PlayStation 3 system software update 4.0 leaves many fans disappointed and wanting more.

Former PlayStation US bigwig Shawn Layden has weighed in on the subject of video game preservation during a chat with Lan Parties, stating that more should be done by the big players in the industry to help preserve games.
Preservation is important. I’m hoping that more people in the industry, certainly the big players, begin to realize that there’s an obligation and responsibility. This isn’t throw-away stuff we’re making. This is stuff that should be around for a long time because future generations will enjoy it in the same way that we have and it’s criminal that we’re not doing more to protect it.
Sony in particular has come under attack for its poor attitude towards game preservation, having originally announced plans to shutter the PSP, PS Vita, and PS3 stores back in March 2021. This was met with widespread backlash, resulting in the format holder confirming the Vita and PS3 stores would remain open.
Whilst the compang does the bare minimum with backwards compatibility?
Does this mean we can have a lot more "Playstation Classics"? I don't feel like we're getting enough for what was promised, at least they added a few games this month.
Sony is in a position where they could do a lot, with their premium games. They have all the systems in place to do something cool on the psp, ps2 and psx front, but they don't really want to, it seems.

When something wonderful becomes something so mind-numbingly routine.
Forgot to mention the RNG Bullshit which Is World of Warcraft. People got their second legendaries on their alts while others whom spent more time playing didn't get crap.
A new trailer for BBC Worldwide Digital Entertainment and Supermassive Game’ upcoming Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock has just been released. The brand new trailer reveles that the game will in fact be a 2D platformer and players will be able to play as The Doctor and River Song.
Actually doesn't half look bad. Doctor Who is a tricky thing to convert into videogames due to the Doctor's pacifism, I never once thought of a 2D platformer.
I'd rather see a Torchwood (Dr Who spin-off) game, but I'd bet the sexual orientation of the characters would be mostly or completely ignored in a videogame.
I would've liked to see more, but unlike many of these impatient users, I understand this update was implemented more for the PS Vita.
Many are upset this is THE 4.0 update, but really it's just a number...
I stopped getting frustrated with PS3 updates when I told myself they were just a part of owning a PS3. Sure, it could have been optional given the Vita isn't out in North America yet, but it isn't, so no big deal. Impressive? No. Worth getting infuriated over? Nah.
With the PS Vita launch date less than a month away I'm really not surprised that this update focused on that.
And if you plan on getting one, this update really helped you.
But I can definitely understand why ps3 users who don't plan on getting the vita are disappointed with lack of new features.
IT'S...A...NUMBER
It's no big deal, we've had big updates without the ".0" mark
With Vita fastly approaching, I wasn't expecting anything with the 4.0 update, I knew it would be Vita related.
Isn't that the case with every firmware.
Obviously once the coming firmware is announced and you get 'rumours' claiming everything you could ever want in an update doesn't help anything. The PS OS is shoddy at best, it's a poor point of the console IMO, but as I just fire up a game and play, it's no big deal. Hopefully they have some forsight next time, Vita OS is already better, so promising signs.
