but most of the time when a console outsells another, its usually by about 30,000 so that means that if the ps3 gets america, the ps3 will outsell the 360 by over 300,000 a month and im not even including the bumbs it will get from mgs4,socom,killzone2,LITTLEBIG PLANET. its common fuc*in sense. but again, good lookin out HYDROLEX. these guys are retards.. The only place sony is losing in is The USA and there gaining closer and closer to the 360 every week now in the US.. Also the last couple of multi plat games have been exactly the same on the both systems or even a slight better on the ps3.. Only EA does crap ports..

The Christmas season is just begining NPD numbers aren't in for the month of NOV and we haven't even got to DEC. It's way too early to be declaring a rise of the PS3 we not even sure what they really sold. Its one thing if the PS3 is selling 3x the 360 this holiday season its another if they are out sold again.

Achievements on the PS3 aren't going to suddenly convince EA to invest more money on the platform. They just suffered their biggest losses last quarter because their titles simply aren't very good, and are often times pretty bad. With game prices as high as they are, consumers usually won't settle for crap, and EA is either going to pull out and make fewer titles, or finally learn that having a 50% employee turnover rate isn't helping their titles and they need to rectify that.

Multiplatform titles are Finally getting done well on the PS3, and a few even perform better on Sony's system (Call of Duty 4, Burnout Paradise, and some older ones like Fight Night and Oblivion). Sony's got the right price point and a steady stream of great titles coming out every month; they've been working hard to support third-party devs moreso than any point in Playstation's history, and it's definitely paying off.

f*ck everyone else's "opinions", buy it, play games on it, and dont moan about the other companies offerings....

Last generation I had all of the consoles, this generation I'll have all consoles to maybe.

The way I see it, the PS3 hasnt struck back just yet, but its on the right way to doing so. Before, the majority of the gaming community were looking down on the PS3 and Sony's way of handling the product, but during this year the atmosphere has changed attitude, and people are observing Sony again. The PS3 has become a desirable choice again, which is a HUGE change looking back at the start of the year.

No way PS3 isn't making a huge comeback with the 2008 lineup of games it has. I have both systems and to this point 360 has better games, but with R&C and Uncharted turning the corner and 2008's games it's a great time to have a PS3.

Last time I checked, Sony still makes money hand over fist while idiots sit around arguing about who is winning a made up, stupid console war. None of the three systems will legitimately "fail." It will only fail to people who have no legitimate stake in it. Play good games. Who cares who makes them or for what sytem they are on. This whole thing is stupid and has gone on with too many consoles for too long.

If you like GT, pick up Forza 2 if you don't get a Holiday Bundle that includes it. Project Gotham is also an outstanding franchise that you should enjoy.

Gears is fantastic and so is Halo3. I've been playing Halo3 since it launched and am still having a blast. If you are into fps and haven't picked up Call of Duty, they are all great games. Orange Box is deffinately a hit also.

Saints Row can be had cheap and is a nice stop gap while we all wait for GTA. :)

Unfotunately, it's fighting the 1 year head start momentum of the 360. I expect the PS3 will only start matching the 360 here in the states sales wise when KZ2 and MGS hits.

The mass public don't know about in-game messaging. They don't know what "XMB overlay" means and they certainly dont have a clue about the main differences between xbl and psn - except for the fact that psn is FREE.

I’m always curious why we gamers give a darn about the sales of a system? Or a game? Is it a lesser person’s need to belong to a winning team? Or to justify your purchase? I own all 3 home consoles, love them for what they all offer me as a gamer… and that’s about it. If Colgate is my favorite brand of toothpaste, I don’t check the AP releases like a zealot to discover if Colgate Whitening Formula is the biggest and best seller on the market. I brush my teeth, smile with a glow, and that’s about it. Job done.

However, if you live or die according to the numbers, all console sales are a sad chase after the DS brass ring. Gee, I wonder if it being affordable or fun has any connection to it’s success?

Well I see a few people have got their hand bags out again arguing over which console is best. The way I see it all the consoles have great things to offer and all have their strengths. As for all these people who moan about xbox live charging £39.99 a year. Well so what its peanuts to me so I pay it as you do get a quality service. Yes would be nice to have it free but really 39.99 a year wow that sure breaks the bank haha. Anyway I do believe the PS3 is getting better and better and think we will see some fantastic games in 08 e.g little big planet, MGS etc. I will wait for these to come out and then will pick up a PS3 so I will have the best of all the consoles as I have a 360 and wii already.

PS3 realy isnt my kind of gaming console that Im looking for right now. Because of the fact that I will not play many games on it when I buy it at the moment. Also simple things can be very important in a console such as private chat in single player because of the two following examples:

-When chatting with friends online while playing a single player game you can get help through parts that you cant get past, with the help of a friend. While still having the enjoyment of chatting with a friend at the same time.

-It actually effect the sells of some games. Dont believe me? When playing a game and chatting to a friend at the same time you begin to talk about how awesome it is. Even though the game may have gotten a low rating you may like the game. And your friend hearing your excitement in the game may give them the urge to go get it for themselfs also. I had this happen to many of my friends when private chatting and playing a game.

But the main reason I want the PS3 now as an Xbox 360 owner is because of two more little reasons.

-The look of the PS3 is very provoking, I just love the sleek new look to it. I just wanted it to gaze at it in my room with all its power setting inside waiting to come out.

-Although I wouldnt play games for it often because being an online gamer. Theres just not enough satification in the online service as much as Live besides the fact that it is free. I would like to own one to be able to play BR movies and have a gaming console on the side. I probably wouldnt use it much until the release of HOME so that there would be way more interactivity with the online community.

360 has sold out of most stores and most of its games in europe, and they haven't even begun to ramp up production over there in order to meet the increasing demand....

in preparation for perfect dark 2, a game that someone like rare will only release when its perfect....

in 2008, the 360 gets more system sellers than it had in 2007....

if you believed for a second that ninja gaiden 2, project offset, warhound, call of duty 5, halo wars, splinter cell 5 or saints row 2 weren't going to be 360 system sellers........you got another coming...

some of these games, especially the new codemasters action FPS game will sell like mad in the UK, france, germany, and of course in finland.....

I got to point out that Sony is a more reliable company than MS.
Even if the 360 plays in 1080p most of their games aren't 1080p so far I've only seen one game that plays in 1080p on the 360 and that's Project Offset and it doesn't come out until next year.
If you want 1080p now buy yourself a PS3 and save yourself the time.
If you ask me I think MS is struggling from the very beginning so far 3 models have been made of the same 360 design.

when the Saturn lauched with all the hype then when the PS#1 launched (one of the greatest systems ever) with no hype, the PS#1 blew away the Saturn graphically. And all the claims that Sega made that their system is more powerful. It took a year for people to realise that Sega was just hyping sh!t up. And we all know what happened to the Saturn. PS#3 I'm looking at you.

Lost Planet - mediocre shooter, now coming to the PS3 (um, hooray?)

Crackdown - i beat it. fun, but not a system seller. not much to really do and i completed the main game in less than 10 hours. kind of inexcusable for a sandbox game if you ask me. i've sunk at least 30 hours into GTAIV and *STILL haven't beaten it yet. also, a shooter.

Dead Rising - mediocre action game, but fun for an early "next gen" game. it's a transition game. something to play while you wait for the "real" titles to come out. no one would buy this game now, given the selection of titles out there now(unless it's retailing for $20 or less). without major changes to the gameplay, this series doesn't really have staying power like the title below.

Gears of War - first AAA title on the 360; released a year after launch. once again, a shooter.

Halo 3 - released nearly *TWO years after launch, second AAA title for the 360. you guessed it, a shooter. visuals aren't as impressive as they *SHOULD have been considering it's release date and development time, and the game felt like more of the same, but in HD. not a disappointment to Halo fans, but it's not going to convince anyone why the 360 is the "shiznit."

Forza 2 - Racing game. no complaints here, really. graphics are quality, i suppose. i'm not a racing fan, so i don't have a lot of opinions here.

PGR - also a racer. if you own a 360 and are a racing fan, Forza and PGR are the way to go.

Ace Combat 6 - Ace Combat games are good. not too sure about this one, as i've yet to play it, but i've seen my roommate play a little of the demo. looks good enough.

Bioshock - another AAA title. not very long, but is immersive. also a shooter. great visuals and atmosphere. i still consider it the best exclusive on the 360 right now.

Mass Effect - another AAA title, though i'm *REALLY disappointed with it. the framerate is sporadic, texture pop-in is at ridiculous levels, and the load times are distracting. oddly enough, it's a shooter also. a shooter with RPG wrappings. the story is great, and the world is definitely well thought out and fascinating, but i couldn't help but notice that you do more *TALKING and running around corridors than, i dunno, *PLAYING the game. and that hurts me to say, as Bioware is one of the best development houses out there, and generally everything they touch turns to gold, but i think there's a problem, when the first time i played the game, it was for 20 minutes, and 15 of those 20 were spent watching cutscenes, and 5 were spent actually roaming around and shooting stuff.

and well, those are the only 360 games people seem to babble on about endlessly when touting it's superiority over other consoles. 10 high profile games, 6 of which are shooters, 2 racers, and one action game. god forbid if you aren't a big shooter fan, right? i'm not saying the shooters are *BAD, far from it (most of them i really like, especially Bioshock), but if you aren't a fan of them, there really isn't much else to choose from for the 360 barring more "transition games," or experiments like Viva Pinata. the plus side is that a lot of the games are new IPs (Bioshock, Mass Effect), so i expect good things from later editions.

now onto the Playstation 3's year one offerings:

Resistance: Fall of Man - i consider this game to be AAA, considering it's launch title status, excellent single player and online gaming, and engaging story and characters. a lot of folks disagree, but outside of the visuals being a bit dated, the game has all the addicting, fun trappings of a AAA game. 40 players simultaneous online, damn near lag free isn't anything to scoff at. shooter.

Motorstorm - another game that could be considered AAA. it does for offroad racing what Burnout did for, hell, i don't know, crashing cars. Motorstorm is beautiful (in that early next gen sort of way), the races are fun. online is solid, crashes are spectacular, and there's quite a bit of downloadable content already available for people that have gotten the game and played it to death. racer.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - the first true action game for the PS3. not really AAA, as it's the third release of the game, but i think it's the definitive take on the first NG game, as it contains everything that the original and Black contained, and has some nice downloadable content as well. the game also runs at 60fps/1080p, which isn't too shabby. the game was great on the X Box, so there's no reason why it wouldn't be great on the PS3.

Warhawk - hands down one of the best online games out there right now. 32 player dogfights have to be experienced to be appreciated, and foot combat is just as fun. the motion controls for the ship are done excellently, and even better, you can *TURN IT OFF if it's not your thing (i play with it off, as i prefer analog sticks). as far as an online only game, this is a AAA outting, but i wished there was a single player mode, if only to hone my skills. i don't like online gaming, but this game convinced me otherwise. that's no small feat. online shooter

Heavenly Sword - the first real AAA action game on the PS3, it has elements of God of War, but mixes it up with stance-based fighting that is more strategy than it seems on the outset, and absolutely stellar facial and motion capture animation. this game elevates cinematic presentation to new heights, and is only eclipsed by Uncharted, which i'll get into later. the only real downside to Heavenly Sword is that it's really short (i beat it in about 8 hours, but spent an additional 5 or so unlocking everything). of course i'd rather have a short, sweet game, than a long, crappy one. of course a long, sweet game is ideal, but hey, this is the first in the series.

Folklore - people may not appreciate Folklore at first, mainly because it was made by the folks that did the abysmal Genji 2 for the PS3 launch, but their second Playstation 3 title is infinitely more engaging, addicting, and polished. the art and music design in this game is superb, with an excellent mix of Japanese and European themes, with the European theme being the most prominant (the game *IS set in Ireland, after all). the gameplay is addicting, as capturing the various Folk souls has that "gotta catch'em all" feel that i'm sure is why people are addicted to Pokemon. the ending is a bit weird and the only downside to an otherwise quality game. action/rpg.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - the second Playstation 3 game from the folks that brought us Resistance: Fall of Man, and, i believe, the 5th game in the Ratchet and Clank series. i wasn't a big R&C fan on the PS2 (i only played the first one, but i never beat it. it was cool though), but with this versions "close to a CG cartoon" graphics, great sense of humor, and frenetic gameplay, i'm a fan now. it's one of my favorite PS3 games at the moment, and i've already invested quite a few hours of gameplay, and have been to, at least, 10 different planets. the game is also a great mix between platforming and shooting, and there's a lot of variety, so you're almost always doing something new in each world, and between each world. the space flight segments are also retina searingly beautiful; if only our actual universe looked as fantastic. action/adventure/shooter hybrid.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - this is hands down the first undeniable AAA title released, and my personal pick for the game of the year. it's a combination platformer, brawler, shooter, and adventure game, all rolled into an expertly presented package. if Heavenly Sword elevates a cinematic presentation to new heights, then Uncharted sends it soaring into the atmosphere, probably bumping into Ratchet and Clank's space ship as it zooms past. character animations, voice-acting, the writing and direction, are nothing short of an accomplishment worthy of many, many awards. it's like watching a good summer popcorn flick, but you are actually *PLAYING it.

the narrative is woven into the story so well, that it never feels like a disparate element to the whole, or takes you out of the game. the cutscenes are all in game, but also very short, as a lot of the dialogue and narrative happens *WHILE you are traversing the landscape, getting into gunfights and brawls. speaking of gunfights and brawls, the combat system in this game takes the best elements of games like Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War, and marries them (though the cover-system mechanic has the same Gears of War issue, in which sometimes you roll, when you mean to stick to a wall, and stick to a wall when you mean to roll) beautifully. the gunfights are also incredibly intense, with wave after wave of pirate aiming to bring you down. the hand to hand combat is really last resort only, but is context sensitive, and very satisfying.

i highly enjoy running up to a guy and drop kicking him in the head, or punching him a few times in the face and stomach, before dropping him with a balls-crushing kick to the nuts. pulling a Solid Snake and sneaking up behind him and snapping his neck is also fun, but the meat of the gameplay is in the shooting. and there is plenty of it. while the game gets compared to Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia a lot, those comparisons are pretty unfounded, and after playing a significant chunk of Uncharted, i can say that it is *NOTHING like Tomb Raider. *AT ALL. the pace is infinitely faster, and the exploring and platforming elements make up only a small percentage of the gameplay. this is an action title through and through.

i think it goes without saying that the graphics are second to none, and quite possibly the most consistently gorgeous game out there (you know what i mean; some games excel at one element, say, character models, but the rest of the world doesn't quite match, ie, Mass Effect, or Resistance), and everything has a very vibrant, lush feel to it that makes you want to reach out and touch the plants, or take a swim in the best looking water i've ever seen in a video game (and i've *PLAYED Bioshock!). hands down, this game is *THE reason to own a Playstation 3 right now. hell, it's a reason to pick up an HDTV as well, as SDTVs don't do this game justice at all. there is a bit of texture pop in sometimes, but the fact that the game never, and i mean this, *NEVER stops to load in a level or cutscene (after the title screen, and you load in whatever save you have, or a new game, it's non-stop), helps the cinematic and believability of the world immensely. this game goes above and beyond anything you expect from a system's first year. if you buy a PS3, buy this game along with it. it *WON'T disappoint you.

and there you have it. the currently released heavy hitters on the Playstation 3. games like Haze (developed by Free Radical, who made the excellent Timesplitters games, and are comprised of ex-Rare employees who worked on the classic Goldeneye title for the N64), and Unreal Tournament 3 also hit before the years end, not to mention Gran Turismo Prologue (not to be confused with the free demo GT HD), so there's even more goodness.

as for the rest of the great games out and released, they are all multi-platform (Assassin's Creed, COD4, Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, etc), so there's no reason why 360 and PS3 owners should fight and b*tch at each other, but i just don't see why people praise the 360 for having such a fantastic lineup, and completely *DISMISS the amazingly quality *FIRST GENERATION titles the PS3 has. i understand if certain titles aren't your thing (i don't like Halo, but i understand it's place as a AAA 360 title), but to just disregard a PS3 title because it's an exclusive, or maybe too short, is silly.

it all boils down to personal preference. both consoles have some great exclusives on offer, and most recent multi-platform games have been damn near identical on both systems, so the only thing that should sway your buying decision is which console has the games and features that appeal to you, and you alone. who cares what some overpaid schlub from ign or gamespot, or *WHEREVER says about console x or game y, but it's whether or not *YOU want said product and services. after all, it's *YOUR hard earned money. not theirs.

Ive seen many dumb people and None more dumb than sony fanboys. They think their best game is uncharted and heavenlyswap but the 360 can handle those games like nothing. Probably would only use like 10% power of the 360 as oppose to using like 95% of the ps3. LOL. Now who got owned? that's right@!

I love it how Microsoft got their fanboys thinking their gonna beat sony. Really at this point the only company can beat current king of consoles(sony) is the old king. Nintendo was the old king and their ones sony need to worry about.

It does not need to, it took Sony 7 years to sell the PS2 to the numbers it did. The PS3 is just a year old, not even that in PAL territories.

The PS3 has done well considering the delays, price and lack of games for half the year and too many the second half.

The PS3 needs to sell consoles, not be number 1. The Sony big guns are out next year and I do think then the lay of the land will be different. I don't think it will be number 1, but definitely not as far behind.

I for one don't mind paying for LIVE. Yes sure i wish it was free like PSN but it's worth paying 50.00 a year. For one you get to demo all the arcade games before you decide to purchase them.Unlike the PSN where you have to buy them and if you don't like them oh well your up s**t creek.Like i was with Calling all Cars. If $50.00 bucks is to much you can always pay it monthly.I think it's around 7.00 a month. A lot of people spend more then that on fast food in one day.

I was gunna argue yet again, but its pointless. You already see that the PS3 is outselling the Xbox with a higher price and less games.

Next year the price will be the same, and MGS4, FF, and GT5 are better than anything the Xbox has had or will have.

LBP and Killzone2 have more potential than Mass Effect and BioShock had a few months ago. They are bigger projects, and touch a larger demographic than those games. (Well atleast LBP does.)

Socom has one of the most loyal fan bases ever.

God of War is arguably the best game ever, and really deserves GOTY IMO.

Both BioWare and 2K have games in development for the PS3(rumored, but most likely true)

Theres no reason why current Xbox owners won't buy a PS3 as well...other than us nerds on this site most people will probably want both to play all the games, and the PS3 will be more affordable

Get over it. 6 million consoles is nothing to overcome in a year. Especially if the Xbox360 goes into hibernation again while the PS3 is rolling out AAA titles better than anything you have all year long.

Well unless they can make games in two months to respond it wont matter. And sure u can say that they can drop the price, but price isnt the issue. The Xbox not being a playstation is the issue. If Sony and Microsoft switched consoles and swapped names I think Sony would have had nearly 30 million by now, however thats not the case.

Sony is selling more once again and by will pass the 360 by next September.

Mathematically speaking, that would mean if Xbox was to sell roughly the same, Sony would need to sell 8 million or so before August.

I think the last point about a global market is very valid. PS3 is doing much better in Japan and Europe now. Just because it is lagging in US behind 360 doesn't mean it's over for SONY. I think it is really picking up steam and it is too early to tell (SO many possible PS2 owners who could upgrade to PS3). It's not like SONY is going to close their doors and stop making their console no matter how bad it may look now.

I honestly don't understand all this fanboyism. I own all three last gen and next gen systems. I love PS3 (with HD TV) and I don't regret my purchase. For me, R&C was worth it. I think it's an awesome game and I really like PS3.

A real question will emerge if SONY can't pick up even more steam NEXT year. But, you need to wait till then. The next tide of games (MGS4, LBP, GT, FF...) will really show whether PS3 can shoot up or just fall further behind. If PS3 can't push units with those games by next Christmas with their lowered price next year, things will be looking much worse.

the xbox and the PS3 are good consoles, you have pros and cons in each of them, only one thing cross my mind now...

Blue ray is wining the war thanks to the Ps3 so in the end, if blueray wins the format war all of the companies need to adopt blueray disc (including MS) so if MS release a new console in the future they have to adopt the format so they are going to pay sony for it.

so why all the people that already have an xbox don't want to support the HD DVD (buying the one that can be adapt to the 360 if you do that i think Sony is going to lose at the end, the console war and the format war so maybe you are not going to see a PS4.... think about it ;)

It is inevitable that as the PS3 lowers its price, it will sell more. The same goes with the other two, but let's face it, the price issue has affected the PS3 the most. Only hardcore gamers that have the cash and people that wanted the cheapest BluRay player on the market have previously gotten one.

Now that it's become more affordable, of course sales are skyrocketing. You think the next gen systems are selling well now? Wait until the prices drop even further. The question is, when all is said and done, what system will more people want? That remains to be seen. One thing is for sure. No one system will be dominant like last gen. Well, maybe the Wii, but it's not really next gen.

Neither one of them said anything about PS3 running the show. Just talking about bettering itself. Which I agree that they will.
But in the end all I heard was 2 guys speculating and constantly comparing the PS3 with the 360. Like almost saying this is what the PS3 needs to do and be. Which makes perfect sense.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
