Five Lessons Fallout 4 Can Learn From Skyrim

Chances are Bethesda Game Studios' next project will be Fallout 4, its much-anticipated follow-up to 2008's smash-hit (and IGN Game of the Year) Fallout 3. Unlike the quasi-medieval fantasy Skyrim, Fallout is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. But there are many similarities between the two franchises.

i like fallout the way it is, i dont want them getting any ideas in implementing ideas from skyrim into the next fallout.

For some reason, I really wish that developers started creating new IP's rather than reaching the fourth and fifth (Fallout & Skyrim) editions. The same would go for Infinity Ward & Treyarch with Call of Duty.

Here is a hope to new IPs.

Well sure that's fine for you, but what about other Fallout Fans?

I'll take Fallout 4 on a next gen console. Thank you.

Too bad Skyrim didn't learn from New vegas.

NV had way better dialog system; in Skyrim there are only persuade&intimidate while there were lots of unique dialog options in NV depending on your each skill/perk/attrib. So.. better Role Playing Game is NV.

NV had better faction system also, couldd been a lot better tho :P

Bethesda should just hand in Fallout's fate to Obsidian. They'd do another amazing job with the new engine for sure.

And I love obsidian's writers :)

Faalout New Vegas has the best choices in dialog of any game with a Karma System. I love that nothing is black and white. It's not like inFAMOUS or Mass Effect where BLUE/Top responses are good and Red/Bottom responses are bad. The entire game is GREY the way it should be. Just cause you help someone doesn't mean you did the right thing. Serving one person kills another, stealing from a family might in the end save a town. It's really messed up. But again Skyrim isn't a fallout nuclear holocaust of a post apocalyptic game. It's not so bent on survival. When you are on the brink of death and the world is peril, the choices you make won't be black and white anymore. And New Vegas does that better than even Fallout 3, whose choice system was more black and white and the quests were more replications and tributes to fantasy/horror/scifi films and sstories of the forties. Both games are outstanding in content.

Good. I wouldn't want it learning anything from NV.

Just be heavily optimized for any and every platform its intended to be played on, anything else is more icing on the cake.....

i love fallout series to death but they really need a new engine for the game.

bwazy5277d ago

Yes, and now they have one.

I'd hardly call the Creation engine new though, it's basically the same old Gamebryo engine with a few tweaks.

they can't get a 14 year old game to run smoothly?

jjb1981150d ago

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
