Is That You Tommy?

"These were the famous words uttered in probably the most exciting 1:26 minutes of 2011. Who knew something so short could make the masses delve deeper into it, picking out every little detail they could find. I am, of course, talking about the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, which blew our minds. Not that it was a graphically mesmerizing trailer, the visuals are a mere upgrade to the darker toned GTA 4, with the color palette being a little more lively and colorful this time around. But I am not here to talk about what everyone else has talked about already, I am here to explore the chances of Mr. Vercetti making a comeback."

“Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather”
_____________________________ _______________________

Ok, so Tommy moved to Los Santos because it's warm and sunny, even though Vice City was also warm and sunny. Yeah, makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
Plus that honestly didn't sound anything like Ray Liotta, who I should mention will most likely never do a voice-over in a Rockstar game ever again.
Ned Luke, is more likely to be playing the guy in the trailer, just look at the similarities between the two in some of his pictures

Wasn't there a mission on San Andreas or IV where you take a plane to somewhere to fight the Italian mob? I remember it being snowy.

And who's to say he lived in Vice City the entire time?

LarVanian5348d ago

Yeah, you're talking about the mission in which CJ flew to Liberty City to kill a Forelli gang member. What exactly does it have to do here?
And who's to say that Tommy is still even alive, he could have been blown up or died from a drug overdose off camera for all we know. In fact Tommy probably doesn't even exist in this GTA universe. I have always seen the GTA3 universe as a completely separate reality from the GTA4/5 reality, especially because not one single character from the GTA3 era was mentioned by anyone in GTAIV.

Lazlow has been in pretty much every GTA

STK0265348d ago

While I don't think it'll be Tommy, I sure wish it were, as VC is still my favorite GTA game.

AbNoRmaL__aGenT5348d ago

Maybe, just maybe it's a new character. I know that sounds rediculous since they have never had the main character appear twice as far as I know. Another idea that might be a bit unrealistic but possible (seriously this time) would be to have two playable characters with seperate stories that will tie together (if it is Tommy and CJ). As for those who think Tommy is out of the question, he obviously has aged a lot along with his voice. That allows the opportunity to recast Ray who Ive heard doesnt want to voice anymore with it still making sense. I cant even decide if I want to see a knew character, or an old. Either way I am not going to doubt rockstar and cant wait to see some more info on this game (not speculation).

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood175d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar174d ago (Edited 174d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher174d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake174d ago

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake183d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09182d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle182d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto182d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle182d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart182d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher182d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle182d ago (Edited 182d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
