BioShock DLC: Is it worth it?

Videogamer writes:

"If Big Daddys, Little Sisters and the phrase "Would you kindly" means nothing to you, then shame on you. But if they revive memories of one of the greatest first-person shooters ever made, then read on.

But the big question is, does all this new, free stuff justify you dusting off the game box and entering Rapture once more? To find out."

NO XBL dlc will EVER be worth it until they get rid of the BS DRM that prevents you from accessing it if you lose your broadband connection.

I want to be able to play content I paid for unconditionally! Otherwise I'm only LEASING it and should be charged accordingly.

/rant

bumnut6739d ago

i did not even no that was the case.

so if i download tracks for forza, i won't be able to access them unless i am online?

the only content i have downloaded is maps for cod 3 but they are multiplayer only so i would not have noticed

vgn246739d ago

You're a genius. Because this content has a DRM, it being free still isn't a value. You are classic!

Silver Bull3t6739d ago

I never said it wasn't a value numbnuts.

My point is that ANY content, be it purchased or free, should be playable offline regardless of hardware configuration. If I have dlc on my hdd, I should be able to disconnect it from my 360 and slap it on any other 360 and still have access to that content right off the bat.

Anego Montoya FTMFW6739d ago

"I should be able to disconnect it from my 360 and slap it on any other 360 and still have access to that content right off the bat"

YES. YES, you should.

vgn246739d ago (Edited 6739d ago )

this quote look familiar?

"NO XBL dlc will EVER be worth it.."

By using all caps for "ever" you kind of establish that you mean "ever". Now let the grown ups talk.

Anego Montoya FTMFW6739d ago (Edited 6739d ago )

when you start attacking peoples writing styles, you look beaten.

not attacking you, i`m just sayin........

Silver Bull3t6739d ago

Not worth my time or effort. Kinda like replying to your posts :P

I think anybody with a clue knows what I mean about it not being worth it,... loading up my hdd with all this groovy content that I will no longer be able to unconditionally use if my console bricks, why bother? Especially if it's content I paid for...

I know your having a hard time wraping your peanut brain around this... sorry I can't help.

buh-bye :)

misterssippi6739d ago (Edited 6739d ago )

the Bioshock DLC is free, so what is your beef Silver? I have never had to be online to access DLC. It stores to the games profile on your hard drive. Of course if it is a multiplayer map you can't access it unless you are on multiplayer for the most part. There is DRM because its copyrighted. Once you download it, thats the only way to keep other people from bootlegging stuff from one hard drive to another. Why would you need to put your hard drive on somebody elses 360. Do they not have a hard drive?

@ Bumnut
Forza DLC will still be availabe to you when you aren't online

No. The first poster isn't giving you any details. That is ONLY the case IF you've changed 360s. If you're playing on the 360 you downloaded the content to, then you don't need to be connected to the internet to access it.

Silver Bull3t6739d ago (Edited 6739d ago )

And that is any better how? My launch console that I took extremely good care of just rrod on me 2 weeks ago. So I'm still screwed that I can no longer access dlc w/out being connected, since the replacement console isn't the native dl console.

Anego Montoya FTMFW6739d ago

man.

(no sarcasm)

A hell of ALOT of people HAVE.

vgn246739d ago

I can't argue that point. I just like to inform people of details. The first poster spreads ignorance by not giving the full details. I prefer to give detailed explanations so people walk away knowing what and "why".

As for your point, ya, I got nothing cause you're right, lol. So many people have had to replace their systems, it ain't funny. I just wanted to make sure that poster knew why.

Rhezin6739d ago

meh they said new PLASMIDS! there is only one new plasmid. the rest are tonics wtf? Ill still be DLing it tho, but damn that sucks.

gamesblow6739d ago

I don't like how you can't access live arcade without being online... that blows major sack! PsN has the advantage here, I suppose... even tho none of their content is as good as double Dragon for xbox live. "shakes fist"

I really want Doble Dragon for the PSN, man. :-(

Anego Montoya FTMFW6739d ago

for the NES. i was just playing it the other day.

that game is tough.

v1c1ous6739d ago

you can play arcade games offline. it just won't chart your scores online since, of course, your not online.

i mean unless you got a new xbox and are going through that whole "only xbox it was purchased on can play connected" issue.

Next ‘BioShock’ Game Changes Leaders After Development Turmoil

The fourth game in the ‘BioShock’ series has been in development for more than a decade

Bioshock is one of my favourites franchises. I love all 3 games and have played each several times. I even have a room in my house that is loosely decorated around the theme of Bioshock (with a Lighthouse, coral models and postcards styled as though they are from both Rapture and Columbus).

And yet I am going to find it extremely difficult to get even remotely excited about any future episode in the series after all the problems this has had in its development cycle.

Leave the franchise alone. Remaster them again if you have to. Then put whatever talent you have to use on something brand new.

Furesis288d ago

Since ken levine isn't involved i'm not surprised what's going on. i'm more excited for his next game which looks like bioshock. Yet he still works under take2 and they are making bioshock 4 without him, strange situation.

toxic-inferno288d ago

Yes. Judas. Looks brilliant, but it's one of those games that seems to never have had a release date. Instead it's had release windows that keep getting pushed back.

Once it's ready, I'll be there for it though. Ken Levine is an excellent developer.

I get the feeling he dissolved Irrational Games simply so that 2k couldn't tell him what to do. It seems it will pay off, but I feel sorry for those who worked as part of Irrational before it was dissolved, who hadn't independently made a name for themselves.

ActualWhiteMan288d ago

He didn’t even want to make 2, that’s why they did it without him.

Rebel_Scum288d ago

tbh it wouldnt be a Bioshock game without development hell. They all had it.

Michiel1989287d ago

bioshock 2 was 2.5 years after 1, so much of a development hell it was......

-Foxtrot288d ago

"Remaster them again if you have to"

Well apparently they were doing a remake but that got cancelled

Relientk77288d ago

It sucks this game is in development hell because I love BioShock and would love a 4th game. I hope it turns out great, but I guess we'll see.

P_Bomb288d ago

Love Bioshock. It’s too bad what’s going on. At least we have Judas.

Yui_Suzumiya287d ago (Edited 287d ago )

It's been in development hell since 2014. This is nothing new. It saddens me because it's one of my favorite series. At this point, Judas may end up releasing first.

BABI-PANGPANG287d ago

Bioshock 4 (if it ever comes out) will probably still look and play like a Bioshock game, but without Kevin, it might miss that spark that made the originals so special. Honestly, Judas might end up feeling more like the real spiritual successor.

Remember there past attempts at game based show's i do heck i still remember that teenage resident evil trash fire.

anast658d ago

ha. I almost forgot about that.

Jin_Sakai661d ago

Might as well just cancel it.

just_looken659d ago

Unless its batwoman were they right it off

porkChop661d ago

It's 10 years too late for a BioShock film. The world of Rapture would have been perfect for a film. It's actually a good candidate for proper utilization of 3D, for increased depth rather than bullshit popping out of the screen. It could really show off the underwater city that way. But BioShock as a brand is so irrelevant these days that a film just doesn't make sense. Especially considering it would need a big budget and top notch effects to really take advantage of the IP.

gold_drake661d ago

i agree on the bigger budget. all the cgi they'd need for the background.

but i think it would work better as a show. a movie would be too short to establish the story

TheNamelessOne661d ago

Netflix greenlights anything, so that shows me very little faith in the project. Enough to just crap something out as they're, more and more, known to do.

badkolo660d ago

its where b movies go to live, its run by democrats , dont expect anything good from netflix

Knightofelemia661d ago (Edited 661d ago )

I'll laugh if it turns out to be better then the Borderlands movie
