Bethesda: developing for PC is "a headache"

Developing games for PC is "a headache", Bethesda has said. There are so many hardware configurations and drivers to consider that even the most robust game can come undone at the performance-seams.

This headache brought them to the gaming industry. Guess they wont be stupid enough to cut their heads off.

And making games for 6 year old hardware seems fine i guess. 256MB - 512MB of memory constraint cant be too good to work with. Shows the game is filled with low res textures all compromised to work within the limitations of ancient hardware.

Developing a game is not a walk in the park.
Thats what most n4g users forget. Developers are not lifeless machines that produce games 24/7.

Especially a game in the same scale as skyrim.

Ares84HU5288d ago

Obviously it isn't an easy thing to do but when it is your job and you choose to do it, why complain about it??

No one is expecting them to work 24/7.

kevnb5288d ago

they seem to do better on pc than consoles thats the funny thing. I can understand the frustration of a pr guy, amd screwed over rage with poor opengl drivers...

Ares84HU5288d ago

Yeah, they started on PC and it got them going.

I hate it when people complain about their job. At least they have a job and they make money. Stop bitching!

Rageanitus5288d ago (Edited 5288d ago )

Then I guess developing on the xbox is also an headache since the architecture is somewhat similar.

Nowadays it is much easier since alot of the parts are STANDARD with unified drivers.

kevnb5288d ago

well you dont have to worry about amd screwing up opengl drivers. At the same time Bethesda cant seem to develop properly on consoles...

Focus5288d ago

Problem with developing for pc. . .ranging specs.Thats it.

JsonHenry5288d ago

Oh no! Doing our job is too much like... WORK!!! THE HORROR!!!

Rage_S905288d ago (Edited 5288d ago )

One of the reasons why consoles have taken over.

Edit: And the wii is the most successful console, case closed.

reynod5288d ago (Edited 5288d ago )

What is a console? havent you heard they are a dieing breed. Most of them died years back, only one we had this gen is the Wii(which too seems to be dieing).

As of the PS3 and Xbox 360 they are just locked down low end PCs :) controlled exclusively by their masters Sony and MS.

Havent you heard next Xbox might actually come loaded with Windows. Sony already tried it with PS3 with Linux.

BrianC62345288d ago

The PC is too hard to develop for and PC games are too easy to pirate. Two big reasons to not make PC games. Who cares if high end PC's are more powerful than the consoles. Hardly anyone has computers that powerful.

Letros5288d ago

Games must be selling pretty good on PC to go through all the hassle.

dark-hollow5288d ago

Seriously n4g users, stop posting crap about things you don't know jack about.
Where do i even start?

caboose325288d ago

Yea, a lot of people on here like to just say things that they believe are absolute fact, when really they have no idea what they are talking about.

BrianC62345288d ago

I know plenty about PC gaming. I know enough that I don't like dealing with all the crap that goes just with installing games. Or constant upgrading of my computer. No thanks on wasting my time and money on all that stuff.

Letros5288d ago

Umm, a lot of console games have "mandatory installs", do you avoid those?

Somebody5288d ago

"Who cares if high end PC's are more powerful than the consoles. "

Well, Sony and Microsoft's research teams who are currently trying to design the next gen consoles do care. Where else are they going the proper, cost effective parts for your PS4 and X Box 3? In this kind of economy it would be foolish (budget wise) to try and design your own parts from scratch when there are tons of readily available.

All the money PC gamers "waste" on high end parts would end up funding new technology that Sony and Microsoft will use in their future consoles.

Care for some Dx11/12, GPUs/CPUs with 10 to 20 nm die size (cooler and more energy efficient)and large capacity SSDs as standard for your next console, anyone? Go ahead, tell the PC gamers to stop supporting these technology.

Orpheus5287d ago

Brian you really know a plenty about pc gaming ... more than me ... more than even the developers because even the developers do not know enough of pc gaming to not like dealing with PCs.
