should remain untouched.

never thought it was a good idea to begin with. I liked FF7 but its because of the memories of when I first played the game. Who is to say that it will recreate those memories. Aeries dying won't have its impact as it did the first time we saw it. Changes can be made to the game that will ruin it, and with the way square is now I wouldn't even want them to touch this game.

also they will change the classic battle system because well its square they always feel they need to evolve. voice acting itself can ruin this game. Kitase said he will feel incline to remove stuff from the game.

Square also said it would take lots of time and money to remake the game, I also doubt it will reach the height the original one did.

Knowing today's square Enix, they would probably fudge it up

Some good reasoning here - but there are remakes that got it right. Look at REmake for the Gamecube - that was pretty intense.

I personally would like a Remake Of Final Fantasy 6 Instead. It's overlooked by many and has a far greater story than Final Fantasy 7.

Should they Remake final fantasy 7? I don't know, Final Fantasy 7 was a great game but i think Square Enix needs to focus on their titles now since the Franchise has been going down hill and remaking a game will hinder their progress.

i used to want this because of the prequal and the sequal (aka movie) but over time i got tired

hell even my favourite rpg legend of dragoon that i wanted to have a sequal/prequal or sequal too interest started to fade a bit

They're still pumping out Final Fantasies? I thought the whole point of a title like Final Fantasy was idk, that it was final.

As mentioned in the article, it will simply cost too much money, time, and effort to remake a game that is as intricate as FFVII.

I'd love to see it remade with new graphics, textures, and what-not, but it would have to be EXACTLY as the original was. Leave out one piece of dialogue, one dungeon, cutscene, and die-hard fans will be up in arms. Sure they'll be disappointed if SE doesn't remake it, but they'll get over it, just like they did when the trailer was first released when the PS3 launched.

Final Fantasy games have always been about the story. No matter what changes they make to the gameplay, or the world map, the reason I think Final Fantasy games have been so popular is because they allow players to immerse themselves in fantastical worlds with memorable characters that we can relate too, all the while delivering a (sometimes) heart wrenching story.

I didn't play this on the original Playstation, but I did buy the steam version after hearing about the amazing mods that are available. Square Enix definitely made the right decision to re-release this game on multiple platforms decades after release.

I am still wishing for the day Nintendo releases the original Pokemon Red and Blue on mobile with online features.

Edit: I am also looking forward to the day Square Enix ports FFX to mobile.
