Gamespot Boycotts Get Nasty

Who says the average Joe is powerless against "the man"?

From the article: "And now, a cry that could end up hurting Gamespot even more than any of the above. A boycott is being organized, a very, VERY creative boycott."

gamespot might have a little issue on their hands. i have heard a pretty good amount of people saying they are canceling their accounts.

Bonsai12146748d ago

if people don't visit their website, advertisers won't spend money on it. its the best way people can damage GS at the moment.

Gamespot-equals-EGM6748d ago (Edited 6748d ago )

Wow, geek power. Um...its not going to work. How long is this 'boycott' going to last? 2-3 weeks?

IMO, Gamers aren't disciplined enough to boycott advertisers for longer than 2-3 weeks. There has never been a documented case of it happening before (unless someone can give me proof that I'm wrong) and I don't think it will happen here.

Nice try but this is America. Capitalism rules (and don't give me that freedom of speech crap because it doesn't apply when a person, like Jeff Gerstmann, is a member of a private corporation writing on a private website).

Gamespot-equals-EGM6748d ago (Edited 6747d ago )

Just casually glancing over Gamespot's website, these geeks are actually trying to boycott these corporations?

-Dell
-Best Buy
-Mountain Dew
-Toshiba

OMG, they have almost no chance at suceeding (maybe with the exception of Mountain Dew). Dell and Best Buy are going to see the normal increase in holiday sales regardless of whether this 'boycott' is implemented or not. Good luck geeks.

snoop_dizzle6748d ago (Edited 6748d ago )

yeah boycotting those other companies isn't going to do much considering they appeal not only to gamers but other people as well, but gamespot might be screwed. Even if they try to reinvent themselves.

The thing is now that gamespot has now been targeted the enemy, gamers might never trust them again. One thing gamers do well(fanboys mostly) is hold grudges.

Also this seems to be an extremely big event in the videogame industry.

PiTCHBLaCK6748d ago

Mountain dew is owned by pepsi co., so if any of these people/geeks drink pepsi or any pepsi product, then they'll be the one suffering.

People are taking this way out of porportion, all the advertisers on the GS webpage has many more sources, GS is just a tiny itty bitty fraction.

PS3Freak6747d ago

they are not trying to go after those big companies they are just trying to get them to stop advertising on gamespot.. they may succeed in that sense.

PiTCHBLaCK6747d ago

Do they really think the Advitisers care?, they couldn't care Less about some group that is disappointed at GS, as some people said, they should take all this energy and use it for a much better cause for all of us.

NEO_X6747d ago

I bet he wasn't even fired for that reason but with the way they are acting and not giving anyone a straight answer it won't be long before they are doomed.
Digging a big hole and then engraving the letters on your own tombstone sure seems dumb to me

If only people would get this fired up about the real issues affecting the world right now and get involved similarly, things would be alot better. But no... Only a subject involving entertainment sets people off...

To a reviewer that is not resonable with their scores.

Top 10 Games that Deserve a Second Chance

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "The video game industry is a pretty cutthroat place. More often than not the cycle of a game’s life is pretty set in stone – a title is announced, hyped ,released and hopefully it’s a hit. However sometimes things don’t go as planned and a game doesn’t hit home with gamers. Not that’s it a bad game per say but due to a myriad of issues or the general mood of the world at the time the game isn’t remembered so fondly as its contemporaries. So for this week’s Top 10 we’re listing off ten titles that you should probably give a second chance to because they really are decent titles and deserve more love than they ever got."

I enjoyed Kane and Lynch. I would love to see a PS All-Stars 2 or a non-Smash take on a PlayStation fighter. Maybe a Marvel v Campcom style but with larger levels.

Can Tekken X Street Fighter even get a first chance

FallenAngel19842922d ago

I’d rather Nintendo give Star Fox Assault a second chance and make another new game in that style. I like that game way better than Star Fox Adventures

wonderfulmonkeyman2922d ago

I heartily agree.
Maybe even a sequel with that new walker from Star Fox Zero.[yes I know it's originally from Star Fox 2, but most of us know it from Zero because we didn't get to play SF2.]

SSj4Yagami2921d ago

More people played SF2 than SFZ thanks to SNES Mini, and emulation. Also, Star Fox Adventure > Star Fox Assault.

wonderfulmonkeyman2922d ago

The Conduit.

Just, give us a reboot of that for Switch and make it bigger and better than the original, which had potential but never got off the ground due to being on the Wii.

Unpopular af opinion: give Castlevania 64 and Deadpool a second chance

wonderfulmonkeyman2921d ago

Castlevania 64 was an amazing game for its time and I'd LOVE to see it get a proper remake or reboot.

Freedom Fighters was one of my favorite OG Xbox game

UCForce3111d ago

I played Freedom Fighter on PC when I was a kid. Damn, the game was so freaking good.

strayanalog3111d ago

I can live with this IO. So how about that sequel, so I can forgive you already?

Kyosuke_Sanada3111d ago

WOW!!!!!! I would be so hyped if Freedom Fighters returned but it's very disappointing that Kane and Lynch is still on ice because the story has so much potential. Both games also features Jesper Kyd's best work.
