Nintendo's third party problem will not be solved by getting more powerful hardware

TecStories: Despite Nintendo being the most succesful console this generation, having outsold both the xbox 360 and ps3 by tens of millions, It's a bit suprising to hear that apart from Nintendo and a few other developers like Ubisoft, Third Party developers have seen little success.

Spot on...

I think the reason is most 3rd party developer are having a difficult time keeping Nintendo wii fans happy is because there not aware that most casual gamers are becoming hardcore gamers one GEN after the Next. That said, causal gamers don't care much about the graphics in a game as-long as the play mechanics
and fun factor are appealing. On the other hand, a high percentage of hardcore gamers care about in game Graphic more than causal gamers;as well as good play mechanics/fun factor.
Perhaps, this is the reason why Nintendo is creating the Wii U.

Misterhbk5262d ago

Grandma's that bought the Wii will not buy the Wii U. They are satisfied playing Wii Sports for life.

Sure some of the casual audience will have become core gamers, by now but odds are they'll pick up a PS3 or 360 now, rather than wait for the Wii U. The reason i say this is because why would these people pick up a 'next gen' console to play current gen multiplats, which seem to be the 3rd party games Nintendo are pushing.

Skip_Bayless5262d ago

Yea I mean at the very least WiiU is gonna be $299.99. So people aren't gonna pick it up. The top reasons why people picked Wii was 1. Motion controls and 2. It was the cheapest. This time around it's no the cheapest and the control gimmick is sketchy. Also 3rd party developers are probably same "FML" right now because they now have to make 5 versions of a game at the very least. The WiiU and Vita will get the shitty ports whereas PS3/360/PC get the best versions of the game.

ChickeyCantor5261d ago (Edited 5261d ago )

Reggie already stated that both Wii and Wiiu will co-exist.

They are clearly not going for grandma with the Wiiu.

" The WiiU and Vita will get the shitty ports whereas PS3/360/PC get the best versions of the game."

Don't see why since some developers already stated that they are able to do more.

dark-hollow5262d ago

i cant help but to disagree.
For the most part, it is hardware releated.

I mean no third party game could run on wii without serious gimping that it is not worth it.
Imagine what gta iv or skyrim could look like on the wii?
Or else, what is the reason to not publish third party games to the most successful console this generation?

gamingdroid5262d ago

Exactly!

The second thing to consider is that developers will bend backwards and forwards to make their game work on any console as long as the market is there.

The Wii didn't have the hardcore market, but if Nintendo can generate enough interest in Wii-U, it could very well dominate the market having the first movers advantage.

3rd party will have no choice, but to support Nintendo's console.

jukins5262d ago

@dark-hallow and gamingdroid. 3rd party games will still fail. The main reason is online multiplayer. You really think Nintendo can set up a fully functioning hardcore type online system that would make a xbox live member or psn member jump ship? And what hardcore gamer is gonna want to hold a 10 inch tablet during lengthy gaming sessions. With the next xbox and playstation coming within the next couple years the wii-u wont have nearly enough time to establish that its more than the wii and take enough gamers from xbox or playstation to make it worthwhile for 3rd party publishers. the wii-u is a case of too little to late.

kingdavid5262d ago

People buy nintendo products because of mario and zelda not call of duty.

MasterCornholio5262d ago (Edited 5262d ago )

That is why 3rd party titles on the 3DS achieve poor sales when compared to first party titles. Just compare resident evil mercenaries to super Mario 3D land and you will see what I mean.

CDbiggen5262d ago

As long as they keep churning out great titles, I'll get one.

Urrakia345262d ago

I only look forward to Nintendo consoles for the expected: good Mario game, Zelda game, Metroid game if we're lucky, and the inevitable Super Smash Bros. game.

jacksheen00005262d ago

@Misterhbk

Hey, are you having some issues on Ng4 website? I asked because every time I hit the reply button, it takes me to a different web page that comes up blank.

anyhow....
I agree Nintendo is pushing the same 3rd party multiplats
game for the Wii U. Although, I do believe there will be a huge difference between 360/PS3 vs Wii U in the frame-rate/graphical department.

Now having said that, I think by creating the same game between the three systems(wiiU/PS3/360)would make it a lot simpler for gamers to make graphical comparison. This, of course, is something that most gamers love to do when a new gaming console comes out.

The controller will hold it back IMO

ChickeyCantor5261d ago

How?

How will the controller hold it back?

PygmelionHunter5261d ago

Like, you know... Remember when the DS failed hard because of its touchsc... Oh wait...

BitbyDeath5261d ago

It's design, 3rd partys will be wanting to make something that suits all consoles.

The iPad design will drive third parties away because it is too different to what the others offer.

ChickeyCantor5261d ago

When the TV is turned off you play it on the tablet. The tablet actually falls back to the normal setup just with touch ability.

Don't see a big problem for the developers honestly.

PygmelionHunter5261d ago

You overlooked 1 little detail friend, the Ipad's got no buttons.

Instigator5261d ago

The button layout is the same as PS3 and 360, and most likely the next gen consoles too. The only difference is the big, honking screen in the middle which doesn't have to be used for anything other than a map or inventory. It's great if they implement it smarter, but it's hardly holding them back.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer55d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot55d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno55d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay54d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno53d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK53d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
