Among the “true hardcore gaming” community, there seems to be a general hate of mainstream games like Call of Duty and Halo as well as casual and portable games such as Wii Fit and iPod/iPad apps.
But wait…have you ever stopped and thought, “mainstream = majority. The majority is…well…almost everyone. So why aren’t I part of it?” Why aren’t you part of the mainstream? What happened to you somewhere along your life that you’d play and enjoy some lesser known jrpg/wrpg over say, for example, Black Ops? Why do you like EBA over Guitar Hero/Rock Band? What made you prefer Harvest Moon or Rune Factory over Farmville?

TNS - NCSoft CEO admitted that AI is rapidly becoming a core part of game development, but he added that it cannot replace what makes games fun.
To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.
Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.
It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
"Deck13 Spotlight and Just2D are proud and excited to announce that DROVA – Forsaken Kin, the acclaimed grim and dank pixel RPG, set in a mystic Celtic world and celebrated by fans all over the world, is out now on iOS and Android!" - Deck13 Spotlight and Just2D.

FuRyu revealed on Friday its Exstetra fantasy role-playing game is getting an HD remaster that will launch this summer on Steam.
I don't agree. While games like Call of duty and guitar hero are just copy and paste jobs, There are many mainstream games that do not fall to this.
I liked Call of Duty. I'll still enjoy it in small doses, or on a first run through a campaign. It's really getting old, though. The game is copypasta at this point.
I think it also comes from the mainstream base claiming it's the best game/series of all time, like a bunch of bros who never played another FPS in their life aside from Halo. Who wants to be a part of such ignorance?
Halo isn't really "mainstream" because it is actually good. Infact, a masterpiece. They actually put effort into each new release and the games' quality shines every time. Halo 4 will probably be crap though, but any goodness in it comes from their ownership of the source code from Bungie's good work - not 343 Industry's efforts. They have the winning "feel" of Halo just like Activision have the winning "feel" of CoD:
CoD just keeps getting worse because they lost the staff that were capable of making decent maps and gameplay decisions. The core gameplay is still very good though because they (Activision) basically stole the code off the former IW employees who made it so good in the first place.
The next awesome FPS games are going to come from Bungie and Respawn. I doubt they will release anything till they have perfected it because they actually care about the game they are making, though they are involved with EA which will probably spell disaster (bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs and more bugs)
Valve are also slowly becoming evil, Portal 2 and L4D2 were just money grapping titles and I bet CS:GO is going to be crap because they wan't it to be playable on consoles (which means it'll suck on PC too) even though no console gamer even cares about CS. HL3 will launch with their next iteration of the Source engine which will probably be aimed at consoles too (next gen) even though PC hardware has stepped up a generation and is ready for Valve's pampering like they did the last 2 times that happened, also - console gamers are not interested (marketing will fix that though of course).
Call of Duty is mainstream but its for casuals AND the core.
The casuals won't have a good K/D ratio and will probably only play Team deathmatch. The core will play a variety of modes and will play CTF, Domination...etc
There's so much more to this than he thinks. And, honestly, IQ has nothing to do with it. Actually, I was a little angry at the sentence "Thus, the majority of people in the United States have an IQ of 100 or less." Even as much as I hate math- beyond attempting to divide by zero- I know that his statement of the average being at 100 rather negates his claim that most people are at or below that level, when the majority should be within a certain range both above AND below 100.
Outside of that, I think the "hardcore" crowd dislikes mainstream games largely because of how they negatively affect niche titles. I'm certain that Valkyria Chronicles and Lost Odyssey would have seen far better sales, if so many people weren't blind to anything that WASN'T a shooter. And the fact that these games (the mainstream) do so well means that more of them will be made; this, in turn, means less money and time will go towards the more marginalized titles.
